My god, the level of detail and respect from the Devs for the morgue in this video was…perfect. Whoever said “hey let’s actually put Isaac in that room when Mathias transforms deserves a raise.…take it from a guy who has completed this game 20+ times since original release.
I mean, sure its new. But it does take away from the original idea that you never take away control from the player whilst, and ill butcher this saying from the director of DS 1 "Everything happens in real time rather than a cutscene". Might work out well for a remake but hopefully not an overdone thing
Every encounter from behind a glass barrier feels like a “just keep walking Charlie😨” moment, it’s terrifying but you can’t do anything about it and adds to whole environment
Some things I like about is that the necros’ limbs just deteriorate with each shot rather than just instantly falling off like in the original and how instead of just walking into the morgue as a piece of gameplay, the scene with the captain becomes its own cutscene with the introduction to infector and the captain’s transformation looking more uncanny instead of a model swap
Glad to see some updates and additions to some of the story scenes in the game. I'm hoping we see other updates to enemy placements and such though. I know it's my fault but I beat the original game like 12 times years ago and I still remember most enemy spawns and jump scares.
The intensity director is meant to solve that problem. It changes enemy spawns and adjusts them in real time. The devs kept some major memorable spawns the same, but they also made it so they can randomly jump you from different directions in each play through.
Same here. The jumpscare positioning got predictable, such as elevators, corners, space walk portions. It became a doom game when you upgrade one weapon enough to just mow everything down
It has been changed..now they will happen many times, in different places so that it will never be the same thing. They kept the iconic scenes but changes how enemies behave, spawn, etc.
Same thing happened to me with dead space 2, I'm less familiar with 1 but it seems relatively different. Just getting the captain's rig alone seems different but better
Now that Callisto Protocol is turning out to be underwhelming, this and the System Shock remake need to prevail. Please. Edit: AND PREVAILED IT HAS, LETS GOOOOOO
I'm so glad I didn't preorder that. I loved DS 1 but I never found it scary. Just super, super fun to play and I expected the same with TCP. But I had my misgivings too which proved to be well founded. The gameplay here though, looks great. Classic strategic dismemberment and better still, it's the dismemberment system from DS 2 which was the best in the series. I never get tired of impaling Necromorphs with their own appendages.
Isaac looks like he's moving faster than he did in the original. I remember the way he walked was slower and he was always moving his head around as if being cautious.
This is looking great but I do have a nitpick. Isaac's walking speed feels too fast imo. Something I liked from the first game is that Isaac felt kinda heavy and that helped with immersion. Also, his walking animation made him look slightly (but understandably) paranoid. Now it feels like he is gliding around the map without a care in the world.
Well this could be a factor because I know they made the necromorphs faster in the remake, so it’s probably like that to balance out combat on different difficulties of the game.
@@-wack Ah, so they do move faster. I was surprised at 8:32 because Isaac turned around, opened the door and the necromorph was right behind him ready to attack.
This is visually stunning! I’m definitely noticing several improvements in imagery, lighting, and textures. It feels more organic than the original. I’m also really happy to hear more of the familiar audio combined with new sounds in the environments. This is a remake that REALLY meets expectations! Well done 👍
The captains transformation is so seamless and horrifying. It's amazing that the devs pulled that off...they just missed the needle sticking out of his eye
@@GustEdgeOfficial Not in the original. If you get up close to the glass of the room the captain's body is kept in just before the infector shows up. You can see the needle sticking out of his left eye. It's shown in the launch trailer too and you can find pictures on the game's wiki. I think it was there to keep continuity with the video log you find of the captain being killed....and perhaps the Dead Space animated film too.
@@tundrakrusher The RE2 remake had plot holes and the scenarios contradict each other, like Annette's death and repeating bosses between the two scenarios. The original did it better. FF7 "remake" was just some poorly written fanfic from writers who like the smell of their own farts.
They really werent lying when they said they updated isaac to communicate what's going on better. Even without sound you could tell something is behind you with that animation
They did a great job but tbh they didn’t change much, they just upgraded the graphics (which modders did almost just as well) and animations and added some combat changes. The levels seem almost identical, the encounters too and I’m not sure if there are any new weapons or if the current ones have been modified. I was expecting to see some more change other than graphics tbh. Still looks really good tho.
@@paperplanez104 Yep. I won't be buying this, because I already played it... It's a horror game, and horror is a feeling that is gone once you know all the ropes, nooks and crannies. Even if it looks visually amazing.
probably the only time im gonna let those infectors turn corpses into necromorphs cuz that transformation scene was epic, you can even see the spine form into those spikes one by one
Animation looks top notch. I love the change with finding the Captain in the med bay. Movement looks very decent for both Isaac and the Necromorphs. And the sounds added to the Lurkers is so disturbing, I love it. This is how you do a remake.
I really, really like how they changed the Captain's transformation sequence around. I wonder if they'll be doing the same with some of the other events that originally occurred behind glass windows or in separate rooms. Because let's be honest here, the amount of times that happened in the first game got a little silly.
I hope they add more smaller animations that add some character but don't entirely affect gameplay, like near the end of DS1 where he puts his hand on his face after learning you know what, or in DS2 where he briefly shields his face from the window when the baby explodes.
People in 2021; I'm feeling Battlefield 2042 will succeed. A new chance for Battlefield. Don't get your hopes up too high. It's EA after all. Oh what am I talking about - y'all probably already pre-ordered the ultra deluxe day one special ripoff edition for 199.99
The only complaint I really have is that the yelling audio from Isaac for when he stomps is delayed quite a bit. It plays when he’s bringing his foot back under him instead of when he hits his target or is about to hit something. Otherwise, this game looks gorgeous
The addition of holograms as recordings of the past events was great! The recreation of Nicole complaining about nobody telling them what’s going on was great. In the original it was just a voice massage but here it’s a visual representation of the event which makes it even more immersive!
Looks fantastic. I’m really excited for this one. My only complaint is that walking feels too fast for a dude who is clad in heavy armor and is inexperienced in combat. Isaac is not a soldier nor he had combat training, he is just an engineer who is thrown into that mess and has to survive. Him walking slow and clumsy felt more natural for a scared paranoid dude. Even the stomp feels like it’s quick and soft now. In the original you could feel the iron boot smashing through limbs and breaking stuff with sheer weight. But I can live with that, still hyped.
You can tell how much more terrifying necromorphs look. Those saying they don't see any change are RE stans hating on the fact that none of the RE games can come close to how scary Dead Space was and still is visually.
I've never played an horror game in my life but I enjoy watching playthroughs online. Resident Evil 7 and maybe even Village look as scary if not scarier than this. I don't think I've seen anything scarier than the Silent Hill games though.
@@Daniel-Rain-YT Different people think different things. you may be numb to this type of horror, others might be terrified. I myelf find it pretty scary all things considered. But hey, have a good day. :)
Hardly getting the resident evil 2 treatment when the ps1 original featured block characters and pre rendered backgrounds. Dead Space didn't need a remake, at all.
@@connorkenway09 Still holds up visually and gameplay-wise. Great atmosphere and still packs a fright. Not needed. Don't be a mindless consumer, it's literally just updated graphics.
Why did they remove Isaac's breathing noise? That was such a big part of the passive anxiety in the sound design, especially when he's wounded. I can't really hear it anymore.
Especially frustrating considering the devs have talked about their ALIVE system being an even more immersive and advanced expression system (watch a video on it on this very channel from some 5 months ago). I so hope this is just some configuration with Isaac's breathing removed for the gameplay demo... Just coping, probably..
They didn't. They just made a new system that controls his sound effects and makes them more dynamic. They probably toned down the breathing sound unless he is in a distressed state.
@@williamwatson9781 I don't see why that needed to be changed at all. The constant breathing was specifically highlighted as a focus for the entire game by the devs because it keeps tensions high and unsettles the player. I get that they have the OG voice actor, and obviously he can't be breathing like that while he's in dialogue, but that doesn't mean they can't have their cake and eat it too. Seems like a step backwards, if you ask me.
I love the impact of the shooting. Heavy sound, big recoil if you watch isaacs shoulder and that little clumsiness from Isaac because he isn't a trained soldier.
This is another sequence. In the original you see the dead captain get infected behind glass, then he breaks out. And you see it from your usual over the shoulder game perspective. In this remake it's more cinematic. Unless...it's also the 'same' sequence. As in after the glass is broken, the infector can come out too and infect the other corpses. Yeah...probably it is. Now I remember stomping on the corpses so they can't be infected.
@@mitkoogrozev I gotta say I actually dont like the cinematic of him transforming all that much, same thing happens in no.2 but issac seemed to react more and faster, here it looks a little goofy i think
Had a chance to play this game back in 2013. I actually played the DS 2 before this 🤣 but had watched all the walkthrough. To be honest, this game gave me chills when I played it. The jump scares, the environment, the way you killing those aliens or zombies, it was so different from any other horror games. Now 28 years old me seeing the remake, I definitely will play it again..
Did not have a chance to play dead space only dead space 2 and mobile and loved them both and looking at it so far it isnt a dissapointment hope it stays that way till release Plus the lighting already giving me chills.
Really hoping some of the animations and weird interactions are smoothed out in these final months, some look pretty jank and jittery. The footage at 8:06 looked really rough in particular with Isaacs reticle appearing on the wall behind him for some reason and the necro in the vents freaking out. The recoil on the plasma cutter looks a little weak to me too, doesn't look like it has much weight or power behind it compared to the original but i'm hoping for the best with this remake. Good luck Motive and good work so far.
It’s probably because the reticle comes out of the camera and not the gun. They did this since dead space 2 but had an option to toggle the legacy aim so I’m hoping there’s an option here too.
Luving Issac's New Suit Design! It looks more modern and futuristically advanced. Also I hope we get his classic suit as a reward for beating the main story in the games first walkthrough. The new Suit takes the older design and again makes it more modern like and I luv it plus from what I know the Coding from the old game is implemented into this one too.
As for me, the stomp animation seems strange - he moves his leg only, but doesn't utilize the weight of the entire body. And he swears AFTER he stomps but not synchronously as it has to be
The original animations are truly awesome it must be hard to bring it back, also missing animations when Isaac takes damage, and he doesn't walk like wearing a heavy metal armor
Given the Castillo Protocol is a letdown, this really, REALLY needs to knock it out of the park. If not, two of my survival horror dreams will have been shattered.
0:15 they based the Captain’s looks on how he looked in Dead Space downfall. That’s some continuity dedication. Edit: if you look closely, you can see dried up blood on his left eye from when he was struck by the needle.
@@thebiggerboat3236 either some sort of censorship, or they might be changing how the captain died. The sequence could just be unfinished a little bit as well.
@@thebiggerboat3236 okay I rewatched the clip in 720p, and yep, his left eye has dried up blood. Indicating that the crew removed the needle before placing him in the morgue.
The standard necromorph movement is so much more fluid and realistic than the original games. I remember the basic walker ones would always have the passive animation and once they spotted you, they would very suddenly switch to either the slow stalking movement or the sprint but the pathing always felt too rigid. Nice work!
currently playing through all 3 games again to get ready for this remake. really love how the game looks and the amount of detail and lighting in each location. i feel like the plasma cutter needs a little more recoil and the stomp feel like it needs a bit more force put behind it to give it a feeling of a power stomp. but other than those 2 things, absolutely hyped for the remake!
The original was way ahead of its time in terms of immersion. They created a character that was kinda clunky compared to the enemies he was fighting, without the controls feeling clunky. Few games managed to stay fresh throughout the play-through while only remaining in a single environment most of the time. The fully integrated HUD elements, the movement, the animations, it was such a well made game. I've been boycotting EA games since ME3 but I might get the remake if it turns out alright.
@@CanIHasThisName I agree with most of this, but imho the game doesn't stay fresh for the entire time. It kind of drags towards the end. I feel like the sequel mixes it up more and creates a faster pace. Dead Space is good but the sequel is better.

A true man of culture also knows where they jump from to earn Dead Space's greatest weapon: The Foam Finger

I'm so glad I didn't preorder that. I loved DS 1 but I never found it scary. Just super, super fun to play and I expected the same with TCP. But I had my misgivings too which proved to be well founded. The gameplay here though, looks great.
Looks like they're taking the movement from the 2nd game.
Well this could be a factor because I know they made the necromorphs faster in the remake, so it’s probably like that to balance out combat on different difficulties of the game.

It kicks in more depending on what's going on, you notice right after a fight he straight up breathing like a panic attack
They didn't. They just made a new system that controls his sound effects and makes them more dynamic. They probably toned down the breathing sound unless he is in a distressed state.
Original already looks better
@@williamwatson9781 I don't see why that needed to be changed at all. The constant breathing was specifically highlighted as a focus for the entire game by the devs because it keeps tensions high and unsettles the player.

If I remember correctly, in the original, you also had to fight the infector as, or, before it infects the other corpses in the morgue
Yea, seriously hope this part of the fight wasn’t loss. It was a perfect introduction on how to handle the infector.
I can probably guess that once Issac leaves the room, the next one will have the corpses & the Infector turning them into Slashers.

I take it as a sign of how well the original has aged that the remake keeps most of it the same and adds a new coat of graphical paint.
The original was way ahead of its time in terms of immersion. They created a character that was kinda clunky compared to the enemies he was fighting, without the controls feeling clunky.
