When you allow large corporations to make tons of profit with no regulations they put that money in their back pocket and they don't want to spend money improving or maintaining their infrastructure.

@@jacquelinerandle5152 and that one especially was a result of poorly maintained equipment that cascaded from one problem to the next to the next. It's actually quite an interesting story from a technical standpoint of how bad things went. But again, the short story is poor maintenance. Same thing going on here in California with the electrical wires causing massive fires, the monopoly electric utilities are super rich and the shareholders are super rich and the regulatory agencies are retired utility executives, and maintenance and infrastructure improvements are on the bottom of the list of priorities.

CenterPoint Energy and other major energy companies in Texas have been involved in significant political contributions, especially after legislative sessions. For example, after the 2021 legislative session, energy companies collectively donated about $497,000 to state officials, including Governor Greg Abbott, who received substantial donations from the energy sector. These contributions are often viewed as rewards for favorable legislative outcomes and lighter regulations, suggesting a strong connection between the energy industry and Texas politicians, particularly Republicans.

@@Here4TheHeckOfIt indirectly maybe….most of the issues were due to tree limbs knocking down power lines. Sorry, to burst your bubble. And downed trees are the reason it’s taking so long to repair things now. There always had to be people out there unable to see the big picture. Must be a Progressive.

Y’all realize the power was out long before the storm hit? I know people in Texas and they’ve said as much.

My uncle lives in Texas and a woman my cousin dated recently moved there and said the power was gone LONG before the storm hit. It was an artificial hurricane and an artificially created power outage. Testing the waters for worse.

This is not new in hurricanes , we were out of power for two weeks after Frederic and we were in mobile Al. It happens man. The people in our apartment complex were saying crazy stuff like “ nobody is in the office and there’s a circuit breaker in there they need to throw. It’s a bummer but it is a hurricane. If the government wouldn’t have squandered this nations wealth we could have underground cables .

Why hasn’t the president sent in military power production generators, set up tents with air conditioning, food and water???

We live in a desert and have several back up plans for power outages. One is keeping the fridge and freezer almost empty all summer so food isn’t wasted. We made sure to live in a place with a patio and an outdoor faucet to run a misting system for cooling. The last plan is to drive to friends or relatives with power, like in a state that regulates power companies.
