Mk4 GTi VR6 idle issue FIXED!!

- Few weeks ago I noticed the GTi would have an aggressive idle at times, and then attempt to stall without shutting off. So I poked around the engine bay and checked pretty much all connections, plugs etc and found this. A broken brake booster hose right at the check-valve. Replaced the hose with an OEM brake booster vacuum pipe/hose. Problem solved!

Good video, small bit of constructive criticism. Needs to be a lot more to the point, and less talking about things that don’t have to do with the rough idil. cheers for the video.
Appreciate the constructive criticism. I’ll keep that in mind.
This is exactly what I'm experiencing with my 12v vr6 atm and I've been replacing plugs, wires, coilpack etc. I'll be looking for a vacuum leak next!
Think you went in reverse order there boss, update if you figure it out - Take care.
@@Blessed.2.Teach.4God faulty lambda. Replaced it and stop dying, bad idle was fixed with a new air mass sensor (or what is the English name for that?)
I’m excited to see the finished product.
You and me both
I have that whap whap issue .thanks man really helpful 👍🏽
🙏🏽
Q bond superglue with filler works well on peeling door skin.
Mine has been holding fine for 4 years.
I fixed mine with1/2” pex pipe. Heated to fit over the barbed fittings and to form it.
Check the same type hose by the purge valve they tent to split open!
Thank for the video, can't wait to see it when you're done with your intentions for it. Did yours happen to throw a overheat light when having the idle issue. Mine is making the same sounds with an overheating light at idle get to speeds and it eventually goes down. It'll be great if it is the hose and not a thermo or water pump. I have a 24v VR6 02 GTI.
Blah Kass☻️
Golfs always gotta have a sagging headliner!
Hey man I'm having the same issue with that hose. How did you replace the hose without getting off that clamp on the intake? Was it an easy job? I'm looking at replacing mine with a junkyard one but I dont have a spare clamp for the intake part.
I ended up breaking it off, but using a wormclamp is what I used to resecure it to the rubber clamp.
Brother i justo had the same exact issue!!!! Fucking hated it happened to me two days ago it said it was the throttle body but it’s definitely that !! It does the same exact noise and it did give me the check engine for the intake manifold vacuum leak 🥺🥺 I’m going to see this video tomorrow again
🙏🏽
Btw it took me three days to find this video lmfaooo
I have a VR6 as well. It starts just fine but then sounds cammed and wants to die. When I let the clutch out in the car it slowly stalls and won’t move. Any ideas on what it could be?
I have the same issue especially when the engine is hot it stalls did you fix it??
Please tell me you found the fix
What is the official VW part no. for this brake booster vacuum hose? I have a VW Jetta Mk4 2004 VR6 24v 2.8L with the same problem. Initially I thought the issue was a Mass Air Flow issue with code P0103 Idle running Rich but I think I have the same issue has I bought this care with the same BANDAID remedy taped up.
Did you notice anything different when driving after installing? Thank you for making such an informative video.
It felt like it had full power yes. Appreciate that 🙏🏽
@@MK6Guy I have a 2003 Jetta 2.8L GLI. Slapped a cold air intake on it and it started to idle rough. After a few minutes the gas pedal became unresponsive and died.
Getting a P2181 code as well.
@@letsgobrandon5916 Did you install the map sensor in the right direction? If its flipped the wrong way, it will die instantly. Airflow direction makes a difference.
Mine has a big cam. Guess I better get a vacuum pump and test some vacuum lines. My cam has too much overlap so it doesn't make much vacuum at low rpm.
I am having an idle issue that’s sort of the same but we have the same engine, my vr6 2.8 runs fine but idles like it wants to shut off but never does. If you could help me out that’d be great
Check that hose I replaced. My check valve failed and started leaking right at the center of that hose. Check all your vacuum hoses, on these engines any vacuum leak will cause an idle issue.
Do you wont change color ?
Yes I am going to change the paint color after its visually done
Nice,l folow you go hard 💪💪💪
Question for you or anyone reading this regarding the MKIV GTI VR6. Do you have experience with troubleshooting and identifying the most likely cause of the square red LED portion of the instrument cluster (lower center of the overall cluster) sometimes fading to a point where none of the information that should be displayed is legible? To be clear, the LED cluster I'm referring to is the one that displays: outside air temperature, average MPG, actual MPG, and trip miles driven. Mine works fine when the engine is cold, and on a cold day. However, after driving the car a few miles or immediately upon start up on hot days, the red LED cluster backlighting and the information that should be displayed, just blends together. I sense this might be a common problem but do not know what the most common fix is for this problem. Thanks in advance. Also, this video helped, so thumbs up.
The red info square is a weak link for the display. The ONLY remedy you will have to fix it, is to have it completely upgraded to a modern digital readout. Its a few hundred bucks to do and the cluster has to be sent out. Look up @matt_litke on IG. He can do it for you. I’m most likely going to have him do mine as well.
@@MK6Guy Thank you. I appreciate the insight which seems to confirm this is a widespread issue with the MKIV. I also appreciate the referral to Matt Litke. Depending on the cost and how the modification is performed, I may or may not have the maintenance done. My preference is to not install aftermarket electrical components due to a concern that modifications might cause other electrical issues, resulting in much more difficult troubleshooting. I was hoping there might be a more simple DIY fix that uses factory components.
Good video but Men this guy can talk...
Its information
I have the 25 anniversary model lmk if interested

Who cares about the stupid door!
