  • Sorry about the thumbnail and don't worry, I'm not leaving Anchor Girl, only the marina 😂
    After 12 years at what is now our previous marina, we made the bold decision to move to a new location and we couldn't be happier!! Now being in new surroundings, run by a management team + facility that actually cares for its customers, we have been reinvigorated for the coming season :-)
    The new location is Starport Marina ( www.starportmarina.com/ ), located on the northeast part of Lake Simcoe. If you're interested in learning more about locating your boat here, email Anita at anita@starportmarina.com and be sure to tell her that Paul from the Boogaboo Crew sent ya!
    For a look at all of the projects I've done (continue to do) on this beautiful Sea Ray Sundancer, as well as on our previous boats, have a look at nearly 100 projects in my 'How I Did It - Boat Repairs And Upgrades' playlist, here; • How I Did It - Boat Re...
    Be sure to check out our 'Summer Cruise 2022' series, as we cruised for 5-1/2 weeks through much of Ontario, Canada's lovely 240 mile/386 km Trent Severn Waterway and even reaching the Rideau Canal for a few days! Full playlist can be found here; • Summer 2022 Cruise
    I hope you'll also follow along with my Blog (boatingwithboogaboo.wordpress...) for lots more boating content from our past 25 years of loving this incredible boating lifestyle!

    Hello there! This put us over the edge for our decision! You will have a neighbour June 1st. We will be making our way up the TSW to our new marnia at the top of simcoe! Our ‘99 380 Dancer doesn’t pail to much in comparison to your lovely 370.
    We are very excited! Anita was very great to have assist us.
    HURRY UP SPRING!

    Congratulations you guys! Starport is a beautiful spot. I love the steps they've installed to step down to the swim platform, very civilized. Surroundings are beautiful and it's a full service place with a great community. Again, congrats! Nice to see you both smiling as broadly as you are in the video.

    • @BoatingWithBoogaboo
      @BoatingWithBoogaboo  Před 9 měsíci

      We agree! We've been amazed by the Starport Crew continuously cruising by on their golf carts, picking up garage - no garbage cans, just leave out back of the boat and they take it away - delivering ice, helping boats with docking, and cleaning the washrooms. They will even swap out your BBQ tank if one runs out. That's great!
      All in all, we are very happy with this move and are looking forward to a relaxed season in' 24, without the many and regular 'distractions' of the last spot. . .

    Summer is never long enough, have fun in new Marina great thing there is alot of other businesses that want and will work for your money. We dont have to put up with bad services or negativity. It is hard sometimes to move on but the relief when done makes you wish you had done it sooner. Look forward to what's next.

    Congrats on the new home for Boogaboo, I know the feeling you were describing about the 40’ and previous marina. We def felt the same when we sold this summer when back onboard to gather the last few things after all the work and planning it didn’t give me that sense of pride for everything we’ve share with that vessel. Now hope you take lots of time off next summer and enjoy the boat more than ever. Thx for all you do.

    In the US the summer was very short, the decent weekends started in July and between the high winds and rain/clouds it really made for a useless struggle polishing her up and get her ready back in April. Put it this way, i only spent a G on gas the entire season. Spent lots of time sitting at the dock. 🙄 sometimes i feel it’s not worth the energy or investment. But the reality is it’s cheaper and better than owning a shore house, lets face it a great view gets old just like anything else at least with a boat you can go explore and have all the comforts of home with you. 👍🏻. As for maintenance, my buddy tells me “everything on your boat is broken you just don’t know it yet. “. 😆🤣. Anyway i love watching you guys i wish you lots of luck and good times 👍🏻

      What part of the US? I am in MD, the upper Chesapeake Bay, had the greatest summer ever. The best spring I can remember in my life!! Used the boat almost every single weekend, never got wet one time while in transit. It rained one afternoon while we were at another marina for the weekend, but that is it. Probably put 125 hours on the engines.

    Nice move Paul. You're a hour closer to Georgian Bay and the pretty end of the Trent. I've always had great service from Anita had her staff. Stay within those markers coming and going as its about 6 feet deep or less in that bay. A much quieter spot indeed.

    • @BoatingWithBoogaboo
      @BoatingWithBoogaboo  Před 9 měsíci

      Yes, I was a little taken aback when I approached the end of McFee Bay. I knew there was a marked channel heading into the marina, but wasn't familiar with how far to the left that first red marker was.
      And it will be nice to be a little closer to the Severn section of the TSW, but we also equally enjoy the rest of the system. Bottom line is the benefits of being at a marina that clearly cares for their customers - us boaters!

    New place looks nice and a lot less cleaning too with the covered slip but I really liked the openness of the old place. It’s always hard and sometimes a crap shoot switching places, especially after years at one place but when you get that feeling it’s time to leave, it’s time. I’ll be switching my winter storage location for the first time in decades but after changing hands three times in six years and not having any confidence in the new ownership, I’ll be moving. New place is an upgrade like you’re doing, with a full service mechanic and fuel dock, plus it’s actually a quicker and SAFER drive to my home. It’s a shame my old place was allowed to deteriorate like it did - notice it’s happening to quite a few marinas - which is surprising since upkeep shouldn’t be that expensive given the prices they charge.

    • @BoatingWithBoogaboo
      @BoatingWithBoogaboo  Před 9 měsíci +2

      Take your third sentence but replace changing hands three times to changing FOUR times since we got there - but still spot on with no confidence in the most recent 'team'. Sad, but reality forced our move.

    We left Lake Simcoe (Keswick) about 4 years ago for Georgian Bay. Too many years doing the locks every season to get there. It's clear you enjoy them but I find them tiring. We were on our way back from vacation when Big Chute broke down for days. Turned around and went back to the Bay and haven't been back. Sad news about John! He was a boat neighbour too and we lost touch.
    Enjoy Starport.

      We were at Keswick Marine for nine seasons with the first three Boogaboo boats before moving on. I actually started my boating life there when my parents put their first boat in that marina waaaaaaaay back in 1971!
      Georgian Bay for a home port was something we knocked around over the years, but are content with staying within an hour of Simcoe. The run through the locks, for us, is an added benefit of our cruising adventures.

    Good for you on making a move… Being happy is the main goal… Kind of intriguing on how they lift those boats out being undercover… I take it there are beams in the roof that lift it up out of the water… I’d like to see a video on how they do that and secure it for winter…

    Sorry to see you leave Lagoon City , Always enjoyed looking over to see your boat docked as I paddle by in the Kayak. I guess you will not have the amazing sunset or sunrise views in the open water but also will not be waken up by the geese . Is there a spot for Anchor Girl to have her campfire ??? Cheers Paul and Anchor Girl enjoy your new place .

      All things change and although the sunrises were beautiful, it was definitely time for us to leave that place. As for the fire pits, no propane fires allowed,but the marina dies have large firepit for natural campfires.

    Star Port is the best 👌! We were there for 6 years, Mark and Anita are amazing, and the service is top-notch. I don't know if they still do it but breakfast in bed (Room service on your boat) is a must try.

      Thanks Jason. Glad you could offer your insights on the marina. So far, we are so glad to have made the jump, especially to a place that offers professional services, staff and clean washrooms/property!

      It's a Lefroy Harbour, it's 20 minutes from home so we are able to be on the boat all the time. If we need to be home for an appointment, one of us can go and come back no problem.

      Little things you don't think are important but come in handy all the time is, they have free ice 24/7 and free laundry machines. If you call while you are on your way up, they will turn the ac on for you so it's perfect temperature when you get there. Like I said, Little extra touches of service that add up to a great experience. There's Star Port and then everyone else!

    Free ice!! It's worth more than people may think, LOL. My top two things I LOVE about my marina...free ice, and in slip pump outs. Congrats on the move Paul, gonna be sweet!

    • @BoatingWithBoogaboo
      @BoatingWithBoogaboo  Před 9 měsíci +1

      The 'free' ice is a bonus, and they also offer a mobile (in slip) pump-out which could be handy. Apart from that, the Starport Crew regularly (many times throughout the day) drive by on their golf carts to pick up any garbage, will drop off a bag of ice, and will even swap out you BBQ tank if required. That last one will be a potential lifesaver, as you know that the only time the propane runs out is midway through grilling dinner ;-)
      As mentioned in the video, it's too bad we didn't commit to this mover earlier. It would have saved a lot of, well, lets just say 'unhappy times' at our last place. Really, really looking forward to next season!!
      I'll be doing a followup video over the coming days, so let me know if there's anything specific you'd like to learn about or see that I might be able to include. . .

    I love the animation you have related to keeping the canvas up. I've recently picked up a new Sea Ray Amberjack and I inherited its covered slip for the season, you're saying don't bother worrying about the canvas, and more specifically, the isinglass staying up over the winter?

    • @BoatingWithBoogaboo
      @BoatingWithBoogaboo  Před 9 měsíci

      What I was saying is that leaving all the canvas/plastic up for the winter in a covered slip doesn't worry ME - but some of our fellow boaters would never do that. Then again, those are the same folks who don't do any maintenance on their own boats, so I can see where they're coning from ;-)
      Here's an older video taken aboard our last boat - czcams.com/video/INHDpM-qa-g/video.htmlsi=la9uTvJ0Da9o2Rg6&t=60 - that will show what is looks like while stored in a covered slip for the winter, as well as numerous other boats, most of which still have their full canvas up.

      @brian48026 Před 9 měsíci

    Your boating season in Canada is so incredibly short! How much does it cost you a year when it's all said and done? Love watching your videos

    • @BoatingWithBoogaboo
      @BoatingWithBoogaboo  Před 9 měsíci +1

      Yes, our boating season in this part of the world (Ontario, as well as the northeastern US) is always too short. That's why we have to make the most of it!
      As for costs, a lot of that depends on how much traveling we do in any given season. Fuel is a big part of that, but I'd say roughly $12-15,000 ($CAN) per year for everything - without major boat upgrades...

The hw tank is new… then I saw the dastardly regulator (original). So… I’m forgoing replacing it. Just going hot to hot. Cap the cold and toss the reg! Due to a unique opportunity in front of me, I’m wondering if you might be willing to answer some questions for me about what was most important to you in picking your marina. I know a couple things you mentioned in the video, but perhaps I could email you a few other questions I have and let you know why I’m asking. @@BoatingWithBoogaboo what services that your new marina provides were most important to in selecting said marina?

    • @BoatingWithBoogaboo
      @BoatingWithBoogaboo  Před 9 měsíci +1

      The main, overriding thing is simple, consistent communication! And that includes consistent, predictable hours of service for basic things like gas dock availability - staff to pump out or sell fuel.
      I'm pretty self sufficient when it comes to taking care of our boat, but basic marina stuff is needed for everyday service. Having lost that where we were forced us to leave.

  • @cavemannnn2000

    had a client there. A slips, He said he is not allowed to powerwash his own boat after hullout or before spirng launch, and wasnt allowed to bring in his own mechanic to work on his boat. slips there are close to 10k. Also, they have a huge spider problem there, and new law states you cant use spiderspray in that marina. ( Their always watching!)
    Again, if you have the money, and like to spend the overchagerd service, have a blast.

    • @BoatingWithBoogaboo
      @BoatingWithBoogaboo  Před 9 měsíci +1

      After being in three prior marinas - and visiting literally dozens more - over the past 25 years of our boating life, we are well aware of the fact that they ALL have their plusses and minuses. For us, this move was the best as we were very unhappy with the last spot. Yes, spider poop can be an issue, but no more than the continuous bird poop in an open slip.
      As for being overcharged, we feel that the service and the fact that they actually work towards keeping their clients taken care of is worth the peace of mind. Money is NOT the be all and end all in this world. If we're not ultimately happy, there's really no point in continuing boating.
      Too bad it didn't work out for your client. I think we will be fine . . .

    It looks very nice. But can imagine this place will have more spiders that will find a place on the exterior of the boat. They get blown from the trees and land on the boat. The difference for us was extreme. the first marina was mainly a small village and some short grass. The new marina is lined with big trees and bushes. looks great. Has a lot more wind protection at ground level but the amount of spiders that started appear with their webs everywere is bizar. And them being there catching the mosquito's is great. but them digesting them andnpooping them out is an other thing. not so nice. Well the trees at that marina look like they are further away than in our marina so maybe you are lucky.
