It’s extremely impressive considering his super low muscle mass. Most sprinters are huge, so they pull a lot of water and create more resistance with their body. On the other hand, Popovici seems like he’s gliding through the water with barely any resistance with his incredible technique, which makes him more hydrodynamic. He showed us how much versatility there is in this sport and that you don’t have to fit necessarily into one body type in order to perform on a world stage. Revolutionary!

@@williamwarren9397 Just kidding, actually. Many of us who spent a lot of time in pools with lane lines remember being yelled at by lifeguards for holding onto them. You would hear it all the time while working out.

The best part of this is the inevitable increase in strength he’s going to get growing into his early 20s. We all figured he was going to get this record within the next few years, but a month after worlds. Can’t wait for the 200 when this talented kid who is also working his ass off shows how good he is!
He'll probably smash the 50m record if he does beef up although he has a lot of work to do there. Maybe we need Dressel to kill that WR for us

@@andreitud6707 I just meant as he's only 17, if he does gain a lot of size and muscle he can be a gold medalist at the 50 too. For this champs he probs needs a sub 22 to medal in the 50m and I doubt he is there yet. Had no idea he was going for the 400m I've not seen him race that, but maybe he has more chance to medal in that event.
It's definitely possible at one point. If someone said the 50 would be broken in the next year I'd guess it to be Dressel unless Popovici gets even stronger much sooner than we expect. I'm really hoping one of them gets it, and I feel like Popovici probably will before the end of his career. I'd like to see any super suit time fall as soon as possible so whoever gets it first is fine by me. But this kid might actually be the guy to sweep 50 through 400 in free. His recent time in that would have been phenomenal if he didn't miscount lol. I doubt he'll make that mistake again.

But yeah Pop's frame & build really suits his current race distances extra muscle could also effect his engine for the 200 etc so will have to see! Either way the dude is a beast.
