Such the things happen often, almost every year ... here is a pigeon at the moment that returns regularly to take some food from hand ... twice a day or so. Found in poor shape but I am glad she is now absolutely well and independent. Some would say ... you are too old for this Paul but I simply can't change myself nor would like to. That fills my life. ... sometimes it takes time to achieve the order in such the "special" families ... yes, families. I remember those times when I used to take a wolf on the saddle,
horse wasn't complaining although it wasn't quite easy for me to mount holding the wolf in my hands. Later it was quite simple for all of us to travel that way when ever we wanted to. A few months ago I was riding ex-race stallion outdoors, freshly removed horse so I had to start his schooling- Occasionally I noticed a wounded raven. I managed to catch it to see why it can not fly. Horse jumped scared but I didn't leave it. Although the other two ravens were trying to attack me from the air I successfully brought it to the faraway stable riding ... while raven even caught my hands with his strong and long beak. The horse obviously trusted me Thou it certainly wasn't easy. There are really a lot of examples I could tell you. Thanks.

This year just awhile ago I got the pigeon with similar destiny. Now the bird returns home each day often twice to get some food and then back to who knows where to spend the night. I am glad for pigeon bacame a kind of independant what is rare because most of birds hand reared that way became "inprinted" to those who takes care of them. That is one nosy little crow, poking into every little hole in a vain attempt to find something hidden there or was it a ruse. He doesn't seem one bit afraid of that enormous little terrier, called Bully enticing him to play and plays along. But the little crow has other ideas on what to do with his time, like getting into trouble while you were trying to work on your truck. Altogether, a very happy, inquisitive little crow when he has friends to play with and a human to tease ha ha, Wonderful, wonderful animals to astonish us with their simple games. I believe we all understood each other quite well. Unfortunatelly as you know already the bird didn't lived long what shocked me hard. You can't expect safety for animals in urban area especially because of people who can cause mostly harm to them.

Another amazing video! Many people don't realize that birds also enjoy playing, just like mammals. Have you ever had any experiences with a raven? They are also really smart and one of my favorites. And the Staffordshire terrier is one of my favorite dog breeds as well, strong and smart and loyal. How does the dog react to the wolf? If you still have a wolf near you, are one of them the leader or none of them is more dominant. There are many debates over the internet if the wolf or the pitbull would win in a fight so i decided to ask for your opinion too since you have worked with both, a wolf, and a staff that is really close to a pitbull terrier, as well as with a german shepherd. I personally believe that if its in a closed space the pitbull has the upper hand but in the wild a wolf wouldn't attack directly but would rather try to tire the dog and then walk around it, attacking and jumping back, until it gets the chance to take a good bite. Just like a wolf would do when hunting a dangerous game like wild boar or a male deer. We had a German shepherd and a Cane Corso before, as well as a Labrador, golden retriever and a Czechoslovakian wolfdog, which is a breed made from a german shepherd and an eurasian wolf. Is the left leg f the bird wounded or am i seeing it wrong?

    • @PavleBalenovic
      @PavleBalenovic  Před 4 lety +1

I have to say that I do not make difference with animals no matter what kind they are. Their personality has to be respected ... each as unique. The other detail that I always have to bear in mind is their size and needs ... for example a horse as quite a big animal needs more space to react when playful or when scared ... that has to be allowed to him. There are a lot of specific details and needs that make animals different one to another. That has to be respected.
Some are let me say, seem smarter (like Ravens) than others.
My relation towards each is almost always the same... I am always trying to remain what I really am, no pretending, ...not authoritative behavior nor submissive. ... trying to be almost like equal what makes best connections.
This is what I expect from animals, too... and among them if they are let me say the members of my family and we share the same home.
My dog really found his place and role here... not much is asked from him to do
so he guards us as every other dog would. I do not have any wolves but I am sure there would be no problems with such the dog and hand-reared wolf. They would both be friends if I would set them together. Female , she-wolf would surely make troubles especially when she would grow up enough to mate (3rd year).
But if you would put such the dog into the cage with any wolf ... dog wouldn't have any chance to survive. Many people are interesting on that... I know about the case when something like that is made as test ... wolf and pit-bull in the cage feed from outside during half an hour... fresh meat was thrown across the high fence... dog didn't even manage to grab any piece no matter how he tried for wolf was much quicker and grabbed every single piece in amazing jumps he did even above that poor dog. There was no reaction nor fight among them as long as there was no meat that was thrown ... then suddenly wolf jumped on that dog any easily killed him ... in a second. No need to discuss what the wild animal is in fact. Kill to eat ... to survive. I was offered to see the first part of this story filmed but for the finale I asked to get the answer....
In the wild wolf would be dominant too by means of time, space and endurance just as you said ... he would follow the prey until it gets exhausted ... often the prey has to be separated from the group ... these details are seen in documentaries often.
The crow in my video has fallen from its nest and was given to me with broken leg... I do not know how many animals, birds ore else I managed or at least tried to heal. It often isn't easy to succeed.

@@PavleBalenovic Animals sometimes die, just like humans, this is natural and it happens no matter what we do to save them, the important thing is to make sure we have done everything we can to help, the rest is not in our hands. About the feeding experiment, i think we saw something similar when you tested the responding to a command with a wolf vs german shepherd in one older video. The wolf was more active and would jump around and against the fence to get some food quicker while the dog was more passive, of course that is because a dog as a species is used to get i's food from the human while the wolf can die, or at least starve if it doesn't get that piece of meat in the wild. I have seen feeding of wolves in captivity a few times. About that filmed experiment with a wolf and a pitbull, if you still have access to it, it would be interesting for me to see it.

@@PavleBalenovic Oh, I see. I believe that since the pitbull and the wolf weren't rised together they wouldn't see each other as a family, as a pack, so it could be a fight for the territory, rather than for lack of space. As far as I know an animal would attack for a few main reasons. 1 It's hungry (there had been enough food for the wolf). 2 for dominance (happens between pack members, normally when food is involved, and that normally ends with one wolf giving up and the other doesn't even bite, just growl and show teeth. 3 if the animal is trapped and it feels like it can't escape. Then it's protecting itself or its family and most of the attacks of wolves on humans are caused by that. And 4 to protect its territory.
But anyways, the video isn't that important, it's sad for the pitbull though.

@@stopYmpersonatYngmYacCount An adult wolf would never make friends with such the dog that is far away from let me say "natural" creature" because it is bred for special purposed by man. It's genes are "confused" if it can be said so. Wolf respects such like cripple and can't find any natural reaction from it ... that can even frighten the wolf what can force him to kill ...or he can find out the dog can be his prey. I remember that wolves were often scared of the plastic bag or football especially when jumping. For them it is something far to artificial what even has no smell what with they would read what are the intentions and status of that jumping creature. If such the thing that can look even like danger makes them scare and is too close so that they can not avoid it the only thing is to attack and make it quite ... kill. The same reason is why they kill more sheep or goats then needed when they attack them in fenced pen or stable. They plan to grab one goat (can't take nor eat more) but
those others simply make and spread panic what makes wolf hared to escape as they would steal one and in silence.
After all those pieces of fresh meat has been thrown to wolf and dog in that fence the dog isn't killed because of hunger
but a kind of hate that wolves have towards the dogs... I'd say they do not respect dogs as complete personalities ...
dogs are rather submissive especially for they are trained to listen their masters ... no matter what the commands are.
That doesn't make sense for and wild clear-minded and highly proud creature such the wolf is. Wolf can't but see the cripple in dogs. There is almost never the question of dominance even ... dog attacks to grab a piece of meal for his stomach to survive. Dog bites to cause a pain not to fed ...
In the wild among the same kind of species the rules are simple. No scientists needed for explanation.
The group of wolves is almost never bigger than a family. Six cubs, mother and father. The relationship is as by humans.
We all know who is the first, whose has to be respected ... submission shown is in fact respect.
The bigger groups exist only in the areas where people managed to keep wolves ... parks, protected areas, fenced etc.
where they are often even fed by bigger game that are bred in the same area ... all organized for viewers and visitors ...tourist. All unnatural although we would like it to look it so.
It is really expected that animals won't behave there as when free in untouched wilderness where they instinctively plan the size of their families and their numbers.
When I was filming the documentary with the BBC crew back in 1996... I noticed that they always expected something attractive to happen, so that something interesting can be filmed ... waiting is in fact what we all did, waiting for days. ... but wolves too were waiting, they always have lots of patience and more time than we can imagine.... if nothing then they do not need to go to sleep as we do .... I said there won't be anything much to be seen except peace, tranquility and resting for this is the way wolves live. Such must be the environment they can survive in. And really, wolves were more peaceful that when I was alone with them. Once the crew left the area wolves showed out from their hidden spots ...almost like saying :
"Thanks God these are gone ... what were they asking for?"
These are some details from my own experience ...
people usually do not know what to ask for
while you in fact are the first who did and with such deeper knowledge and interest.

Besides, a friend of mine when she was studying for a vet ... traveled even to Sumatra for the vacations one year before she finished studies on her faculty. I still remember how excited she has been when she returned and how nice impressions she brought. There are quite a lot of differences in climate all over the world and it is always changing. Oh, yes, winter isn't just for joy as we often watch skying, snow boarding and other sports ...
that season is hard for animals to survive, most of them hibernate whole the winter long till snow melts and warmer days appear. Here on my channel are some clips that I filmed during quite cold blizzards and snow storms in the mountains I visit often. Before I used to take my dog with me. The best companion to help you find the way and to return home especially during fog or night when it is easy to get lost if you do not know the area perfectly. I used to have few dogs during my life. It has never been important to me what kind of a dog to get ... I was offered all kinds of breeds and once I got used on it we soon became a family.
If you ever plan to get one think first that a dog is not a toy thou you can play with it as with nothing else on the world. Dog is man's best friend but it is a huge responsibility to have one ...care and love is what dogs must receive to give the same back to their "owners" if this can be said so. Dog becomes a family member so this is how it has to be respected.
