Marvel Fanfare was one of my favorites when I was a kid. Spotlighting creators and various characters, having cool pinup art, having no ads (right? Or were there ads), and being printed on that nice paper just made for a great series. I wish Marvel would try that again but I just don't think they have enough talent or care to really do it right.

Definitely one of my favorite books of the 80s.

It was great that they packaged everything in one issue. Thanks for watching!

I came across this comic during the early 90s in a quarter bin, and I enjoyed it very much, mostly because I was already a fan of the Byrne/Claremont/Austin combo. It was the comic that introduced me to STAR-LORD, as I had never owned any of his b/w magazine appearances. I could be mistaken, but I think this story may have been reprinted in a Star-Lord trade that came out post 2000 that reprinted all of his b/w appearances plus the Marvel Spotlight issues that he appeared in. Wasn't that Star Lord edition printed on what was known as Baxter paper back then? Those PRESTIGE-Format comics were very cool, and offered such a wide variety of content. Just a couple that stood out for me from that 80s era, the Jim Starlin GILGAMESH series, the BLOOD vampire tale released by Marvel's EPIC imprint, and the PUNISHER: P.O.V mini by Jim Starlin and artist Berni Wrightson. Great post!

Jim Starlin seemed to have his hands in so many of the prestige format series. I really liked Cosmic Odyssey and the Punisher P.O.V. series was a lot of fun. I ended up getting a lot of those prestige format series in the cheapie bins as shops and dealers really over-ordered on those based on the success of those earlier series. I think you can still find a lot of those in the dollar bins today!
