Today we are taking a look at the Boss RV6. Overall, this pedal is pretty great, but I've always hated the shimmer setting. That is, until I started tweaking it to find the perfect shimmer setting and now I love it!

I had an RV-6 on its way to me when I saw this vid. When the pedal arrived a few days later, I was running through the modes and jumped to the shimmer mode, since that was a bonus fet. for me on this model. I gotta say, I wasn't digging it at all until I remembered this vid and cranked the tone down all the way counterclockwise. Now it sounds much more use-able. Thanks for the tip! As much as I try, it's hard to completely let go of my '70s audiophile background of starting with everything at noon. LOL
Does the effect ring out / fade out when u click it off?

Good to see other people are finding this setting. It's almost like Boss hid another mode in the shimmer mode. Sometimes, I'll veer closer to 8 oclock, just to add a touch of brightness in a busier band mix, and it still has that vibe.

Awesome video man! I love the dark settings on reverb and delay units, especially to create atmospherics and grittier sounds that are not so piercing or metallic. Nice work! :)
I took a chance on an RV-6 a few weeks ago and was really blown away. I had always overlooked it as I kept looking at more expensive units. I really am impressed by the quality of the sounds. I’m about to probably pick up a Meris Polymoon or Enzo to go with it.

I just bought a used hof2 reverb, still getting tones dialed in, shimmer sounds amazing.

I love the RV6! Thanks for demoing the hidden secret.
I bought last week my Boss RV6 brand new unit, aiming for a neunaber immerse mkii but i gave it a shot. Was never disappointed at Boss. Turning down the tone to zero at shimmer is the sweet spot, i am adding a Boss tremolo or an Ibanez analog chorus mini.
I've always set it to around 9 o' clock and had good results. I'm happy to see someone else found this in the rv-6. It gets too much hate when compared to its predecessor.
I need another reverb because of this, the RV-6 is my shimmer pedal now

It sounds amazing. Certainly mega useful for lots of types of music. It’d be great to combine it with my Blues Driver pedal.

Totally Agreed! But i think the rv-6 is an exception other reverb shimmers still sound very bad have horrible latency issues.

That sounds sweet. I am pumped about this giveaway! Its super weird that you happen to be doing one for this pedal. I was actually looking to get a reverb pedal and the two I had it narrowed down to was this one and the Hall of Fame 2. So far I don't have any pedals and I have an orange rocker 15 that doesn't have reverb so my first pedal I wanted was a reverb pedal. But here's hoping! Great job on the video !

Hey man i watched a few of ur Videos nice work!! I have one question: What Reverb can you recommend in a price 70-150? I play a DSL 40cr. I like to gently dial in a good room sound that makes Distortion bigger, and maybe an good quality ambient sound, i want that for Intros etc......Been looking for rv6 or a hof2. The Hof2 seems liken it lacks quality tonewise. Also there is the foxgear rainbow only very few details on the internet. What is your opinion of the two for my rig, and what would you take? THX greetings From Austria, keep up that good work!!;)

I’ve owned the el cap, polara, rv500 and an oceans 11... all of them had some good sounds in them but this shimmer is sweet..
I use this effect on my oceans on like 1/3 of my bands songs. Would you say that you like this one more?

I have the RV-6 and like it. I have two other TC reverbs I started with and now like the RV-6 over the TC, except for maybe going back to the cathedral on the TC. I am looking for a new more advanced reverb pedal and trying to get to a decision al though without gigs there is certainly no hurry. Strymon and Eventide are a bit pricey so thinking it will be the Boss RV-500. Although the Source Audio Ventris Dual Reverb is a possibility, smaller footprint.
If you are looking for something beefy and don’t mind fiddling around with the settings to maximize the sounds: the Strymon is fantastic. If you’re like me and want something more simple that doesn’t require a degree, I would STRONGLY recommend the Source Audio or the Empress Reverb. No deep diving into LED menu screens or anything. What you see is what you get. That’s my style
6 String Stories Thanks so much for your input. Aside for price, both the Strymon and Eventide seem a bit complicated for my use. I do like simple in a pedal effect.

I overlook boss purely on cosmetics..dang this pedal sounds good. My reverb is a tc trinity. The ethereal 1 setting is nice but not shimmery enough and the toneprints dont quite hit it either. Might be time to shop for a new reverb
Honestly I did the same thing for years - until I started trying Boss pedals. Now I want them all! haha
@@6StringStories I'm a huge tc electronic fan, mostly because of toneprint. I wish I could afford more...lol but boss is a solid reliable brand and they are great sounding. I just need some shimmer and maybe a nice fuzz

There is a delay+reverb setting on this pedal, but not with shimmer.
