As an employee of Hobby Lobby (I worked a year on register and over a year in the frame shop), I have to say I'm impressed with your video. I thought you were very open and non-bias in your reporting. :-) Well done.
I can confirm one thing about the pandemic and the employees getting paid. I was there when my store shut down for 2 months, and while we didn't get full pay, my manager personally called me to let me know I would be getting a smaller amount out of the store's emergency fund, which continued for those two months.
Based on my personal experience, I'm happy to say that my time with Hobby Lobby was a good and much-needed respite from the horrible jobs/bosses I've had in the past. I know every location/manager is different, but working there with my supportive co-workers and pleasant customers healed a lot of the mental health struggles I had been having (those had gone on or years and were already on the slow upswing, but being at a low-pressure job I liked really boosted my needed reprieve).
All this to say, thanks for making this video in a respectful way. Regardless of its controversies, the store as a place to shop and to work has been a huge comfort and blessing to me.
I quit in less than two weeks because I'm moving, and honestly I am sad to leave.

@@rhace1491 I agree with you that businesses should be allowed to express their religious beliefs within reason (including publishing those ads), but the video literally discusses how Hobby Lobby has been a hostile place for Jewish people. In addition, I've done my own research, and Hobby Lobby has both advocated for the legalization of discrimination against LGBT employees based on "religious exceptions", and continuously prevented a trans female employee from using the woman's bathroom. That case just went to court, and the employee won unanimously. I have no issue with businesses that are proud of their religious views, but when they use their power and religion to discriminate against others is when I draw the line.

We studied the hobby lobby case while I was in college for my civil rights law class. It was the most complicated, interesting, and debated case. There was no simple answer because of the ACA, First Amendment, the concept of corporate personhood, and the public accomodations issues at play. It isn't a new concept at all either, although corporate person "rights" is somewhat new. It may be a source of ire, but it boils down to the details of what it means to establish a corporation. Even the term "corporation" has as the root of the meaning of the word a "body" ("corpus") showing that was always the intention even when these kind of organizations were originally established in medieval times.

As a student studying architecture at my community college, the amount of times I went there for model supplies or pencils made them a godsend since they were nearby. Yes they weren’t completely essential as I’m sure many people could have ordered stuff on Amazon but juggling muitiple classes and having a store nearby that you know will have what you need freed up some space in my mind that would of went to planning ordering supplies at certain times to make sure I can complete parts or project by their due date. Although I had the job title as Stockman, I only helped stocking anything when the other guys needed a hand. What my actually job was was janitor. Anyhow, it was less about how well you did your job, and more about how close you are to management. I was one of two, maybe three guys, that actually broke a sweat on a regular basis, yet I got passed up for full time employment several times. A couple of them were those that only worked a few months (one was just three months). That's when I gave my notice and left. This was a few months before the whole covid thing. Shortly there after, four of their other best employees quit, as well. Keeping in touch with a couple that still work there, they've said it's a shit show, a joke now. Seeing how they thought me cleaning up some awful messes that nobody in their right mind should cause let along clean up wasn't worth a "full time" status of 35 hours a week, I won't bother working for them again - especially as a janitor.

I just worked for the company for two weeks it was massive chaos. It was nothing like the impression that you get as a shopping customer, trust me! I am a Christian as well Sr & Jr Green, and I’m going to expose you just like the Bible tells us to do when we see a another Christian doing wrong. so I thought Hobby Lobby would be a wonderful environment, simply because it was always pleasant listening to inspirational music as I shopped, and I just felt good about the atmosphere… love the idea that they closed reverence to God on Sundays. I always used to joke with the other nurses and say that hobby lobby was my retirement job. Why did I find out very quick, that Hobby lobby wears a façade. I worked 15 years in the nursing field, I have a four-year degree so I’m definitely no dummy! I can see through the smokescreen, and I saw through hobby lobby‘s very quickly. I just wanted something part time, because I am tamping down and preparing for retirement in the next two years. I am a very patient person, (no pun intended). Everything at Hobby Lobby started out a little unprofessional straight from the beginning. In what should have been a professional interview, was me waiting 30 minutes at the front of the store for the manager to finally come talk to me. When the store manager finally did arrive, the interview took and all but 10 minutes, in the front of the store, in front of the registers, with distraction of customers coming and going. For 8 minutes he talked all about himself, his past, etc.… Very weird for an interview. 2 minutes he talked about what God had done in his life, then offered me a position at $14.50 an hour. I took the position Even though that was nowhere even near what I was making as a nurse, I did expect with my past experience in retail and with a bachelors degree at the minimum $16,
But I I knew this was just a retirement job and in 90 days I possibly get a little bit of a raise anyway. I took the position, started the next day, that night I walked into the back where they receive shipment, boxes were stacked everywhere to the ceiling you couldn’t even walk. As I continue to work throughout the day I realize that the store was quite chaotic, lack of communication between employees, manager, assistant managers, wow! 2 days into the job I walk in to find out that the store manager who had hired me, just abruptly quit with no notice; after being there for 10 years! The second week and my 3rd day there I was talking about 90 day evaluation‘s, one the employee said, we don’t get evaluations, I was like you don’t get evaluations, then how do you get a 90 raise? She said there was no such thing so I mentioned it to one of the assistant managers, She proceeded to laugh and said, “we don’t get raises here.” She said, “we start out at 13 for part time and that’s where we stay even if you’re here 10 years, you don’t get a raise”. I could not believe what I was hearing. So I said, “you mean I will make $14.50 Forever unless I go full-time?” She said, “that’s impossible, everyone makes $13 an hr, part time.” So come to find out, I’m really making $13 an hour, with no potential merits for a raise. So basically their employees never get rewarded! So to make a long story short, I’m finding out a lot of things that I was not told. The whole façade of “it’s such a great place to work, you make above minimum wage”, is a lie. When you walk into the store you see this great big banner that says $18 an hour for full-time, $13 and up for part time. I’d like to know what the “up” part is. ? Basically it’s just 13 an hour for part time forever! so as I’m looking at the schedule, I notice, everybody on there Is PT, with the exception of only 2 full-time people in the entire store, the manager, and the bookkeeper. I look at the hours and they have part-time people working full-time hours, without full-time pay. So you get the picture? They’re working everybody basically 35 hours a week for $13 an hour. So why would you need to hire people full-time and pay $18 an hour, when you can get part-time people to work full-time hours and pay them only 13 an hour but tell them since they’re not working 40 hours a week they can only make 13 an hour because they’re part time hours….it’s all a scam and a big lie. So just beware of people there’s no potential for advancement, no potential for a raise… You really think I’m gonna work for $13 an hour standing on my feet, minus 1- 30 minute break? Not happening, if I were going to do that I would go back to making $35 an hour. Now there’s a lot of other things that I could mention here that shocked me as hobby lobby supposed to be based on Christian values, but I’ll just save that and let God handle it from here. It is a very deceiving place and I am very disappointed in Mr. Green Sr $ Jr, shame on you!! I’m not surprised They get most of their goods from overseas, that’s where most of the sweat shops are, working people to death so they can get fat pockets while their employees can barely put food on the table let alone ever have a family vacation…they have the same mentality.
Mr. Senior and Junior green don’t you Barth Christian family values to me, if you care then you start paying your part-time employees what they’re worth.

I'm not religious myself, but I stand by their freedom of speech. And from what I see in all this is the family saying 'this is what WE like. If you don't like it, we don't mind' Other stores to choose from, even on Sundays. As for Jewish items not being sold, their choice as well. I'm sure many Jewish retailers hate having to sell Christmas items in their stores, and there's no law saying they HAVE TO. And no problem for the orthodox ones that simply don't. The whole contraception deal I don't think ANY company should be responsible for. If one's smart enough to work, be a good employee, save their money and start a family down the road - or not. That's the individuals decision. If they want to buy contraceptives with their pay, that's their right. And if they want to be subsidized, get their own insurance provider that will do so. As to the museum and all, again - the family seem to like it, and may educate and inspire others that want to get interested in religion and it's history. As to the artifacts legality and/or legitimacy, I think ANY museum or art gallery encounters that at some point. And I'd say 9 times out of 10 it's purely unintentional. And as long as it isn't being desecrated, modified, or pushed upon anyone, all the power to the Green's then. I may not agree with what they believe in, but I do respect what they stand for. And as long as THEY like it, they shouldn't have to kowtow to anyone. Those that don't like what they like - don''t have to go there ever in their lives.

I cannot think of a case since the 19th century or maybe earlier where a museum was directly involved in the illegitimate removal of an item.
But as the ethics behind museum collections have evolved, the necessity of ascertaining the full details behind how a seller came to possess an item, and any previous transactions back to the initial "discovery" (for lack of a better term) has become more important.
And yet there are still properties being bought and sold that were stolen from Jewish owners by the Nazi's, as well as items out of the Middle East with dubious histories.

I'm not a Christian, but I've been a fan of Hobby Lobby for quite some time. I'm a modeler, and theirs is a store that I can rely on to have what I need in order to partake in my hobbies. Now, the First Amendment to the Constitution says, "freedom of religion", but gives no context as to the meaning. The meaning is in a document called The Federalist Papers. As it turns out, freedom of religion just means the government cannot set up its own church and require every American citizen to be a practicing member. That's it. No one has the freedom to force anyone into their religion, no one has the freedom to completely shut down any religion, and no one has the freedom to force followers of a religion to engage in any activity that would be against their religious tenets. (Also, while Christianity has been the largest religion in the U.S, we're NOT a Christian nation. Any claims to this are false. "Separation of church and State" falls into this whole thing, essentially making any requirement for being in government say something along the lines of "you MUST be Christian" (some States have this requirement) to be completely illegal and a violation of the Constitution. Not sorry, Christians.) So Christians don't have the right to tell people they cannot get an abortion because their religion says it's a sin (it actually doesn't - you'll not find it in the 10 Commandments; maybe as an offshoot of "thou shalt not kill", but the Bible doesn't say "abortions are a sin" anywhere), and non-Christians don't have the right to tell Christians they have to allow abortions. Simple as that. More-so, when a privately-owned Christian-based company says, "we can't follow your propagandist mandate because it's against our religion," the government can't step in and say, "you're going to shut down anyway because we said so." And honestly, no one should have shut down. Not one business. Take a look at the events that unfolded since November 2019. There were all sorts of mandates put into place (every single one illegally, I might add) in order to "stop the spread". Guess what? It didn't work. Everything should have stayed open anyway. Here it is now, almost THREE years since c0v1d was unleashed on the world (in case you forgot, it was released by the Chinese government to quell the uprisings happening in Beijing, but it spread faster than they thought it would), and not only did "the curve" NEVER flatten, but things just kept getting worse and worse in spite of ALL of the tyrannical mandates put into affect. So in the aspect of Hobby Lobby refusing to shut down, they were right. They did the right thing there. But the museum? What the hell were they thinking, if at all? Like I said, they're the only place I can rely on to have my model supplies. You can't get model kits, paints, or tools at Walmart anymore. And Toys~R~Us doesn't exist anymore. If I can wait for shipping, I'll get my stuff online. If not, it's off to Hobby Lobby I go. Despite their wackadoo cultist cling to a religion based on lies and theft. Go ahead, look it up. You know you want to. It started out as a literal underground cult in ancient Rome. Stole EVERYTHING from all of the religions at the time in order to make conversion easier. It never would have gone farther than that if it weren't for Emperor Constantine being a huge tool and complete moron. But that's a story for another time.
