  • Exercise Rogue Ambush 21-1 is the final phase and graduation exercise of No 2 Operational Conversion Unit and No 2 Squadron operational conversion courses. It has produced the first combat-ready F-35A Lightning II pilots and co-pilots now fully capable of delivering airpower for the joint force.
    Operating out of RAAF Bases Darwin and Tindal from 15 June to 2 July 2021, Exercise Rogue Ambush provided a realistic warfighting training environment including a wide range of tactical flying activities across the Northern Territory, utilising the Tindal restricted airspace and Delamere Air Weapons Range.

    Every now and then I find myself coming back to this video. It’s a glimpse into what so many of us dream about but only the very dedicated, chosen few actually get to experience. If this doesn’t make you feel something then you don’t have a pulse. Incredible.

    Congratulations to all the ADF members in this story. It's so important in this crazy world and political climate to have a second to none Defence force. With our British, American, Canadian, New Zealander, South African, Allies and our Pacific Islander Brothers and Sisters along with Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, French Pacific Islanders, South Korea and Phillipines.......Among other NATO Countries what have we to fear now ?
    No one is an advocate of War but to believe totalitarian regimes to our North and in the Middle East will allow us peaceloving democracies to remain complacent and defenceless is naive and dangerous.
    And of course our ADF continues to provide humanitarian aid in the Pacific and South East Asia, as well as assisting in bushfires and Coronavirus Pandemic at home. And that's commendable.
    Thanks again for your service and for keeping us safe and free.

    I’m a year 9 student with some questions:
    1. What percentage of applicants become a pilot? (is it a realistic career choice)
    2. Why is fast jet pilot a “priority role” on the adf jobs website
    3. What is the difference between going through the officer aviation path and the University path?
    4. What obstacle causes the most people to fail becoming a pilot?

    • @Smokeyr67
      @Smokeyr67 Před 3 lety

      @@FairladyS130 Sorry to tell you this, but your very poorly informed. The F-35’s role is to enter high threat airspace, kill aircraft and air defences, then go home for tea and medals. It can perform every task that the F/A 18 can (and many others) with lest risk to the aircrew and aircraft. I’m not sure where you gained the information used to formulate your opinion, but I’d suggest finding a new source.

    • @FairladyS130
      @FairladyS130 Před 3 lety

      @@Smokeyr67 I hope that's not official Australian doctrine because it's inadequate. To maximumise the value of the F-35 it needs to act as a informer and director of aircraft that have the many qualities the F-35 has sacrificed for stealth eg speed, range, weapons load. Of course the F-35 can join in the fun but by itself it's capabilities would not be near fully used. If they are not going to be fully used then why did we buy it in the first place?

    • @Smokeyr67
      @Smokeyr67 Před 3 lety +1

      @@FairladyS130 The F-35 on internal weapons alone can match (actually exceed) the performance of it’s contemporaries when carrying an equivalent load.
      Go and look at the performance of say, an F-16 C when armed with 2 GBU 31’s and 2 AAMRAAM’s, with the fuel for a combat radius of 600 miles. The F’35 can do that on internal fuel and internal weapons alone.
      Comparing the legacy F-18 to the F-35 is like comparing a mullet to a marlin, sure, they both swim but that’s about all they have in common.
