In this video titled EU4 A to Z - THIS Campaign BROKE ME I do a playthrough as Hormuz in Europa Universalis 4 1.34 Lions of The North. This is the series titled A to Z where I attempt to play every* nation in EU4 in alphabetical order. Of course I had to remove some nations so the challenge doesn't get too boring. In this video I play as the nation of Hormuz and I attempt toget the Straight Talk achievement in EU4. So, let's see if I managed to do it! I hope you guys enjoy this series. The Hungarian language is strange, it’s in the uralic language group and not the indo European language group. The only other majority languages that are in the Uralic group are Estonian and Finnish so I propose that as Hungary you own all Finnish and Estonian culture provinces.
As Hungary conquer 50 livestock/grain provinces so you are not hungry anymore. alternativly only own food producing provinces.
Add some spice and salt provinces (maybe 5 each) in there as well. Can't just have bland grain or livestock, we need the seasoning
Alternatively workshops only in food provinces.
Or become the lead producer of livestock or grain, deving not allowed
As a secondary goal, conquer all of Anatolia/Turkey

I got the Strait Talk achievement while playing a pacifist Hormuz (never declared war, only diplo-vassalization, releasing vassals to get their cores back through currying favors and asking them back). It was a very interesting campaing, but also quite painful as well. I would recommend everyone to try being pacifist once though.
The recent buff to espionage so it gives flat reason to accept vassalization should be quite nice for playing pacifist. Probably not until the third idea though, because of influence first/second obviously.
What did you pick as your first non-diplo idea set? I'm thinking Innovative for cheap advisors together with Espionage and the Inno+Influence policy, so i can dev to bulk my economic base. Though with Hormuz specifically the dessert makes that a bit... 😬
how do you expand as a pacifist as such a small nation? u cant diplovassalize anyone asap so are u just stuck?

Just For Anybody's Information: The "market share" for the "trading in" bonus is about controlling trade nodes where those goods are traded, not necessarily owning/developing the provinces themselves where the good is produced.
So basically he couldve done it by transfering trade power from Siam and spamming ships there?

16:35 RED HAWK! You get the "TRADING IN" bonus by collecting at least 20% of the *trade value* coming from provinces that produce that good (and it has to be *at least 20%*), so if you had built 50,000 light ships and transferred that trade back to a node where you collect you could have gotten that without needing Kilwa. The green bar there is showing that you are "PRODUCTION LEADER" in Ivory which means you get +10% goods produced in all your Ivory provinces. You need your shield to show up under the "TRADING BONUS" header for you to know if you have actually gotten the bonus.
The market share percentage is based on how much you trade with this good. i don't know how it's calculated but I'm pretty sure if you sent a merchant in Zanzibar you would have had above 15% market share. It's a different thing to production leader.
Thats why you sometimes can have the largest market share but produce barely anything of that good.
Pretty sure it is calculated based on how much it is produced in the trade node multiplied with your share of trade power.
So either increase production (efficiency is irrelevant) where you have trade power or increase trade power where it is produced.
He probably needed to take the trade provinces rather than the ivory ones, and build market buildings.
Trade leader is the country with the largest share (at least 20% to gain it, lose it below 15%) of trade power based on the trade nodes that produce said good.
As an easy example, lets say node A produces 50% of a good, node B 30% and node C 20%. You have 50% share in node A, 10% in node B and 25% in node C. Thus you capture 25% + 3% + 5% = 33% of trade in said good.

Its a market share that you need. For exemple: even if you produce 0 slaves as Portugal, if you control the main trade notes where the production comes from you can easily get the bonus.
I like the addition of the pop-up camera for the comments.

Hey Hawk, I wasn't sure where to request this, but could you make a guide on how best to achieve the "Freest Man in the World" achievement? I'm not very familiar with the pirate republic options, but it seems like a really interesting achievement to aim for in a campaign.
"Trading in bonus - Controlling at least 20% of the global trade in a trade good will give the country a modifier "Trading in (trade good)", which gives a national bonus. (The bonus is conferred when market share reaches 20% but a country will not immediately lose the bonus when its market share drops below 20%. The country will retain the bonus as long as it maintains above 15% market share.) The market share can be found in the ledger. Control is computed using the trade power share in each node times the amount of the good produced locally in that node." eu4 wiki, mans too lazy to do a quick google search
yep hawk always confuses production leader (green line) where you get production bonus, with trading leader, where you get a bonus depending on the good you are trade leader in

Good game. This was one of the more interesting challenges as it didn't come down to bigger army diplomacy (even if you got a point from the quantity ideas).
Every time I play as the Timurids, Hormuz has already conquered almost the entirety of Arabia, allied a massive Kilwa, and are beating the Mamluk's teeth in without calling em in all by 1460. Then every time I play as Hormuz the Timurids have the best games they ever have while a gigaottoblob decides to be allied to every nation in Arabia. It's a cursed area to play, though super fun.
As Hungary conquer Estonia and Finland to unite the protouralic language group. Plus it is rather easy one for Hungary.
As Hungary, conquer/own the following places, in this order: New York for the “big apple” Athens and Constantinople for the greek love of pears, Kyoto, Beijing, and Nanking for the origin of the “Japanese Plum”, All of Brittany for the origin of the first domestic Strawberries, and lastly Nassau and all of the Lowlands to represent “oranges”. If you haven’t gotten the reference yet, your final task is to then own any jungle province, and form Croatia.
Netherlands was probably formed by Burgundy (they give their French culture provinces to France if they enact the decision)

for the market share bonuses you have to get trade power in nodes that trade in that good and not production actually, had to figure that one out for the tea denmark achievement

For the trading bonus you need depending on the trade good 15% or 20% of the trade of the trade good. The Petra in Jordan also grants +2 Diplomatic Reputation.
@15:30 ever since 1.34.3 I have seen Venice wiped off the map by the year 1500 each of the three games I played. It's interesting to see.
probably because Venice has a lot of land which isn’t their culture,
I got used to see them disappearing.
But when I did a One Faith run, I noticed them chilling on Crete very early. I had ignored them in favor of stomping the ottomans, grabbing the trade centers toward asia and of course, Deus Vult Jerusalem (very good for conversions)
So a OPM Venice ready to be vassilized so I can reconquest the strongest Early trade node I was already getting more control over?

"Trading in" bonus is calculated using percentage of trade power in nodes with the good in question being produced, you don't have to own the provinces directly. Increasing trade power by moving trade capital to Zanzibar, sending light ships to protect trade, upgrading trade centers, building marketplaces, as well as diplo dev'ing and building manufactories in ivory provinces you do own all would contribute to increasing your "trading in" share.
It's really nice to watch Hawk focus on such a complex goal instead of not giving a fck about anything :P
Ai has been calling me into wars where I lose stab as well i this patch. Its strange that they do as we cant call them in if they lose stab.

In order to get the trade bonuses you have to control, guess what, tRaDe. 🤣🤣.
You technically dont even need to own the production provinces, just gotta have a big share in the trade nodes

I may be wrong, but you may have got more ivory market share by moving your cap to the Kilwa node and collecting trade there.

typically i would say get the take that von habsburg achievement but thats pretty easy. so instead try to conquer austria and recreate the size of the habsburg empire at its peak.
I wasn't aware this achievement even existed, guess I know what my next campaign is gonna be now. Hopefully the Ottoblob doesn't misbehave too much.
Probably my one of my favorite nations an eu4. I enjoy converting to Ibadi early and expanding down the Swahili coast or playing tall.
I enjoy converting all to Ibadi and push down the Swahili coast. The only sad thing about that part of Africa and Middle East is that every country's path is exactly the same.
Leading producer is not the same thing as trading in. You can be trading in something without producing any of it it is flowing through your trade nodes.

GG, Hawk. I did this about a month ago. I decided to keep playing after getting the achievement because it was alot of fun. After helping the Ottomans wipe out the Mamluks, they got greedy and wanted two of my provinces. So I "appeased" them and gave it to them, but they turned into the Ottowamens and the bloodsuckers wanted more and more! Naturally, I refused, so they broke their alliance with me, DOWed me, and beat me over the head with a rolling pin. Oh well, at least I got the achievement.
P.S. Did you take the mission for the diplo rep that you were saving up from the beginning or did you forgor again?

I actually did this run sort of recently, and was allied to both the Ottoman's and Mamluk's the entire time somehow. Kinda cursed I guess. Also timmy blew up and I took basically all their land, I was pretty big.
to have a commercial bonus, you need to trade 20% of the total good, not only producing it
if you don't put a marchand in the trade center, it doesn't count as your trade
As Hungary:
- fulfill the dream of Mathias Hunyadi and become HRE emperor. Own all of Bohemia and Austria. Institutionalize the black army.
- return to your roots and conquer eastern Europe. Protect the independence of Finnland and Estonia.
- go nationalistic and prevent the peace treaty of Trianon (PTT) by magyarising the nationalities of the Carpathians
- go republican and prevent the PTT by protecting and accepting all cultures of your country. Play tall.
- go insane and turn to Sunni. Ally the Ottomans and bring Islam to western Europe
- go rediculous and colonize. Make the most incomprehensible language of Europe the most spoken language of the world.
As Hungary colonize Australia and Proclaim Australia-Hungary!

1. reverse australia hungary - as hungary, have your capital in australia
2. make the whole habsburg monarchy disappear.
As Oman restore the Omani Empire to its peak and beyond. As they were the first Arabs in America as well, take exploration as your first idea.
Trading In comes from dominating the trade nodes where the good is produced. You don't need to actually produce it.

You forgot about Baluchistan way of expansion... And also you could support Transoxianian independence and get some provinces from Timurids.
Austro-Hungarian Empire, but the other way around. Vassalize Austria, and then become head of the HRE. Centralize it if you're feeling really insane.

Here we go again:
For Germiyan in releasables you should do nothing and improve realtions with Mamuluks and hope they will support your independence, they didn't want to in my first run, but in second they did, probably because they were bordering the Ottomans. If you royal marry the ottomans go restart. Once you get Mamuluks to support your independence you should either wait for them to fight someone in the balkans or declare immediately because they will placate your rulers to get you under 50 liberty desire. You may want to make a backup save for war just so you don't have to do a full restart if Mamuluk ai trolls you, also if Ottomans ally Tunis you should probably restart or go all in with mercs to try to hold out until Mamuluks deal with Tunis(although you'll probably go bankrupt this way). Once you win the war you should take Gelibolu, Constantinople, whatever you can in north Anatolia and war reparations and stay as far away from Mamuluks as long possible because you are still not strong enough to fight them and you won't need any allies because you'll still be surrounded by the Ottomans. After that you'll probably fight theodoro, crimea, georgia or circassia depending on their allies and then probably even more weakened Ottomans if Austria got Hungary and declared on them, otherwise you wait until Mamuluks declares on the Ottomans and if the Ottomans declare on you then mercs and debt it is, after that second war you should start looking for allies to prevent Mamuluks and Austria from declaring on you and the rest is up to you. Trading in goods has nothing to do with your production of them. It's about how much trade power you have in the trade nodes where they are produced.
