    Just got my scan and cut yesterday, so this video was perfect. I upgraded from my older 6 needle to a 10 needle last year and was surprised and the differences in screens and the learning curve involved. Exasperated by my desire to use Durkee frames instead of the standard hoops. So it was a bonus to watch you walk through how to use your machine. I do like how you hooped the stabilizer and floated the material. I may need to reconsider using the standard hoops (I hate hooping which is why I like the durkee - used the fast frames exclusively on my 6 needle). I use embrilliance also but I’m new to appliqué (hoping the scan and cut will open up this for me. I hate trimming around the pieces and was limited to my Accuquilt designs). So this new software in conjunction with embrilliance intrigues me. It was refreshing to see you use all the items I have. I learned some great tips. Thank you for a very detailed project. Now off I go to your blog to download this great project. Thank you for your generosity in sharing your knowledge. PS, I’m also a military spouse of a retiree who RV’s part time!

    Hi there! I love love love how you show step by step in every detail beginning to end. I'm never left guess bits and pieces. Plus, you have videos on both the embroidery machine and the scan and cut. Though I only have a 4x4 hoop. So, i am wondering how I could do bigger embroidery using my machine and if that is possible. How? I have watched other utube videos but still don't understand it very well. Since your videos I truly can learn from I am hoping that you might put one out. By the way I am super new to all of this as of a month ago and really haven't stitched too much out. trying to learn as much as possible first, including how to use a computer. From watching your utube I now can download n move file as well as find them! thanks so much a true fan.

    The new fabric mat is meant to be used with unbonded fabric, according to the Brother website, you can use your regular mat and blade for bonded fabric, cut it with HNB backing paper removed, and put it HNB side down on the mat no need to flip then either hope that helps

    • @PowerToolsWithThread
      @PowerToolsWithThread  Před 3 lety

      I haven't tried cutting without a backing on the fabric. Fabric needs to be made as much like paper as possible prior to cutting which is why it must be firmly stabilized. If the HNB side goes down without the paper, it will pull the HNB off the fabric and ruin the mat when I try to pull it off. I made that mistake using a FSS.

    • @applelover53
      @applelover53 Před 3 lety

      @@PowerToolsWithThread Hi no if you use a standard mat (with no extra high tack support sheet) and put the bonded fabric HNB side down onto the mat and cut with a standard blade it cuts perfectly every time and removes from the mat no problem. Ive cut fabric that way for years with the SNC. If you want to cut un bonded fabric then the new fabric mat and fabric auto blade(gold top) work great, again no extra high tack support sheet needed, the fabric blade is different to the standard blade and its made specifically for un bonded fabric. give it try and see loads of videos on my channel

    You had me going for a while there when you were making an appliqué for “Happiness is” ....I couldn’t envision how the edge stitching would work.....but then you changed it to using embroidery lettering instead. You did that on purpose, didn’t you. Lol Teaching moment. Thanks for the design!

    • @PowerToolsWithThread
      @PowerToolsWithThread  Před 3 lety +2

      I was "this close" to stitching it on as applique but really the only hard part would be ironing on the letters to the fabric. I'd be over an hour hunched at the ironing board with a wand iron to precisely place the letters in the placement lines for those tiny pieces, so yes, a teaching moment. Not my idea of fun when stitching the letters is easier. When I have tiny stuff like that, I choose the Run or Bean stitch in Simply Applique and it works perfectly to create a raw edge applique look. But...not today. LOL

    • @marilynm.329
      @marilynm.329 Před 3 lety +1

      Ok .... now you’ve intrigued me.... I thought the appliqué letters were joined in one piece...and you would just plonk it on... I’ll have to do a trial on appliqué lettering and see which could work better for me ( depending on the size and font of the letters) hmmm !

    • @PowerToolsWithThread

      I love the magnetic core bobbins in Spanky. I did recently have a need for a colored bobbin to match the backing so I just filled a regular bobbin with other thread. It did pretty well. Thank you! Not only is it cute but it’s the first time I have used my new scan n cut and work space. You made it super easy. Why does everyone put the fabric face down? I’ve cut face up with iron on facing mat without issues on my 350.

    • @PowerToolsWithThread
      @PowerToolsWithThread  Před 2 lety +1

      I really think face up or face down has to do with the stickiness of the mat. I've used face up with HNB on the back on my gold mat, but it had lost about 50% of its sticky. So if your purple mat is super new sticky, then face down/paper side up. Low tack teal mat, face up/HMB side down works fine. That's what I do.

    Question about the new gold fabric mat. I believe I recall you said on the quilt festival video that the gold fabric mat could only be used on the DX225 machine. I checked the Brother website and it says for all DX series machines. So I think I can use it on my DX125. Also I had a while back purchased a 12x24 cutting mat, which I carefully checked at the time and it could be used on my 125. I think I'm getting confused as to what I can and cant use. I confess I have barely used it a t all, but plan to work on it more very soon. Can you clarify what is compatible for the DX125?

    • @PowerToolsWithThread
      @PowerToolsWithThread  Před 3 lety

      Hi Anne, that gold fabric mat can be used with ALL DX series machines. It can't be used with the other CM series machines. The numbers after DX (SDX85, 125, 225, 230, etc.) only mean that there are differences between the files inside the machines and the accessories that come with it. But the CADXMAT** mats fit all DX machines. The CADXMAT code is in the bottom corner of the mat to identify it. Hope that helps. :)

    Hi becky, i have simply appllique as i didnt need the whole bes4 program but i was wondering do you ever get stitches that dont form after pressing convert, inside the v parts of a w or inside a v ... mine does it and i dont understand why grrrrr .... also is your sewing machine still available to download hehe

      Oh yes, I've had that happen. It's an inconsistent error so I'd call it a software bug. That's the reason I also use Embrilliance Stitch Artist 2 to fix that one part when it happens. It happens in BES4 as well because when it fails in SA I've taken it to BES4 with the same results. If you're doing a multi-pieced design, like it did on one of the Christmas trees on the gnome tree farm pillow, I have had success to convert just the one piece on another screen, (if it will), and the copy/paste that one part into the original design. If it just won't, then I'll end up using my domestic machine for the final stitch on just that part of the design. Frustrating I know. When it works, it's amazing. But when that happens...(sigh) very frustrating. And it's only for the blanket stitch.

    I notice you use lots of Designs by juju - I want to take advantage of the $1.00 sales that ends tomorrow midnight- Please give me some names of your beautiful fonts that you purchased from her that would get lots of use. I am new to your channel and love your teaching skills. Thank you 😊

    Can you add the lettering from BES4 instead of Embrilliance?

      Yes you can! But I prefer to do lettering in Embrilliance and use BX fonts. It's just so much easier.

    i want a scanNcut. i hate the design space for Cricut. what i need to know for sure is Does the ScanNcut add seam allowances to designs and not just shapes. i have some applique to do and i want to turn the edges under but i dont want to trace and add seam allowances individually for 100 pieces. thanks for your videos

      @PowerToolsWithThread  Před 3 lety

      Yes, it certainly does! If you do needle-turn applique, the SNC is perfect for that to cut all your pieces and give you a customized seam allowance to fold over. This video shows she's using an air soluble pen, cut the SNC pen holder will also hold a Frixion marker as well so you can iron off the mark. This video is for the old 650 model instead of the new DX models, but the process is the same. Be sure to test first! czcams.com/video/7YEgb-M2arg/video.html

    Why did u cut it off b4 lettering stitches were done?
    U usually hold it up after it’s done so we can see it finished?

    Becky Is it possible to cut the sewing machine and heart without Simply applique? Love your videos.

    • @PowerToolsWithThread
      @PowerToolsWithThread  Před 2 lety

      Yes, it's an svg file so you can cut it on any cutting machine. I think it will print out if you don't have a cutting machine. Then you could trace it to the back of some fabric.
