The df03 dark impact (white edition) I've just built came with tyre inserts so I'm thinking it probably did come with inserts! The one thing that the df03 chassis has a problem with is lack of space! It should have never been called the avante but in saying that it is a good chassis overall!👍
The Avante was originally a competitive 4wd car. It had lots of very high grade parts. So, I do not understand this car the Avante Mk.II. The Avante was not competitive for very long. Yokomo released a 4wd car that was better. Also, Team Associated released a 4wd car too. The Team Associated car was a Yokomo car. The Team Associated car was called the YZ-10. The Yomomo car was called the Dog Fighter. Both of these cars are hard to find and are rare. I do think the Avante comical car looks like fun. I think I will pick one up.
The Avante has traditionally been the most radical buggy with the best materials. But that’s long ago, I guess Avante now is a style. I’m OK with it...
I agree The Avante name should’ve had the top and most advanced chassis. That being said, just because it brands the Avante name, it still must be apart of the collection on that perspective alone.
Got a Dark Impact recently and upgrades are few and far between nowadays. There used to be some nice alloy and carbon uprights available but I can't find any. A must have is to replace the rear drive outputs with metal ones the same as are used in the front.
Like the new shirt! The DF-03 is a pretty neat chassis, but I don’t think Tamiya should have put the Avante name on it. I would love to see them come out with a new advanced design that pushes the envelope. Looking forward to a bright future for RC Kicks!
Hi Gavin. Loving the vids. Mainly watched the Tamiya Legends stuff as I've got into this hobby over the last 18 months but spreading my wings a bit now! I have a DF03 Dark Impact and it does come with foam inserts for the tires. Agree, it's not a proper Avante. Not owned an Avante, but from what I see and hear its main thing is being really over engineered with loads of metal components. The DF03 drives great but is generic plastic Tamiya, nothing overly special. Keep up the great work! EV
Also a DF03MS and DF03ra - Personally it could have been a real Mk2 if it launched the chassis with all the hop ups and the Dark Impact then followed but in fact it just a re-bodied Dark Impact.
It does feel that way. Maybe a simple change and releasing the Avante first with like you say a load of upgrades before then releasing the Dark Impact would have worked better.
Great vid as usual. As I've only just got into RC sounds like the original was a top end product, this just looks like most other basic tamiya buggy kits to me. Nothing too special about it. So agree with you they should have done something a bit more special to use the Avante name.
Well Gavin for me it’s not an Avante. However it’s quite nice for what it is. Again like the comical maybe we should not to hung up on the fact it says Avante on the box.. If want one try and find one. If not no harm done!!!!!!!
The Avante chassis was developed for being competitive in racing and other cars were spawned from that, this has gone the other way by utilising an existing chassis and slapping the Avante name on it. I am not saying it's not good because at the end of the day the original Avante pretty much failed at what it was developed for anyway but it is a work of art and just looks stunning while the mk2 is just some plastic like many others cars out there..
I’d most definitely like to see Tamiya do more high end kits. For ex: Evo versions of existing kits perhaps. I would pay the asking price, but granted I know .. it most definitely wouldn’t suit everyone. I believe though that, having those special carbon, titanium, alloy high end top notch racing kits, are what makes a brand important. They may be unaffordable to some, but it gets people aiming high, and saving their money to get one. Once they have it, they have the best. Tamiya did it before, and there was no shortage of custom. It’s like anything... Rolex make the best watches & Ferrari make the best cars ( arguably ) Id love to be able to say “ Tamiya make the best rc’s. although I suppose that using Ferrari and Rolex for an example, is on a completely different level of unaffordable lol.
Will be cool to see the DF03 built, never seen one before. I do quite like the body on this, looks pretty cool. It is a shame that the Avante name has been used on a lesser kit though. I often wonder if we will ever get a DF-04, a new dedicated off-road buggy chassis from Tamiya. That’d be cool.
Hi Gavin been a sub for about a month, have to say Tamiya stuff is not really my interest guess I came into the hobby too late. However I love watching your content and your love for hobby is infectious and real joy to watch. I enjoy the history you research for each model and is great. I always look forward see what you have next. Who knows one day I may even buy a Tamiya. Anyway great stuff. Thanks for sharing.
This was my car back into RC & it's ok, suspension arms arm tight not much play due to pins & e clips. But think I would prefer neo scorcher. It's no Avanti. I've got a few hop ups but won't be spending anymore on it.
I know alot of westerners debating about this being the next step in Avante line, given the name mk.II. But the name actually came from mini 4WD car, which is the real mk.II for that era, being mid engine double shafted all. You guys need to see outside RC world to understand the avante naming. Super Avante is the only MODERN one released in RC form first.
It's funny because tamiya released the neo fighter which is clearly a newer version of the old frog space frame chassis yet they didn't name it the frog mk 2. They take a common df series chassis that has nothing in common with avante and name it mk 2 lol. Strange
There's nothing wrong with the DF-03, but it isn't "special" like an Avante should be. I would have been OK with it if they put it on the heavily upgraded DF-03 MS chassis.
In my opinion, this could have forgiven for not having its own unique chassis if it had come hopped up more out of the box, for example, gold alloy TRF shocks and carbon shock towers. I mean eventually, the Avante chassis was no longer exclusive to that model after the Egress and other variants.
Doesn’t appear to be anything special, seems like one of those cars you get to complete your collection. Probably will be a fun easy build though. I haven’t found any tamiya’s that aren’t fun to build . Keep up the good work Gavin .
Love the channel. Please keep up the content. Like to watch the channel in the mornings while having my coffe. Just a quick question have you ever checked out the team Durango line of buggies and trucks really nice engineering and tuneablity. Sadly they are no longer are around.
Still on the cards but its fallen down the list a bit. As soon as a window opens up, I will continue with the build. It's half filmed currently and as a mod project it will 100% work as intended.
Just managed to get one of these nib but paid a fair wack for it but I'm excited and actually like it - it is an Avante although not in a vintage sense! Just badly need a Avante 2001 and an Aero now to complete my collection. Can't find either anywhere tho 😥
The hard to find Avante family cars are not what you might expect from the off. Avante 2001, Avante Mk2, Aero Avante and Vajra tend to be the hardest to find currently for me.
Hi. Could you tell me where you got this kit please. I prefer the Avante body to the Dark Impact and would like it to complete my DF collection. Thank you very much 😊👍
Seems like every company eventually does this with their flagship line at some point - I wish they wouldn’t but so it goes. Too bad, the car itself looks pretty cool to me!
i would not consider it an avante , like you said the brand was brought to the chassis , it's not got the authenticity to be branded an avante ... my ten pence worth
unfortunately this avante was never really designed to be a viable competitive race buggy, unlike the original avante, except in japan where they race all models like the lunchbox and the farm tractor when all racers are running the same vehicle the racing is fair, competitive and super fun. The avante name is strictly for marketing and I would not assume this model has anything to do with the original avante. but for tamiya collectors this kit is a must have.
See this is part of the thing. As a more modern buggy it could well out perform a vintage Avante so on that basis it's a better RC car. Knowing that, would you then not think it's well entitled to be called an Avante? For me it just doesn't feel special enough, partly I guess because its on a chassis designed for other cars. That and all the plastic in the box.
@@RCKickschannel yes gav i agree on the dedicated chassis and parts so its down to the individual and what you want from the car i dont yet own a original so i cant compare when you have done the build a side by comparison will be great to see
Tamiya lost me with many of these kits I’m just not a fan of the architecture of these kits or their spin offs. I suppose it’s all in the fun of RC, and zipping the thing around the yard. That said I’d rather have a Grasshopper or Hornet in that case as opposed to this complicated clockwork of plastic. I remember in the 80’s when the HotShot was introduced and I watched the progression of four wheel drive buggies from Tamiya, and then there was Kyosho the nemesis of anything Tamiya I’m not going there...Lol
Avante should die as a car. I have a 88 car and it is good cos came with nice motor and the metal pats. On a separate note may I ask you a question I have a ta01 chassis car and it has a 12t motor in it but the motor does not alway run. Only if i push the car it will run again. My question is that I can replace the motor for £17.05 with absima 12t but also same price the absima 8t. What should I get seeing as it is a ta01 with rally wheels. Thank you and i like your videos.
RCKicks A1 where it joins to the tub. Practically a whole new rear end rebuild. I've got so many A3 parts in my stairs from having to buy this. Same at the front to be honest gone through some B1s and again it's the whole diff and suspension that has to come off.
Probably going to upset the Tamiya Gestapo but I have to say... As far as design of new cars Tamiya has gone steadily downhill since the end of the 90's. Maybe the TRF stuff is good but what has Tamiya put out that's on the same level as the Avante or super Astute? The only cars that still excite me are the re release kits. Seems like everything else is bag after bag of plastic. Same plastic chassis with 10 different bodies. I like RC for the engineering. If I'm buying a kit that's hard to distinguish from a Revel model as far as plastic content, someone is wrong. And I know you can do all sorts of improvement with hop ups but who wants to buy a kit then spend another kits worth of cash to make it good? Maybe I'm wrong but tamiya's kits like the Avante mk 2 are a big disappointment. The Avante name deserves more thought than they gave this one.
