- In this video I will be removing the front Cowl Panel section to inspect the rust in the Plenum section. Opened up a can of worms with this one but glad I did as it was a lot worse than I had thought.
Thanks for Watching. - Auta a dopravní prostředky
Cheers for showing the windscreen disaster, I would not have had the guts to post it and it means we all get to learn from your mistake, probably saved me the cost of a new windscreen.
Haha no dramas at all mate. I think the correct way would be to use wire or it should have wire underneath that you short on a battery and it heats up. Prob just best left to the pros haha
Hay man should have asked on the hq - wb pages about your window
You hook 12v power up to the two wires you had hanging out the drivers side .
It heats up the glue and you just lift it up after about 20 mins .
Old timers trick
Thanks mate will have to remember for next time. Thanks for the tip
Yep done that many times with my old man. Old School Panel Beater and Spray Painter.
I was going to ask about using the 12v trick, but you beat me to it.
When taking out the window you run wire between the window and the body to break the seal, that's what I did and popped it out
Thanks for the heads up. I will have to try that next time. I was defs thinking after I should of done that.
A new windscreen will be mint anyway. Stuff it, don’t worry about Sam.
Yeah Mate I agree. All good....
Awesome man, love your work. Seen some pretty bodge work before but that having those sections glued in is something very different... damn
Thanks mate. Yeah I was a bit surprised on what I found. At least it will be done properly now.
Mate i used a stanly knife and extended the blade out about one inch and just took my time splicing. With a bit of care it can be done, you just have to be careful is all.
Cheers for the heads up Mate. Next time I will give that a go like you say.
Guitar wire is the trick. Also heard of plain steel wire heated up with a torch, to melt the sealant/rubber as you go.
Thanks for the advice
Mate, what an absolute pain in the arse. And a mess. Hoping mine doesn't need to come off but it's one of the main issues with these things so probably should just for good measure. Another great vid mate.
As you mention, you can use wire or if it was melted in, find the ends of the wire running around the windscreen and heat it up with a powersupply and reverse the install of it.
Yeah I know mate. It was very disappointing to see that it was repaired like that. Ok thanks for the advice. I will have to try that next time....
the window trim on my hz ute slid out. if it hasn't been taken out in a while it can be sticky but if you look on the backside of the trim there should be channels.
Thanks for the advice.
Fishing line brother works mean!
Yes I should of tried that. Thankyou
Not saying on how to do your job but my recommendation is not to weld in the fire wall holes bc it’s never done right and can turn into a massive massive job, there’s a plate you can buy that gm produced that covers the heater hole that was for northern Australian cars
Thanks for the advice. I know the ones you mean but I just dont like the look of them. I like that smooth firewall look but I will have to have a think about it.
Proper build 🍻
These things deserve it.
@@ShenkeGarage Kenoath.
How good is it removing the cowl and plenum, such a crap job. Mine was just as bad, held together with coke cans, sikaflex, plastic bags and heaps of bog. The rest of my cab is no better, think it came from a swamp haha.
Haha I agree. That sucks what you found underneath. Once you start pulling stuff apart its like opening a can of worms.
Snap on makes a tool to remove the windows.
Thanks for the heads up
I have one if you ever need to borrow it.. more than happy.
Made a good mess of your ID tags
Yeah just the one. Accidently touched it with the wire wheel. Should be able to fix it up.
Just saw that! OMG!
Hey Sam mate just wondering if you still have the upper cowl as well mate I'd be interested in that as well
Yeah Mate I have the Cowl piece aswell
I reckon these cowls/scuttles are the weirdest deigned things in cars even to this day, why why would you route water through a chamber that you can't get inside EASILY is beyond me
Yeah Mate I agree. I wonder is there is a way of modifying it to make it a better design. Im sure someone will do it one day.
@@ShenkeGarage I've seen a few cars (like 80's gemini) where the entire vent was welded shut, then the stock drains are left there, so no water is allowed down inside in the first place, but im not engineer so it might be worse, i've seen some cars where the bonnet tract is where it drains, just like a tail gate in a wagon
bloody hate the dogs breakfast
Haha now got to clean it up
