  • Bentlee is here for our board and train program to work on his obedience, manners and overall calmer and more reliable training.
He came in pulling like a little mad man and putting all of his effort into dragging the person on the other end of the leash around.
This is NOT good for Bentlee who could injure himself putting that much pressure on his neck and trachea. You can hear the signature raspy, strangled choking breaths we see far too often with dogs who pull on their leash and collar.
We introduced Bentlee to the Herm Sprenger prong training collar, (size 2.25) and began working on his understanding of giving to pressure and not pulling on the leash.
After some work and repetitions teaching him how to give to the pressure from the leash and prong collar (instead of leaning in and pulling harder as he did previously on leash and martingale collar), we started shaping that he would find the "pressure free zone" next to our left leg.
Shaping that he walk with us at our pace using pressure and release and guiding him back to our leg.
Then we were able to start working on his structured walk and begin showing him how to walk more politely instead of dragging us around and frantically pulling on the leash.
