  • We introduced Gunnar to the prong collar to start working on better leash manners and walking behavior.
We started, like we do with all of the dogs (but especially puppies), building focus and engagement through earning food when he first arrived.
Although his ability to work with us and stay focused on training has improved immensely, we know food alone won’t create the greatest results for our goals with Gunnar.
We have already been introducing him to pressure and release through the slip lead and obedience work in low distraction environments.
It was easy to see when we were outdoors how much of that newly earned focus could get lost if he decided he didn’t want our food. This is something we see a lot of with dogs and puppies and we know often times food alone does not always work.
Gunnar showed no problems with pulling and leaning into his flat collar and the slip leash when he got distracted or determined about something.
Rather than have him practice leash pulling, potentially hurt himself or drag us around choking we decided he was ready to be introduced to the prong training collar.
He quickly started to figure it out and pay better attention with very little pressure / release work needed.
The prong collar will be great to keep his neck safe from injury and offer effective ways to guide and reinforce Gunnar for walking and training.
