Looks delicious Greg. As an Aussie, this is good, but its missing pineapple, and a fried egg. Usually an Aussie burger consists of a patty, fried onions, beetroot, lettuce, bacon, pineapple and a fried egg. We use ketchup also not a BBQ sauce, In saying that, this is not your recipe, its one sent to you, and you killed it, that burger looks magnificent. Nice job.
+FitAnge S Thanks Angie. Yeah, actually sent to my by one of my Aussie subs. I can see that most people like to see pineapple and egg on top, but living in an area that loves their burgers I personally don't have a problem with alterations. I was actually considering making two burgers, one with pineapple and egg and the second without. But, my wife stepped out, so one of the burgers would have gone to waste. This nine said, I don't think I would have wanted this burger to be any richer than it was. Egg yolks from two eggs and caramelized pineapple would have been good but, wow... Very rich!
Ballistic BBQ I hear you and yes the pineapple does really make it rich, but I tell you, its so delicious and brings on a massive difference in flavour. Never the less, I loved it and great video Greg. Cant please everyone right :)
Big thumbs up from an Aussie here!! I see a lot of Aussie's below mentioning that there's no egg or pineapple, personally not a fan of either.. So for me, you hit the nail on the head!! We usually call this burger a beef burger/hamburger with cheese & bacon. For all those doubting the beetroot, give it a go. It definitely makes it!!
Needed an egg but got it right with the beetroot. Hard to have a burger without it once you've tried it. Also no-one in Australia drinks Fosters haha. Awesome video 😄
Nice, looks really luxurious. How we do it in our shop (16 years now) From bottom working our way up to the top: Standard 4 or 5 inch bakers bun Lettuce Tomato Beetroot Beef Patty Cheese (melted of course) Bacon (not crispy generally, just well caramelised) Pineapple ring (grilled) Soft Fried Egg (not super runny, yolk should flow like condensed milk) Grilled brown onion Tomato Sauce (Ketchup) Bun lid (Sesame Seed) This is what we call a 'Hamburger with the Lot' although since this one has pineapple, its called a 'Superburger' in our store. People who buy it most are tradespeople or truck drivers and construction workers. Although Police and office folk tend to enjoy it as a treat, the hands on workers will eat it a few times a week since they are burning off the calories in their jobs. The ratio of customers who want pineapple in our store is about 1 in 6, which correlates to the people who want BBQ sauce instead of Tomato Sauce, also 1 in 6. Another very common alternative is to replace the burger patty with a deep fried crumbed butterflied chicken snitzlel and add Aioli to the bottom. You gotta use a high quality brand snitzel or make your own (best) as those processed ones can be about as bad as a McNugget. Eww! What constitutes an Aussie Hamburger with The Lot differs accross the country, and with the recent USA style burger 'craze' I think will change the face of the classic Aussie Hamburger with The Lot. I mean 5 years ago, there was no such thing as a 'Brioche Bun'. Good times ahead eh? Love your videos mate! Aaron.
the aussie burger or burger with the lot is exactly what yours is.... although the pineapple is always an extra hence the superburger name. PS i disagree with your claim that burgers with the lot differ across the country.... even in the middle of nowhere they are the same as above in every state...once again with the pineapple being an optional extra.
pleeeeease tell me (and no-one else ;) ) what flavours do you add to the meat pattie. do you mix with sausage mince? there seems to be a common taste at many fish n chip shops and they are NOT just plain beef mince.
As an Australian I can actually explain to you why this burger exists. It is the burger that the hardworking blue collar man eats on his lunch break to get energy for the rest of the day, and that is it. American burgers and all there styles you can preach about there purity but at the end of the day they are not substantial enough to support someone who is working hard labour for 12 hours a day. That’s what the Aussie burger is. Bread, meat, bacon, egg, beetroot, possibly pineapple (if you actually have no taste) and a big substantial salad between the bun that gives you energy to finish the day.
Do one of the most common australian foods in summer. This can be found at one of the big hardware stores each weekend. The Sausage Sizzle. Very simple, Very tasty Slice of bread, Sausage, caramelized onions, tomato sauce or BBQ sauce Butter a slice of bread, cook the sausage and onion, place sausage diagonally, add onions on top, add your sauce, fold at the corners. Enjoy.
+85ddrummer I just go for the sausage sizzle on both saturday and sunday. Money goes to charity so why not? I normally have 3. XD, I'm a fat little fox
+IIGrayfoxII Sounds a lot like an Italian sausage sandwich without the peppers. I can only imagine the sausage is different but I'm sure its just as awesome
Thanks for exposing it to the world. Now down here in Melbourne pineapple is always an extra (so very optional) but the egg is how you folks out it 'easy over'. Served mainly through fish and chip shops knowledge of a good burger maker is gold. Thanks for the material Greg you have definitely educated me on many many things meat and BBQ
Thanks for doing an Aussie burger! Only things missing were pineapple slice and a fried egg! But honestly a very common interpretation of an Aussie burger that we find here in Australia. Thumbs up! I might even send you my special sauce recipe to try, it's kind of amazing. Thanks Greg!
Almost got it right, beer on the onions to caramelize them and what's with the "Garlic Aioli" add a nice runny fried egg. Aioli is a bit posh for an "aussie burger" right on the money with the rest. The mainstay of my youth was the egg, cheese bacon and onion burger with tomato and beetroot (and maybe a grilled pineapple ring) from the local fish and chip shop.
Another fabulous burger recipe Greg. I've never heard of Georgia Sauce, so I'll have to check it out. I loved that shot at the beginning where you dropped the ribeye steak and next thing we see is the meat coming out of the grinder!!! Great editing brother!!! Cheers!
All the ingredients in the burger I love.. You made me laugh when you said French Fries!!! I follow your techniques when I make burgers. Thanks for all the educational and entertaining videos and Congrats on your trophy from CZcams!!! Cheers
Aussie who's lived in america here. There are some differences between american and australian staples which change the taste quite a lot. Our buns have nowhere near as much sugar as yours, and our cheese is much less buttery and much more sharp. This is why we can do beetroot and bbq sauce (and often a pineapple ring) without making it too sweet. Also your bacon should probably be more crispy, and for an authentic aussie burger you really do need an egg on there. And you're meant to say aussie in the same way you guys would say Ozzy Osbourne :P
There is a restaurant here in the San Fernando Valley Los Angeles area, it is called Outlaw's cafe. They have this signature burger that is stuff with blue cheese. Look it up, I bet you can find it on yelp. The owner is also really friendly so I dont think he will mind if you ask about the burger. You can likely use yelp to find Outlaws Cafe. It is on Van Nuys.
As an Aussie - pretty much spot on, not much you can do about the different bacon over there! Burger joints over here do serve up bad boys just like that! Good job
Ride on mate! Respect for smashing out an Aussie Burger! In Australia if you go to the local shop and ask for a "burger with the lot" typically you'll get this with the addition of a fried egg and also a slice of canned pineapple they grill whilst grilling the burger itself. It's a monster, but very unique and quite tasty :) You know it's an Aussie burger when you bite into it and the piping hot pineapple burns you right away :D Aioli isn't typical but an interesting twist
That is the very best burger i have ever tried. All my friends where totally excited. We love the aussie burger and will never make a different one at home (ok maybe a pulled porc burger once in a while)
Dude, you killed it. Perfect aussie burger. Thats exactly how we eat em. Only a knob would order it with garlic aioli though. Just isn't the same with the beetroot. Well done. PS. if you want to take your onions to the next level put some beer on them while you're cooking them ... the beer steams them a bit and caramelizes as well (thats an aussie secret).
Nice job! Others mentioned egg and pineapple - they are usually optional extras, especially pineapple. Some like it, some don't. Usually if it has bacon, beetroot, fried egg, pineapple is referred to as a burger "with the lot"
looks like a great burger Greg, but as other Aussie viewers have posted, a standard Australian takeaway/corner store burger (with the lot) is: shredded iceberg lettuce, tomato, beetroot, fried egg, pineapple ring, tomato sauce/ketchup and definitely not American cheese. we usually have tasty cheese which is just mild white cheddar. edit: forgot bacon. short cut bacon is usually the meat round part from the full rasher. it generally has no fat.
Good call mate, from an aussie living in canada, gotta have the egg too! will be making a classic aussie works burger for my french father in law on the weekend! Hope i can do us justice and he loves them. wish me luck!
Looks terrific Gregg! I lived in a remote mining town in Australia for a while, and they only ever cooked snags. I could have done with one of these just to change the pace a little!
Sup Greg, I have made this version with cattleman's BBQ sauce and was real good, and made again a couple times and other burgers with my pickled beets 👍, every year even make a beet relish, all from the inspiration lol. Tyvm tc 🍔
That brings back memories but, you forgot the over easy egg. The look on my Dads face when he bit in to his first Aussie Burger with the works. Priceless.
Want. I want this. I WANT THIS! NOW! I love grapeseed oil because it doesn't breakdown as fast. I heard that if your oil breaks down from heat it can be bad for you but I don't know much about that.
Greg! Happy New Year! Delicious recipe. Beets on a Burger, it could be a movie. Nice to see your loyalty to local brewing, like I am to Sierra Nevada in Chico California. I feel inspired to send you a recipe. Let me give it a think. Thank you again for a year of delicious video's.
Lovely burger but here is Australia we would also put a fried egg on top of the bacon, egg slightly runny. The sauce should go on top of the egg or beef and the beetroot on top of the tomato, lettuce last. Makes all the difference! That's what we call a burger with the lot. Ohhh it helps to put a little mayo on bun next to the lettuce!! Mmmmmm enjoy!
Luke - you gave the man a burger recipe without the pineapple...mate, that is sacrilegious. BUT what's more you have seriously, without a doubt, broken the cardinal rule of the Aussie Burger: "Thy Burger Must Be Served With A Fried Runny Egg."
Glad to see you use a REAL oil around the grill instead of the canola oil. Ever seen a canola plant Ballistic BBQ? Grape seed oil is a really good choice...Avocado oil even better. Thumbs up
Great job Greg! I agree with the sentiment of other commenters about the pineapple and egg, but this looks bloody fantastic. Don't get too hung up on the lack of fosters either - no one drinks that shit here haha
Kudos to you for trying an Australian burger. I love many of the American burgers for their straightforward delicious flavours but as an Australian the explosion of different flavours from our burgers is an itch I must scratch from time to time. As you stated there are many variations of the burger and for me the fried egg is missing in this case. Also the sauce variations. You can use just ketchup, ketchup and mayonnaise, tomato sauce, tm and mayo or bbq sauce on its own or with mayo. The bun is usually a bakery fresh one of the appropriate size for the burger you wish to put together. Brioche buns while delicious would generally be considered a “ wanky” choice but if you like it no worries. You can also add grated carrot, grilled pineapple slices or pretty much any additional ingredients you think would work. As to the tinned beetroot they aren’t all created equal. Generally you wouldn’t want one with too many earthy flavours. It needs too have that sweet sour balance with a touch of earthiness and it basically just replaces your kind of pickled gherkin etc with our pickled beetroot. That’s my take on Australian burgers but most importantly just make it the way you like it. #norulesburgers 👍
As an aussie I need to point out all aussie burgers have egg and sometimes pineapple on them. It is rare to have beetroot (and ruins the burger in most peoples opinion.) But the egg is a must. Also normally we use tomato sauce (similar to your ketchup without as much sugar) and never BBQ sauce. People online always seem to put beets on an aussie burger, but so where really sells or makes them like that here. All our burger joints do egg though.
woah! some grinder! Not the STX - per past mention. Always appreciate your work - inspirational. Still waiting to find you marketing that special grill component (s) for the weber...
You're welcome Scott. I'll be visiting soon to do a remote video with you, so get ready. My car is running, ready to travel. We are testing your sauces out..
Thank you so much for not using that awful pepper thing. The Texan in me rages because we love our black pepper! Also, love that Damascus steel blade. Love your channel!
+mr75204 LOL! I finally put that out to pasture. Were you the one that commented on it before? I actually have a really good mill now, but it is a two handed operation. Thanks for the comment!
Beetroot and egg are generally always on an Aussie burger menu ( Beetroot I find too sweet) - double meat and double cheese with spicy sauce make up for it. Egg should added -
"Before the Canadians get all angry". That's probably not gonna happen, unless you drink my beer. Plus it's a bit of a compliment, back bacon is damn good, so feel free to associate it with us. Also peameal bacon makes the best BLT imaginable.
+ShalinorOz Most everything can be ordered "with" or "without". I'm thinking that the beets really define an Aussie burger. When I hear pineapple, I think Hawaiian. Fried eggs... Cuban.
+Ballistic BBQ There's two burgers that can traditionally be bought from Aussie fast food shops. One is called a 'plain burger' the other is called the 'burger with the lot'. A plain burger has nothing on it except the meat patty and maybe some lettuce, tomato and beetroot if you were lucky but definitely no bacon. You can buy extras for it to build a burger to your own tastes. The other burger sold is the 'Burger with the lot'. It's what's known as the 'Aussie burger' to foreigners overseas. Setting it apart from the humble American burger is apart from lettuce, tomato, onions and cheese, is the addition of betroot, bacon + fried egg and the fried pineapple ring before being doused in a rich tomato sauce (different from ketchup, tomato sauce is not as vinegary). SO hopefully that's cleared things up regarding the 'plain burger+extras' vs the 'burger with the lot', Greg. This burger that you've got here would be just a plain burger+bacon+cheese. I hope you can upload the full Aussie burger with the lot sometime that would be brilliant!
Yeah pretty good but I think assembly is different in Aus. The fish and Chip shops that usually do you a hamburger with the lot don't do thick premium patty and lettuce, tomato is on top of meat. Also northern parts of Aus like Queensland will throw in grilled pineapple ring 👍. Love your work. Jim from South Australia. 👍 Also I don't think there is any mayonnaise but dead horse only lol, must have fried egg not over done 👍
Awesome looking burger. I'm happy you didn't have a Foster's, the only people in Australia who drink Foster's are tourists, most of it is exported to America, Ireland and the UK.
+John Thorgard PS. Fosters is rarely ever drunk here, most Liquor stores (we call the bottle shops) don't even carry it. In that range of low quality beer we drink Victorian Bitter or XXXX (four x).
Happy New Year Greg :-) That is one Bitchin' looking burger my friend :-) A "BIG" thumbs up :-) Right into my CULINARY playlist :-) Ballistic BBQ RULES!!!!!!!! ROCK ON!!!!!!!
Channel is very excellent, and I'm a follower you from Kuwait, it,s a Muslim country, and we eat lamb mor than beef so I wish if. you can make lamb burger and sauce , thank you very much. abdulaziz mohammad..
Looks delicious Greg. As an Aussie, this is good, but its missing pineapple, and a fried egg. Ballistic BBQ LOL awesome, you will love it, trust me :)
+FitAnge S Yes, I would agree with FitAnge S. Lovely video, however it is very Australia to include an egg and pineapple. :D
Can't have an Aussie burger without a fried egg in there!
True !
it must not be that important if the Aussie that gave him the recipe didn't tell him.
+Rich Law he's not an Aussie then, simple
Watch'dUP is it that serious
+Rich Law well are you serving an Aussie burger or not? An Italian dish without pasta..... Yes you need the fried egg.
An Aussie Burger definitely needs Beetroot. A Pineapple slice and an Egg!
I Think I've just worked out what I'm having for Lunch Tomorrow!......
Big thumbs up from an Aussie here!! I see a lot of Aussie's below mentioning that there's no egg or pineapple, personally not a fan of either.. So for me, you hit the nail on the head!! How we do it in our shop (16 years now)
From bottom working our way up to the top:
Standard 4 or 5 inch bakers bun
Lettuce
Tomato
Beetroot
Beef Patty
Cheese (melted of course)
Bacon (not crispy generally, just well caramelised)
Pineapple ring (grilled)

Grilled brown onion
Tomato Sauce (Ketchup)
Bun lid (Sesame Seed)

When is this guy opening a burger joint? I would drive cross country for one of his burgers
Do one of the most common australian foods in summer.
This can be found at one of the big hardware stores each weekend.
The Sausage Sizzle.
Very simple, Very tasty
Slice of bread, Sausage, caramelized onions, tomato sauce or BBQ sauce
Butter a slice of bread, cook the sausage and onion, place sausage diagonally, add onions on top, add your sauce, fold at the corners.
Enjoy.
Worth the $2.50 every weekend
+85ddrummer I just go for the sausage sizzle on both saturday and sunday.
Money goes to charity so why not?
I normally have 3.
XD, I'm a fat little fox
+IIGrayfoxII Sounds a lot like an Italian sausage sandwich without the peppers. I can only imagine the sausage is different but I'm sure its just as awesome
+FragBashers we normally use plain beef sausages, but you can use what ever you like, it is your sizzle after all
+IIGrayfoxII Bunnings sausage sizzles are my life

+Luke Beacon Thanks again for the recipe Luke!
Should've sent him a 'burger with the Lot' recipe
+Luke Beacon luke! no egg?
+moakley +85ddrummer There are so many great Aussie burgers, but I think The Lot burger is an acquired taste!

Loving your show, tried many of your gastronomical delights.
Another fabulous burger recipe Greg. I've never heard of Georgia Sauce, so I'll have to check it out. I loved that shot at the beginning where you dropped the ribeye steak and next thing we see is the meat coming out of the grinder!!! Great editing brother!!! Cheers!

greg from gregs kitchen will love this one. beetroot is very popular in UK and Ireland aswell as Australia
+Kieran Mageean we will prolly be watching that in 2-3 weeks from him. lol
He's done the aussie burger before my friend!
Greg's kitchen is awesome lol, and so is Greg from Ballistic BBQ

The view you had when the patty was cooking was pure YUMness!
Dear Lord that looks Amazing Greg.
I'll be thinking about this video all day for sure.
Epic Indeed. Happy New Year!
I am an Australian and this is authentic , exactly as an Aussie would make , the beetroot is what sets it off .

Great looking burger, of course, Greg! Hope you & your family had a Merry Christmas & are having a Happy New Year! TFS :))
Looks good. At this age, I might even try the beets. Hated beets when I was a kid. All I can say is thank god my dog liked them when I was a kid.
Glad to see you use a REAL oil around the grill instead of the canola oil. Ever seen a canola plant Ballistic BBQ? Grape seed oil is a really good choice...Avocado oil even better. Thumbs up
Onions on the bottom to keep Bunnings happy 😂😂 #aussiejoke
Totally drool worthy. That was an amazing looking burger.
good cook Greg
here in NZ we do our burgers very similar.
but we add a fried egg anc a slicd of pineapple.
the "kiwi burger"

THAT is why you are my "go to" burger guy!! Fantastic job, thank you for sharing!! (I can totally see those beets working well)
Awesome videos. New fan from Australia, on a binge of your videos, ha.
Thanks, Greg and Happy New Year! I'm trying to come up with a burger I loved as a youth for you to try out.

I'm a simple man. I saw "Aussie" and clicked like. Aussie Aussie Aussie! Oi Oi Oi! You forgot the egg and pineapple but we still love ya.
You made it!! I knew that you would eventually make it.
Great vid! That looked awesome - dare I say better than I'd get from my local burger joint in Sydney
one of my closest friends is an Aussie so I'm going to steal this recipe and put it to the test with him. but darn it sure does look good
Thank you Greg for the shout-out! For your viewers and for a limited time Georgia's Sauce is offering free shipping within the U.S.

You're welcome Scott. I'll be visiting soon to do a remote video with you, so get ready. My car is running, ready to travel. We are testing your sauces out..
can we get your sauce in Australia?
We don't have a distribution there yet. Shipping a single package would be very expensive.
awwwe yeaah! Arrogant Bastard Ale is great! I'm a huge fan of their "Delicious IPA".
+The Real Drunkard Hu Stone Rocks!
Looking good, I want to try that now
very very nice burger i will be making asap i would of never thought to put beetroot on a burger great video thanks steve
Yes, it was me lol.
+mr75204 LOL! Thanks!
Killer looking burger again Greg, the beet root was an interesting addition. I'll be checking out that BBQ sauce soon.
another killer burger Greg!
Awesome looking burger like always!
Beetroot and egg are generally always on an Aussie burger menu ( Beetroot I find too sweet) - double meat and double cheese with spicy sauce make up for it. Egg should added -
Hey Greg, pre similar to a Kiwi burger (New Zealand) All its missing is a fried egg, love your video bro, keep them coming
"Before the Canadians get all angry". That's probably not gonna happen, unless you drink my beer. Plus it's a bit of a compliment, back bacon is damn good, so feel free to associate it with us. Also peameal bacon makes the best BLT imaginable.
Looks good can't wait to try and make myself!!!!
It's beetroot + the bacon and eggs that define the Aussie burger! No fried egg, no Aussie burger :(((((
+Josh j Someone tell the Aussie that gave me the recipe!
+Josh j no egg for me either & i'm Aussie lol. but definitely beetroot
+ShalinorOz It's more of a "chook period" than "chook poo".
love your channel Greg, thanks for posting!
Dude these burgers are making me hungry!!!
Nice work mate! Always watch your channel was very excited when I saw you were doing an ozzie burger. Gotta love beetroot!
Awesome looking burger. I'm happy you didn't have a Foster's, the only people in Australia who drink Foster's are tourists, most of it is exported to America, Ireland and the UK.
It looks very good
Awesome job Greg, that burger looks amazing!
Beautiful !
Australian here. Great burger, accurate. Bonus you could add a sunny side up fried egg in Australia we call it The Lot burger.
+John Thorgard PS. Fosters is rarely ever drunk here, most Liquor stores (we call the bottle shops) don't even carry it. In that range of low quality beer we drink Victorian Bitter or XXXX (four x).
+John Thorgard Good to know! Thanks!
+John Thorgard
I don't blame you, Foster's is garbage.
I added a egg sunny-side-up and it was the best burger i've ever had!
awesome job, looks delicious

sorry, change the beef with lamb, thats it ...
Sorry mate an aussie burger is made with beef not lamb you dont really see lamb burgers here in Australia maybe go to new zealand if you want that.
Australian here, I love beetroot in my burger. You described the beetroot perfectly.
looks very good Greg
Strangely enough the ladies at the local hardware sausage sizzle use some sage in the onion.
Nice touch of spice I think!
Canadian Bacon is made from cured pork loin (backstrap) that are rolled in cornmeal. I prefer good old pork belly bacon! :-D
wow! another amazing burger recipe! Thank you!
Love the vid mate from Sydney Australia.
That looks epic Greg! I'll bet it tasted awesome!
