    Paid mourners crack me up the most! The exaggeration, the melodrama, Oscar worthy! I love Ghana 🇬🇭 ❤

    I am from New Orleans, Louisiana, and we have similar funerals. New Orleans has a lot of west African traditions.

    It's also believed by some Ghanaians that the corpse dance which most of the moves is controlled by the corpse and if the dead does not want to leave, they won't be able to even lift the coffin unless a rite is performed e. g pouring of libation. I'm saying this based on experience and it's beautiful to them especially when the corpse was a chief

    Imagine being buried in one of those special made coffins in Ghana and being carried by these special pall bearers. Ghana has custom made coffins for individuals as well. Funeral in Ghana is on a whole new level.

    It's not culture, but innovation. They found a niche offering and incorporated it into their pallbearing business.

    Professional mourners - people who cry and mourn the dead - have been around for more than 50 years. The dancing pallbearers are a more recent phenomenon less than 50 years..

    This is not a culture thing per se. Its just added by some families to spice up the occasion. Generally, a funeral of a respectable person will not have this kind of 'show'.
    Most will be for young guys, middle aged men who were quite popular and influential with the young ones.

    For me in my culture it exists but only if the dead was above 90 we don't cry but rather celebrate the good they did and the long life the lord gave them,,we believe its only normal that we all die for long age we celebrate but deing young its mourning

  • @naturesfruits
    @naturesfruits Před rokem

    This is new definately but it reduces the hurt of the mourners. Initially its a slow solemn walk

    Ghana style Pall bearers have been in existence since ancestors and it wasn't a job back then. They were chosen from the deceased family. The men especially young men would carry the coffin. Historically you do get some men who would take the pall bearing period to another level with eccentric dancing but it depended on the social status of the deceased. A well respected elderly wouldn't be treated with eccentric move whereas a vibrant young man who passed would be treated by his friends and family pall bearers.. The recent trend which has been made rival by these guys has come as result of being a means of employment as well as entertainment as he mentioned in the video. . To note it's not everyone who likes this and ones status in society determines whether they go for these eccentric dancing pall bearers. A chief wouldn't be treated with this dancing pall bearing.. . So this has been in existence since ours ancestors.

    Love that they’ve finally become memes❤🥰
    In Ghana we celebrate at funerals it goes for three days and first day we cry
    The second day we party hard and then bury our dead so this is where they’ll come in I mean the dancers and carry the dead off to burial
    Third day we go to church in the morning give thanks to The All Mighty for everything and then go eat some food and party hard again 🎉❤️🇬🇭🙏

    We even hire people to cry at funeral in Ghana if you want them crying and rolling on the floor you pay higher, only crying you pay less, crying and asking God and the cops questions you pay way higher the even advertise themselves on Jiji to be hired
