CODY, Wyoming: We Explore One Of The USA's Best Towns To Visit!

  • We visited Cody, Wyoming, and were struck by the incredible natural beauty and the many things to do. Founded by Buffalo Bill Cody to be a gateway to Yellowstone Park, it has remained that and much more, including spectacular scenery, exciting history, and its world-class museum, The Buffalo Bill Center of the West. Even better, residents enjoy its livability, low crime and high average income.

Although the stampede rodeo is large, the daddy of em all during Cheyenne frontier days is the largest. Cody nite rodeo does daily rodeos from June to august starting at 8 pm. Bubbas BBQ is a must to have when visiting. I grew up 90 miles from Cody and Cody was where we did all of our shopping. (Closest Walmart) Yellowstone gift shop is always fun. There’s one store in downtown that sells jams, jellies, jerky, and sausage to die for. Can’t remember the name. Cody Fourth of July parade is a must do as well. Not too far outside of Cody on highway 14A, the heart mountain relocation center and memorial is a cool historic stop as well. I’m not sure if they still do this too (haven’t been to Cody in years) every hour during the summer an old west style shootout show happens just in front of the Irma. It’s a cool fun way to show western history. Also Irma hotel is named after Cody’s daughter. The restaurant inside is delicious. One of the hotel rooms is one of the most haunted in the country according to legend. There’s also a large veterans memorial on the outskirts of town near beck lake. Granny’s cafe reminds me of a nice home cooked meal and if I remember correctly they had huge cinnamon rolls. I believe you can also go rafting on the Shoshone river in the canyon below Cody. This was one of my favorite places to go growing up in Wyoming. My town was never this vibrant or fun. I hope this comment helps other visitors choose other things to do in the city as well!

Cassie’s was originally a house of ill repute in the early 1900s. That was also the prohibition era so there was a secret entrance into the basement where alcohol was discreetly served.
It’s been one of Cody’s most popular hang out spots since the beginning. Live bands frequently play there on Fridays and Saturdays. There is a nightly dinner menu as well as daily lunch served. The establishment has had a few owners throughout the years but each has tried to keep the historical integrity of it intact. The main sign at the edge of the road has been there as long as I can remember.

We stayed in a cabin at West Thumb high in the mountains near the MT line (on north & west side). It had a wood burning stove. Didn’t stay in the cabin too much, there was so much mountain to see.

I used to truck extensively in Wyoming, and it is beautiful, especially in that northwest corner. I drove a flatbed semi, delivered roofing/construction materials, so I got to see just about every corner of the state. Parts along I-80 are pretty desolate, I can see why some would think that's "ugly", but it's also magnificent in it's own way. I usually came to Cody by way of Casper, which takes you up through Shoshoni and Thermopolis, through Wind River Canyon, incredibly beautiful drive. If you come back another time, stop in to Thermopolis, nice little town, there's a hot springs resort and state park, historic and beautiful site, you'd love it.

You definitely did Cody justice, but there's a whole lot more there to explore that's for sure.
CASSIES was definitely a brothel back in the day, and the Madame who was in charge was named Cassie. There's a pretty colorful history, unfortunately I'm not real familiar with it.
I grew up in Missouri and lived in Kansas City and moved to Cody Wyoming in 1996. I raised my kids there and they graduated from Cody High school, one of the best schools in the state. I retired 2 years ago, and I live in Tucson for the majority of the year but I go back to Cody for a couple of months every summer because two of my daughters still live there, while one and Cody and one in Powell just up the road. Also the museum there has the largest collection of Winchester firearms in the world, in fact they loan out their stuff to the Smithsonian. The museum also has one of the largest gun museums in the world! So much history in one spot.

At the very first part, you are looking in the canyon where there was geyser activity. I grew up on your right side at 15:38.

Listen to the little girl. She was right! Geyser thermal runoff can contain many harmful chemicals. Plus, you're never supposed to leave the boardwalk.
Love your vids, no ill intent here! Just letting you know she knew her stuff!

Recently a Michigan man was burned in a thermal pool and faces federal charges for going off the established walkways in Yellowstone Park. When you enter the park, you are given literature that tells you that you are to never venture off the walkways. The temperature varies from warm to scalding. Fragile thermal areas can be damaged by people disobeying clear instructions to stick to established walkways. Check out the history of deaths of pets and people who got into thermal areas.

That old trail town looks so cool. You should get a stand alone GPS. I think your phone is relying on cell service while a regular GPS will be using satellites which will give you better coverage in out of the way places.

You could almost drive by the Yellowstone turnoff. No signs to indicate bears or other wild animals along freeway. Too much commercialization with hotels, boardwalks... All-in-all a nice stop. Enjoyed Wyoming.

It's nice that your stay at the Hampton Inn was so nice, you didn't mention the several pretty clouds in the sky though. Why is that? Don't worry, I'm just being silly! A couple day drinks will do that to me, I love your videos, including this one, which I'm only 30 percent into so far. Keep it up, I enjoy your content!

My Great Grandfather was a good friend of Buffalo Bill Cody. Just around the corner to the right on 12th Street is a shop called "CODY DUG UP GUN MUSEUM". Great shop run by a collector of old guns etc who's wife sadly passed away in the Fall of 2022.
