    Pablo, another excellent tutorial. I knew most of this already, but your presentations are so interesting and I always learn little handy things I didn't know. Thank you for doing these tutorials. I really enjoy them.

    Very good video, Pablo, thanks a lot. I have a question. How did you go about texturing the creature in order to obtain that render? Did you have to retopologize and make UVs as well as creating multiple subtools?

    •  Před 2 lety +1

      The colour of the dragon's heat is pure polypaint, it has no UVs and since I used VDMs, the scale details are on the same single subtool.

    Strange, but my CHISEL brush does not allow Sculptris to be enabled. To get this to work I had to choose the CHISEL 3D brush.

    •  Před 3 lety

      yes! it has to be the Chisel 3D

    • @goilo888
      @goilo888 Před 3 lety

      @ Yes, however at 9:48 you clicked on the "Chisel" brush.... Anyway, got it working so no matter.

    Hey Pablo, I'm making VDMs for bark for a tree. I spend ages getting the VDMs detailed so I dont have to detail each piece of bark... but when I place the VDMs on my tree mesh (7 million polys) they have jagged edges etc. I'm unsure how to get around this

    •  Před 2 lety +1

      keep in mind that when you click and drag to apply the VDM on a surface, you are ultimately displacing the points of that surface. If you see jagged edges, is because your base mesh doesn't have enough resolution to recreate the details of your VDM... in other words, if you create a super detailed VDM that has 7 mil points, when you apply it to another surface, you'll need an equivalent amount of points in just the area you dragged the VDM. My advice is to keep the VDMs simple and for high-frequency details use something else

    • @peterplantec7911
      @peterplantec7911 Před 2 lety

      I think Sculptris Pro may solve your problem. It automatically creates resolution for your DVM.

    Awesome tutorial! Do you know of a good tutorial, or can you provide and explanation on how to load premade VDM textures for use in ZBrush? I'm finding, surprisingly, virtually nothing on using premade VMDs.

    •  Před rokem

      Cheers! VDMs are just like any other brushes, just go to the brush palette and click on load.

    • @TTTristan1
      @TTTristan1 Před rokem

      @ Sorry I didn't word that super well. I know how to load VDM brushes made for ZBrush. I'm trying to figure out how to load VDM textures that act like ZBrush's VDM brushes. This might just be a thing that I've heard of for other software, but in Mudbox or Blender you can open an openEXR vdm texture into your brush and use that texture across programs (afaik). Do you know if that's a thing for ZBrush?

    @ThreeDeeMe123 Před 2 lety +1

    Hi Pablo thanks for making the videos, I have a question regarding the VDM's.... Is there a way to have the VDM's all the same size.
    Like if I pull out one horn and I want to have multiple horns behind each other but they need to be the same size how do I do that, because atm I'm just eyeballing them, is this possible, and how would I do this.
    Anybody else know the answer feel free to answer, Thanks!

    •  Před 2 lety

      Sure, you can totally do that... you can simply change the stroke type to 'Drag Dot' and the size of the VDM will be consistent. You can change the size based on the brush size ;)

    • @cfriedalek
      @cfriedalek Před 3 lety

      It was added with ZBrush 2021.6.6. If you don't have that version you need to upgrade. If you do have that version then contact Pixologic Support.

  • @kukkutdas4621
    @kukkutdas4621 Před rokem

    im so curious about how the retopo is done on this sketch how can someone retopo over those details, especially on those vdm crowded areas. someone pls tell me how its done.

    •  Před rokem +1

      VDMs displace the geometry so if you start with a basemesh the VDMs will push that geometry around. If you want something that is better distributed to accomodate the larger 'spikes' you can just run a ZRemesher to automate the retoplogy process in those areas.

    how did you textured these? substance painter? plz make a video on texturing on this character specifically. thanks.

    •  Před 3 lety +1

      this is just a very quick pass with polypaint... nothing fancy, just some colour variations to make it interesting.

  • @ZephrusPrime
    @ZephrusPrime Před 3 lety

    Hey Pablo- have you figured out how to have a VDM draw out and Polygroup itself when you draw it out?

    •  Před 3 lety +1

      there is no way to draw out a VDM with a polygroup yet (specially not with Sculptris Pro). However, the VDMs support polypaint, so you can just enable the RGB switch on your brush (VDM brush that is) and when you drag it out, there will be a specific polypaint in the displaced area... then you can just 'polygroup by polypaint' and you are good to go ;)

      @ I see, ok sounds good! I'll try it out. Thanks!
