If Aaliyah never died, she would have been phenomenal. After The Matrix movies, she probably had more opportunities in Hollywood. I imagine her in Fast & Furious or James Bond, in blockbusters. In music industry, she would have great hits and great featurings with Drake, Chris Brown or Nicki Minaj. She would have been a huge star. I won't compare her to BeyoncĂ©, Aaliyah had her own identity, her own aura and she would have been the Queen đŸ„ș

I definitely think Aaliyah would’ve gone further then her peers because Aaliyah’s has a great ear for music I mean her self-title alone sounds like something that could be released today, she wasn’t afraid to take risk with her music. The movies she was starring in would have sky rocketed her career, she had the Matrix, Sparkle and more under her belt. Aaliyah’s fashion and makeup is very much ahead of it’s time, I could see her walking the runaways and starring in campaigns for big designer houses. I KNOW I would’ve been Aaliyah fan if she was still here cause I know she would’ve been hated on and discredited like she is now, I always Stan artists that get under people’s skin and make em mad just by breathing.

I do feel like she would’ve been similar to Ciara. Like back out of the spotlight, maybe live a more private life because Aaliyah’s always been that way. She stayed out of the industry drama especially after that scandal. I think she would still make music features with artists like Drake, but she’d still keep herself out of the spotlight as much. Cause again she’s really mysterious as well.

I think the reason why we as Aaliyah fans go so hard for her is, because of the way she passed away. It was so tragic and caught us all completely off guard. Had she had passed away from a disease, we wouldn’t go as hard as to keeping her legacy alive and making her talent known. We would styll be crushed and sad of course, but probably wouldn’t go as hard for her. I hope I’m wrong. I actually remember the day she passed. I was a big 106@park fan and I had just saw her last interview the day before she passed. I actually found out Saturday night that she had passed, even though she passed away in the daytime on that Saturday. I was 13 at the time as well and me and my sister were big Aaliyah fans. I remember my dad bursting into our room telling us that Aaliyah died. It was around 11:30pm when he told us and at first we thought it was our younger cousin who’s name is Aaliyah as well and was actually named after Aaliyah. I instantly started crying hard, I couldn’t sleep that night. I remember myself just starring at the Aaliyah Poster I had on my wall in complete disbelief that she was gone. I was shooked. The poster was of Aaliyah sitting on the trunk of a car in an all red baggy outfit with her hair covering one eye. I will never forget that dayđŸ™đŸŸâ€ïžđŸŒč.

    She left Blackground records
A lot of prominent influential artists always say if Aaliyah was alive a lot of artist wouldn’t have the career they did if Aaliyah was still around. She was the trend setter for a lot of female black artists. I think she would still make music with a more mature sound, progress with her acting, have a fashion and make up line. Across between her idols careers Sade and Janet Jackson but in her own time. She wouldn’t rush to put out a project half hearted it would be a solid.

Hey this is a touchy topic and I can see how the what ifs would be amongst people. I will say this though as far as fans go you have different age and era of people that loved her while she was alive and then you have the ones that came after she passed in the wake of other major female artist. For me I grew up with Aaliyah in 1994 and loved her then but really appreciated the woman that was Aaliyah in 2001. She became so huge for us here in Detroit, yet she was becoming bigger in the 2000's. I can remember wanting her to leave blackground records and go to EPIC records or some other major label because she deserved that major stardom, success and huge backing from a label that truly believed in her and wanted to do right by her career and she did. So long story short I would have loved her either way local success or international success, but I do believe from what I saw and lived through and the effects of her artisty since today she would've been major yet with that private life like a Sade and Janet. As far as her death goes she will always be remembered for many things, but the reality of her death is stuck in everyone minds especially us that grew up with her it hurts, it never sits right with us because she was special and you can always tell when someone was about to become international. Thank you.

I didn't even listen to brandy or Monica so its funny that people try to compare her career to theirs..she out-sold them both...I didn't even hear about brandy until Moesha and even then paid her little attention...and Monica I didn't know about her until the boy is mines and years later with her solo stuff that I still didn't listen to...
I remember wearing my one and only Aaliyah shirt that I had for years because back then you couldn't find stuff and nobody ever said a thing...like they didn't even know her...and sometimes when I would talk about her people acted as if they didn't know who she was...like how she was huge in the 90s and early 00's...its so weird because when she came up years after her death people acted as if they didn't know her...I had to really break down who she was before they got it...

We wore our hair like hers and I dress like her still. She was a very big influence on us. I miss her and I love you for asking this question. I still think I would most definitely be a fan. I remember it coming across the TV screen... I bump her daily. My song I'm on now is girl like you with her and Trench

@TonyTurner I was born in 89 and was 5 when Aaliyah came out in 1994! I was a fan when she came out but grew to love her more as I got older and could understand her lyrics.....Very Interesting Question?!?! Honestly, its hard to say because she was just a different artist. Im a fan of BRANDY as well but Brandy lost my connection when the style of her music didn't blend in the 2000s! Aaliyah was special though and had a warmth and glow that probably would have keep me drawn to her. I do wonder if I would have been AS BIG of a fan of hers if she was still here!!.....I do think she would have been successful still and a HUGE SUPERSTAR. Now Aaliyah music style was changing as the 90s era of music ended but I don't know how she would of stood out amongst her peers. She definitely would have owned the acting lane and fashion. Being that I'm such a big fan of hers, I hate to compare record sales but while alive as you mentioned in a previous video she couldn't outsale Brandy nor Monica. Brandy nor Monica became A-List Celebrities. Brandy did become a major B-List celebrity with all of her lead acting roles etc. With that being said, Its just hard to say if Aaliyah would have been big A-list celebrity due to her music. Her label made bad decisions which hurt her career and then her fall out with her producers. SO MANY VARIABLES!! :-/ I'll close with this, Her dating Damon Dash would have def given her leverage to blossom even more in the industry due to his music knowledge which I'm sure would have helped her.
Tell me what you think :-)

I'm definitely not the person to ask. Aaliyah is very near and dear to my heart. She means a lot to me. When I see her I see myself. Sometimes I forget she's dead and when it hits me its feels like I've been living in a parallel universe this whole time where she is still alive and I get zapped back to this reality. I can't be the only one who feels this lol. I'm going to reframe from answering these hypotheticals because I'm going to be biased. But I definitely agree that Aaliyah is an aesthetic. And I get that, because she's obviously very beautiful and her style, makeup, hair was before it’s time. A lot of people still imitate that look. I see so many MUA recreating her best looks. But I think that’s where it stops with some people. They just like the superficial when it comes to Aaliyah.

Aaliyah last album showed her growth and music versatility. Then she was the first to do a lot in pop culture and R&B culture. She was already known worldwide but I feel like she would’ve been an all time great musician/artist cause she was so versatile in the terms of modeling, fashion, music, movies and etc. She could’ve been way bigger than just an artist you know. Her aesthetic taste was very broad and appealing so that would attract all kinds of audiences.
For example her music videos , her style , persona , song versatility , and the way she articulate herself is very appealing to different kinds of audiences. This is just how I feel.

To be completely honest, Aaliyah would have just been in her own lane doing her if she was alive today. She would have not been on a huge superstar level which she was not concerned about either. She loved living her actual life & she loved to make music from time to time. She even said herself she needs to take breaks from music in general (which can be overwhelming) & just lay low, have fun & live a private life. To me that doesn't sound like anyone who is fame hungry...which is ok. Not everyone is thirsty to be this huge famous celebrity & Aaliyah definitely was not one obsessed for fame.

She would’ve had a very consistent career. Not entirely a huge international artist (because she didn’t need to be) but nonetheless successful in music, film, television, and other business ventures. Aaliyah had four films, two TV shows, and a clothing line in the works. She was about to embark on the biggest tour of her entire career so I think her exposure throughout the 2000s would’ve been big. I think she definitely would’ve left her label and made up with Timbaland and Missy E. and they all would’ve made great music together circa 2007-2009. Think Will Smith, Queen Latifah, and Selena Gomez when thinking about the potential with Aaliyah. Now obviously, with the latter comparison Aaliyah is and was a much more critically acclaimed artist and clearly made better music but you can’t deny the large brand that Selena Gomez has in the industry. Not to mention, Aaliyah was in the process of collaborating with heavy weights like Whitney Houston, The Isley Brothers, Nine Inch Nails, and Janet Jackson.

Her acting career was about to blow up especially with the Matrix sequals and I know Jessicca Alba's role in Honey was supposed to be Aaliyah's role. Also she had a upcoming role in Sparkle with Whitney Houston . I also read on a CZcams video of Aaliyah that she was supposed to have a 7 movie deal with Warner Brothers up to 2008 which I beleive. I also heard that she had a clothing line that was upcoming with Kidada Jones called Dolly Pop. Which was supposed to be with Kidadda Jones. But great video Tony

In my opinion: One of the biggest problems that would have been against Aaliyah being bigger if she was alive is her record label. Yes, Aaliyah was big but she wasn’t getting the numbers that the mainstream superstars were getting and a lot of that is due to her label. There is a huge possibility that Aaliyah career would have went down with background records just like Ashanti career did when Murder Inc started going down or Ciara. It could have been extremely possible that Aaliyah would have had trouble getting out of her contract and not being able to become bigger moving forward like Jojo with background records. Especially considering the fact that her uncle still hasn’t even made her music available for her fans. I personally don’t think she would have gotten to a BeyoncĂ© or Rihanna level due to her uncle alone and it is unfortunate but he wasn’t a good businessman like Mathew Knowles was for BeyoncĂ© and Jay Z was for Rihanna. We really just never know.

The label plays the biggest role in artists success. Artist big like Justin Bieber and Beyonce wouldn't have the same success with some random label. As u see most successful artist are signed to label like Atlantic or Columbia records so that's why they more successful. I think it's not that much about the talent. But the potential will identify if you gon be one hit wonder or if you gon be superstar. I think Aaliyah had that potential of superstar so if she moved to a better label she would automatically be bigger.

I often say she's one of my favorite singers of all time, it wasn't fair that she died at 22. I was just getting into her... I believe that she would have had at least the same market share as Rihanna. She had several more albums in her, I feel, and she hardly reached her peak. I think she would have had a choice to be like Mandy moor, or like Beyonce, but I think she would have been between those 2 levels of fame. I like Beyonce for Beyonce, and I love Aaliyah for Aaliyah. not fair to compare, Aaliyah stood on her own, Beyonce cannot count her #1 hits without DC. I also find Beyonce's latest songs a bit off.

Love the topic, Tony! First and foremost
Aaliyah was a TRAILBLAZER, a TRENDSETTER, she had/still has bitches PRESSEDT! Aaliyah was well on her way to POPPIN’ OFF! Remember what the dude said on behind the scenes of “Romeo Must Die.” Aaliyah is the HOT NEW THING! She was literally in demand EVERYWHERE. She was falling back off the music scene and going more into her acting bag. She was booked for movies all the way up to 2008! That’s a long time considering she passed in 2001! She was growing in her artistry. I’m sure she would finally break away from Blackground, sign to a MAJOR label or maybe even go independent
who would treat her right, she’d gain more control of what she wanted to do with her projects. Her clothing line with Kidada woulda came out and THAT woulda been fly because everybody was and is already influenced by her style. How many girls and women out here tried to style their hair with the signature BANG OVER THE EYE??? If Aaliyah wouldn’t have died
I STILL would’ve found out about her and I STILL would admire her as a role model and I STILL would be a STAN. Brandy and Monica were industry puppets to a certain degree. No shade. Just
.manufactured. Brandy was the so-called good girl and Monica was the “hood” chick
and Aaliyah was just a mysterious Angel who kept it real ALL THE WAY AROUND. Also
my own home girl
.who’s in her 50s said that Aaliyah was “just alright” and she said she doesn’t get the hype around her. Soooo to avoid getting into a heated debate
I just fade off from that and change the subject.
    Also
I HAVE seen a rise in people wearing Aaliyah shirts. I saw a white woman at Target with an Aaliyah shirt, I saw a black teen girl at the park with an Aaliyah shirt
.I’ve seen her shirts in stores. And that’s a good question about whether or not folks wear the shirt for “aesthetics” or for the artist? Either way, she’s still in a way
being exposed to the world.
    Also
.don’t you think it’s a bit contradictory of us to say that Aaliyah was INTERNATIONAL, WORLDWIDE
but then turn around and act surprised that folks know who she is? This is what we want, right?

Where I live I promise you that most of the teens would know rolling stone songs. Nirvana, AC/DC, Rolling Stones - they're all popular band shirts.
I wouldn't rate fans at all.. The music is an art so everyone takes the parts they can relate or appreciate and they keep it alive. I also don't think it matters at what point someone becomes a fan. We often don't appreciate what we have until its gone. So I don't think you're less of a fan because you didn't get a chance to test how much support you would have shown. I think what would matter to her is that someone does care today & is keeping her legacy/music talked about.
I agree there is something so strange that her team /family hasn't done more for her legacy. You know they have probably been given a lot of opportunities to do different projects. I don't know if they are still so hurt they just want to keep her to themselves or what...its just strange.

She'd be perfect for this era of "Branding & Marketing" in terms using social media to build her brand outside of music, just like the "influencers" do today!

Aaliyah would have TAKEN OVER THE WORLD EVEN MORE
because think about her CHARACTER. That woman literally acted ONE WAY a all her life. EVERYBODY talks about how warm, sweet, pure, genuine her energy is. And THAT is more of a reason to me. See, her music wouldn’t be GHOST from the world. She WOULD be available on streaming platforms. She probably would’ve fought for her masters at some point, etc. I don’t see Aaliyah, an artist who was AHEAD OF HER TIME
.I don’t see her as someone who would get “played out.” Remember, people are doing NOW in 2021 what she did in 2001, 2000, 1998, etc. People would still be tryna keep up with HER.
I think to wonder anything else is low key insulting. We see how hard she worked. She was ALWAYS pushing for the next big project for herself. She NEVER let herself get comfortable in any one success. She would have broken free of raggedy-ass Barry and Blackground and she would have worked with so many other people. Everyone was attracted to her genuine spirit. She would have gone so far
.she would have gotten married and had a family at some point, too. And yes, once again, she would be on her Sade
not all up in social media. She’d be like, “I came, I slayed, I went home.” Lol.

Another insightful video! That's an interesting question if she didn't pass away would you, me or so many others be such huge fans of hers?! Yes she shouldn't be remember for being a singer who died almost 20 years ago. She was so much more than that.

At 12:25, I get what you're saying Tony. People rocking either because she passed or they love her image on the shirt but didn't really follow her like that. But you're right, for Rock Bands, that was a big thing in the early 2000s! Alot people were rocking Motley Crue shirts & shit back then!

My what if thoughts is that the self titled album would have been her last album. It would’ve a battle with Blackground ( cause you know her shady ass uncle ) did the red tour then in then she would have movies , tv shows , and maybe Broadway ( who knows ) then she would’ve release the fourth album after 6-8 years start a family not with dame. I think she would’ve had a beauty empire with Eric also have a kids clothing brand with Kidada (I hope I spelt her name correctly) lastly she would’ve tapped into her business bag
