I miss the 90s and early 2000s.There was so much substance and originality.
Before them “people” poisoned our society
📠💯
Me too. 😢
Right!
80's and 90's mostly , everything started getting watered down across the board when the 2000s hit ,
not only for Hip Hop/R&B and Black culture but for entertainment and society as a whole ,
games, movies/tv shows , fashion , and music. Wish I could endlessly loop 1980 - 2000.
Karl Kani was the clothing brand as a child I adored and wanted but couldn’t get. Fire on all levels!
It’s all I dressed my Son in. I was happy to support a Brother!
And my young Son was sharp!!
I was so happy he made the clothing in kids sizes!
I didn’t know his clothes are still available 😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮
yea had knock offs
same. Between High school and university I had no money for designer clothes
I still have a hoodie from this brand. And the front says kani jeans...
I'm so happy that the Karl Karni brand still exists. This video took me back to the 90's and early 2000's. Wow 🥺
definitely a legend, he opened the door for us in hip hop for a new opportunity.
I just purchased several Karl Kani and Cross Colors items from Nordstrom yesterday. This brand is still one of my favorites.
What? Nordstrom is carrying those lines now?
Yes they are! I work there!
Shout of to Martin Lawrence, for his Karl Kani episode, on the Martin Show. It was a hilarious episode.
The best!!
When I hear Karl Kani I think about that episode
Amazing that people are still wearing Kani. Keep it going
I’m 49 now and Karl Kani was my consistent brand and part of my wardrobe I rocked on the regular next to polo, Tommy and Gibaud back in the early to mid 90s. While dudes these days is buying and wearing fitted jeans (not that I have an issue with that) and having them sag down to the point where they can’t walk normally which makes no sense to me today. Our version of that concept back then was going 2 sizes up if necessary and baggy, and Karl Kani help shaped the hip hop culture with just that! Honorable mention to April Walker (Walker Wear) as well.
Don't forget Guess, too.
And Nautica
@@TechGreguy word! I never did Nautica too tough because at that time I was thinking Nautica was at the bottom tier underneath Tommy, and the top Polo! But honorable mention 👊🏽
@@VegasElement word! Meant to comment on this but me coming from Uptown, Harlem, BX, although I had a few Guess pieces, I certainly felt that Bklyn/Queens had Guess on lock more than uptown. Another 90s brand honorable mention. 👊🏽
I still have 2 Karl Kani jackets I brought as a teenager. I wondered where he went. A very unique style , ahead of his time.
I got a cropped jacket as a birthday present a couple of years ago. Even though it isn’t vintage, I’m still happy to have it. The style is baggy and comfortable.
Keep them!! Television shows like BMF and Raising Kanan need those clothes you can rent them out to styling companies
Man this brings back so many memories lol. I remember being 10 years old in 1992 when his clothes first got hot I remember begging my mom for a pair of his jeans and when we got to the store and she saw the price she told me hell no and I left the store in tears 😂😂
Instead of bringing Tommy Hilfiger back, made by the other man. We need to bring Karl Kani Brand back.
its still around.
@@Eiramilah
Yes, but you know what I mean.
@@C-Lyfe85 Yes, I DO!
What’s the cloths like now? At least Tommy does give props to the black community, so does Ralph Lauren.
@@leonhenry4861
What does the clothes look like now? They look like the current clothing of today.
They have a website, you can order all you want.
I worked with Karl in the early 90’s at Desi Wear. Him & Desi were real cool with each other and Desi sold his clothes in his store along with Cross Colors, Guess, and other name brands. The store was on the corner of Main & Manchester in the same shopping center of Roscoes Chicken & Waffles in Los Angeles. He is a real cool dude!!! Peace Karl!!!!
Such a cool opportunity 😊
I bought my son plenty of Kani, Phat Farm, Sean Jean(sp) Enyce, all the gear that was created by our Black Artists. I loved how well-made they were and they were very attractive. Ok at least I know where he is. Thanks.
do fubu get props
@@jyoung9046 Yes. Fubu was very valued. They came along and we bought it.
SORRY BUT WE LOVED FASHION. NONE OF THOSE BRANDS WERE GOOD. TOO EXTRA TOO LOUD TOO COUNTRY.
LOOK UP
MADNESS, HOBO, ALLDAYZ , SHOOTERS. ALL BLACK BRANDS
AHEAD OF ITS TIME. WHICH EVERYONE COPIES TODAY
@Water Sniper Yesss! I can't remember them all but those were great brands also. I also forgot Roca Wear (sp). I liked that fashion era for young men so my husband and I allowed my son to wear it. I mean I always tried to find Black Designers anyway - I've always tried to support the Black Community first.
Wow! I didn’t know Karl Kani was still around. I wore Kani back in the 90s when I was much more hip. 😂
About 25 yrs ago, my sis met him in Paris & he showed her great time. No strings attached. She said he was fun & respectful. He beautified her trip.
No strings attached huh lol that's the story she told you
@@Foreign84😂😂😂😮
@helenbestman5338 lmao people be gullible 😂
Man I use to Live Karl Kani. The Quality was amazing when they came out. I still have my big orange Karl Kani shirt from Neiman Marcus that my grandmother brought me 25 years ago when I was in high school. I remember the Shirt was like $70 but it’s held up for these many years ❤💯👊🏾
He’s still around. I wanted to support but then I saw those prices. Maybe Karl Kan but I Kannot.
😂😂😂
And I think he owns pretty little thing (female clothing line)too..if I’m not mistaken
I named my son after this designer! He was apart of my generations culture and fashion! Thanks for sharing this story! So inspirational!
I loved my Forrest green Kani baggy jean shorts! I remember I begged my mother when I was 12 in 1993 for these shorts! Since he was a black designer my mom didn’t mind shelling out that money. They were $135 dollars and I bought them from Merry Go Round and wish I still had them!
I miss Kani and Cross Colours!👍🏽
Wow Merry Go Round. Yeah, I remember that store. Yeah, it was expensive. I had to get myself a job because my mom couldn’t afford it.
I worked at merry go round at bayside mall just so I could buy myself some Karl Kani and cross colors 😂
Merry-Go-Round where?
I sure wish I could find my boss jeans
It's interesting that this video came up in my recommendations. I'm in the Netherlands now by way of the U.S. and no joke; I recently came across two Dutch females who had on Karl Kani hoodies. I had to give them a head nod of approval and told them were wearing some vintage history. They told me that they loved the 90's hip hop style and even had boots and jeans to match.
I rocked Karl Kani back in the day. 💯
Man major salute to Karl Kani for pushing the culture forward since way back!!....true innovator, trailblazer & pioneer!!!👍🏾👊🏾✊🏾💪🏾🙏🏾💎🔥👑💯
Karl Kani was the 1st brand that I bought with my own money as a kid in high school. I bought a shirt. Great quality and affordable brand. Miss those days.
#Karl_Kani was highly respected in our culture for clothing as Hype Williams was to music videos... 🙏🏽👑🐐💪🏿
Man this is dope. I remember having a few Karl Kane pieces back in high school.
Im glad to see that he's still up! 👑
This was a good find. I'm glad to see that Karl Kani is still available since I grew up in the 80's and 90's.
I met Karl Kani 2001 Black 🖤 Expos Indianapolis Indiana his style sooo' Dope 🔥
At the time it was Karl Kani and Cross Colors. United Colors of Benneton was also big in those days. Brands like Valentino and Sergio Taccini were also still big but style was getting more urban. There used to be a brand that had a logo that was like a lifeline, I remember ONYX wore their stuff for a little while but i cant remember the name. Brands like Sean John, Phatfarm, Enyce, SOHK, Mecca, Girbaud came much later in the late 90's early 2000's.
Unforgotten. A legend.
Very dope segment! Y'all doing it and thanks for this video! He's an ICON!
I still have a Karl Kani sweater from 10+ years ago, maybe 15+ actually, and it's still in top shape, some of the thickest stitching and warmest overall sweaters I own, usually hate rocking gear with big logos but this one gets a pass as his logos/treatments were classy. +1.
Run D MC wore Aididas because they were already popular. Hip hop fashion was just a continuation of the style we were wearing as far back as 1967. I was born in Baltimore in 1962. In 1968, we were wearing Kangol cool caps and saucer hats, Lees jeans in all the different colors, Converse Jack Purcell tennis shoes and would match that with contrasting colored silk boxer shorts, tank tops and t-shirts. I remember very clearly because my father was dressing like this. He was about 23 or 24 at the time. I still have the photos. Kids my age started wearing the same style from 1969 though 1973 or 74. We would pull our silk boxers up a little above the Lees to show the contrasting colors. For example, if I was wearing light blue Lees, I would match that with royal blue silk boxers and tank top, then cap it off with a white Kangol Mr. Cool... ya know. Not like some of today's youth who pull their pants down to show their behinds with their dingy looking da dunt da dunts(Briefs Underpants!) Afterwards, we moved on to something else because this clothing store named "Every Man Sons" opened up selling some real fly clothes kids. So, we started dressing like little gangsters and pimps. 🤣 Then around 1980, when the hip hop scene in New York began blowing up all over the country, Kangols and Lees made a roaring comeback. So now, my younger brother, who was about 10 or 11, wanted to dress like that. I remember my father saying, "Here we go again! They just wear the same styles over and over again!"🤣
Lovely history of the brand and its founder. Thank you! ❤
I had one light peach colored female outfit that was fly by Karl Kani! I wore it out to the club and nobody else had it on except me. 😊 I liked that! I bought it from Macy's.
Ya u could all black designer stuff in macy
Did you wear it with the pastel Reeboks? I would have looked perfect.
I remember Karl being one of the first people I followed on IG! So kind.
Used to rock his gear hard in the early 90's!! Thank you Karl for representing!
I still promote him a lot!
I remember Karl Kani and I use to love it!! I never knew the history of the brand nor did I know it was a black man who made it. You learn something new everyday!! Thanks for sharing this!!!
I wondered about Karl Kani. Back in the day, I couldn’t afford his clothes but I liked them.
Thanks for the history of Kani clothing. ❤️
I bought Karl Kani for my son in the 90s...we both appreciated the brand
Good to know the history...thanks.
👍💯⭐
Omg, yes Karl Kani , was part of my fashion wardrobe back in the day💖.
French dude here. I still wear Karl Kani on a regular basis. I just love that brand.
This video illustrated very good reporting skills! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Loving this one thanks for sharing very information blessed love to all knowledge is power hopefully everyone pays attention keep up the good work used to rock his gear from the hodie and jeans 🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲
Ouuu thank you for making this cause I was always curious about him!
Last year I bought a sleeveless Karl Kani puffer jacket which i love. The brand is big here in European high end stores
Hiphop branded the culture. A force that led to a movement. Revolution.
This was a dope history lesson. Thank you!
Omg I used to wear his stuff all the time in the 90's I am glad to see he is still around 😊!!!
Love this channel!!
Good to hear, thanks for sharing
When I was stationed in Panama (1994-1996), I saw plenty of Karl Kani clothes (as well as tommy hilfiger) worn & sold. We used to see the clothes sold in a shopping center area known as Cinco De Mayo (Pacific side) & the Free Zone (I think Atlantic side). This is how we described living in Panama when I was stationed there: Pacific side & Atlantic side.
Karl Kani, Used, Damaged! I used to wear all of that because I was a tomboy that loved to wear my brother's big stuff! I got beat up but it was worth it. 🤣
Damn.. I forgot about used and damaged.. them was my Jones
Good story...
I certainly rocked the few Karl Kani items I managed to get as teenager.
Good times.
Karl Kani was so dope back in the days.
Excellent video excellent delivery
Imma have to see where they’re selling Kani I didn’t know he was still producing wear. I wanna support our black fashion icons Kani is definitely it. Crenshaw was my neighborhood. What if him n Nipsey got together it would’ve been classic!
The best for continued success!
I bought some kani shirts in the 90’s and still got it today. I rock them on special occasions.
I live in the Netherlands now. They still produce Karl Kani Clothing. And you can see people walk around wearing Jackets.
this is the embodiment of hiphop fashion #RIP2Pac
Amazing video.
I remember when his store opened on Crenshaw 👑I still have my Purple Kross Kolors(think that's how you spell it 😏) Loved his style 🔥 Good to hear he's still around 👑 God bless you 💘💨
I was a bouncer in the mid nineties And I worked at the world famous tunnel nightclub. I Bought a pair of black karl Kani boots with the silver emblem at the top. When I tell you those were the most uncomfortable boots I've ever worn in my life I'm not lying. It's like you can feel everything that's on the ground. Outside of the tunnel The street was cobblestone And I could feel every stone. They were nice looking boots, and I paid a pretty penny for them so I wore them until I couldn't take it anymore. But shout out to karl, His clothes were definitely A must have In hip hop back in those days🎤
If you thought those boots were uncomfortable, you can only imagine how bad your feet would’ve felt in a pair of lugz endorsed by Funkmaster Flex
IT'S CALLED BY TIMBS
I remember all my favorite rappers wearing KANI, and my mom wasn't spending that kind of money on clothes, so I had to wait til I was grown to cop👍. Still makes fashionable attire today, and I'm still copping 😁💯
I met Karl and his lady in Lenox Mall in Atlanta back in 03. Cool dude!
He will forever be a brand pioneer salute to the king 💯🌹🌹🌹🧸💯💖
Awww man I loved me some Karl Kani boy boots!! I wore them all the time. 🔥
It’s so dope seeing your friends in these type of videos doing what they love. Or didn’t even they would get this far 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Some has come close. His gear or clothes are legendary, honestly keeping 💯
I have a lot of his work..right now every time I step out in it someone stops me asking me where you get that lol
The way he came up with his name is ill🔥
Great job KK!!
Very nice clothing line. I have purchased his clothing for my son when he was a little boy. 😊☺️😍😍
Yep. I had a real nice Karl Kani sneakers. I had just started working and I saved up for that. It was my most expensive piece of clothing I ever bought 😂. Greetings from Trinidad and Tobago
I still have some Karl Kani clothes that I purchased from the early 1990s. And believe it or not, they still fit me to this day! I met him during a promotion for his clothing brand at Macy's (in downtown Brooklyn) in 1993. That Brother was unbearably cool.
He need to bring it back.❤️
Best quality out of all the urban designers back then.
This was doc.....took me back. I use to buy his often.
I remember waiting in line at Simon's on Belmont Ave for a meet & greet with him. I had to be about 12 years old. I got a signed poster which I still have to this day.
That was a good piece.
I happened to be wearing my 28yr old Karl Kani hoodie when I noticed this video in my recommendations
Very nice. story. \I'm glad that he is still relevant.
I love it!!!
I LOVED his cloths I had so many pieces
I haven’t saw Karl Kani clothing in yearsssss!! Where is it sold?
Man, I remember as a middle school kid in the 90s, looking at all the Karl Kani clothes in the Eastbay catalog and wishing I had enough money to buy it all.
I loved his oil & cologne with the same name as the clothing gear. Baggies still rock. Long way from Flatbush.👍🏾
I love his clothes ❤️❤️ I just got me a Karl kani outfit
I didn't know this . I knew some one in the 90s lived by Karl Kani. He looked amazing in it 2.
I haven't been able to part with my older stuff even though I no longer wear it. It held up pretty well considering it's 30 years old. It would be nice if they released some of the throwback styles like the name stitched jeans before they went to metal plates.
Love the fact that he is still going strong when some of the other brands are and have always have stolen from Black designers!
Exactly!
One of my favorites
Both my sons were Karl Kanied down at all times...its was all I put on them..they looked like little men only 3 and 6 years old at that time...the boots the jeans..omg..so handsome...I still have original Karl Kani tee shirts...will have them forever...he was nothing but good for NYC...
They use to have a kids clothing store in Philadelphia downtown area . I wanted to name my son Kani. Can you do Avirex or Sergio, or Fubu?
Bit my signature off this dude's logo. Mid 90s hip-hop was awesome.
Never got a chance to wear this label but my older cousins and siblings definitely rocked this label ❤ ❤❤s/ o just for being a black man with his own clothing line🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🦾🦾🦾🦾
U can still find his stuff online. He's got a website not much but it's there. I'm fri. Rochester like John Wallace who went to Syracuse and played for the Knicks. He had some Kani kicks I rocked
I still wear Kani…actually bought another 4 t-shirts a few weeks ago
