Dapper Dan need a MOVIE done asap his story is so inspiring

Facts
Exactly this man is a Legend
Yesssss Undergound Drip The Dapper Dan Story.
Totally agree!!!!
You can do an entire fashion dissertation on this man. He basically birthed the luxury street fashion movement that we’re witnessing right now.
Now they have Misa Hilton too. Game over! She's Puffy daddy's first son mother. She created everything for Lil Kim, including the wigs. Now, Nicki Minaj team, wants that same look. But even Nicki has a collection at Gucci. So...they're there.
All facts no cap!
Couldn't have said it better!

New Era.
It’s been happening for the last 15 20 years you probably new on the scene
"after i taught myself TEXTILE PRINTING" icon
Ikr, I would like to hear more as to how he learned to sew and also textile printing etc. Truly remarkable!
I thought I was the only person who heard that!
Does that mean it wasn’t real Gucci or Louis Vuitton? I don’t really get what he meant
@@josephmurabito6690 is not
@@josephmurabito6690 It was counterfeit Gucci, he was biting Italian style and feel but who could blame him. Italians have been giving the world sense of fashion for forever
he could start his own logo and label! everybody loved HIS creations not just the logos. I'm so glad he's receiving the respect he deserves. thanks Vogue for giving him a platform
I agree, the way he talks about the brands and emphasised "symbols', he should really make his own. It would be even more iconic.
I completely agree with you... He should have his own label with the Dapper Dan logo all over his own design. Since he has the talent to be sought out after by the other labels and have a seat at their table then he has the talent to have his own table that likewise young talented black designers would be eager to have a seat at as well.
exactly what i was thinking
Well, Dapper Dan already sounds like a high fashion brand.
He should have his own line named after him! period
Dapper Dan has changed the Cinderella Story. Beautiful!
Dapper Dan is thee HARLEM story!
Agreed!
@@amyjanedoe y e s!!!!
😏 Fine woman.
Yes he did! This a Dapper Dan story. He tailor made Cinderella's Gucci Gown. Right? Lol
"The most important thing that a person of color can do is get inside, to have a seat at the table", this brought tears to my eyes. Thank you Dapper Dan.
How about u built ur own house and table🔴
@@magneticqubzian6902 they give you the table and the seat infact the house. Then its equality.
@@sunnymarie2060 Nobody is going to GIVE u equality, that is Fantasy
Amen
@@magneticqubzian6902 you’re deliberately missing the point. He did build his own house (very successfully), but for progress to happen he needed to be invited in by his neighbours and be allowed to sit at the same table. Not that difficult to understand
This was the most inspirational video Vogue ever did IMHO. He is full of inspiration. He was the voice of fashion lovers who cant afford Nicki Minaj Fendis, Guccis, LV logos. Even people who are not broke cant afford super expensive brands. (For example one can afford Coach, Kate Spade, Alexander Wang but not Gucci or Fendi)...I got so sad/pissed when he said Gucci ripped off and put on their runway exact same jacket but thanks to internet Gucci could not get away with it. Gucci, Fendi , Louis Vuitton should have affordable lines for all fashion lovers. He is amazing. Thanks for the video. Btw like in movie Pretty Woman (like quote Julia Roberts), Dapper can say to Louis Vuitton: Big mistake! HUGE!
IKR! These folks always trying to tear down African culture and talented people. They are ridiculous! It’s very sad and I’m glad he stayed humble... kept his head up. Such an inspiration.

If they had cheap clothes their brand wouldn’t be so desirable any more,
@@aquata3367 I agree he is so humble and a wonderful story teller.
What goes around comes around, all the brands that set those raids in the 80’s have been appropriating other cultures ideas for years and now it’s time for them to get called out, this man is a legend, he is a real designer, repurposing clothes with a touch of genius is what made him a star, I’m glad Gucci got their sh*t together and gave this man what he deserves 👏🙏
I'm you're hundredth like!
Your gift will always going to make a room for you.
Show me a man who is diligent in his ways, I will show you a man
Show me a man who is diligent in his ways and that will be a man who will be among kings . He is not lazy,
True but the logos was what made the people buy the designs. It's the brand that creates the image .An identity of upscale image or swag etc...... upscale status level.
appropriating other cultures? The has been around like forever and wasn't geared toward urban gear. Their brand and logos were stolen. So,who really did the "appropriating?"
Wow! I always heard of dapper dan but never knew who he was or the history. But this was eye opening and refreshing! As a fashion school drop out I think everyone in fashion school should know who Dapper Dan is! Thank you Vogue!
Funny he didn’t go to fashion school it was a skill he was born with which is his talent we all have one or a couple we just have to find away to reach that full potential
“Never gave up”... most powerful!! (Dapper Dan is our fashion Icon)
I met him in Harlem.
I’m glad he is getting his flowers ❤️
It's about time Dapper Dan get recognized 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
The best thing vogue has EVER posted!
It's a beautiful moving story.. my respects
C'est une belle histoire très émouvante la passion triomphe toujours
Dapper Dan has always been DAPPER😉. I love his honesty. His hustle is something to be admired.
I am in love with how unintentionally hilarious and direct he is when telling his story.
Respect to Vogue for finally profiling this Legend on your CZcams channel 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽.
goodNESS!! and I had no idea that "Dapper Dan" was a real person growing up. My dad used to call me dapper dan when I dressed up for holidays lol. Never knew who this man was, but an 8 minute video has me giving mad respect to this man. A hustle is a hustle and this man knew his way in and out of it all, and it took him decades but now he's here. Also jesus I wish I could afford some of those newer gucci looks omg
Well, the saying "Dapper Dan" has been in existence for some time.
It’s could be regraded as a Jamaican term...”yuh look dappa mi son” or “Mi son a di Dappa” it’s a very common nick name too..yo! Dappa,Daps or Dappa Don !
@capitalismforme who cares
@capitalismforme yeah America is stolen land
Dapper Dan
This was some of the best 8 minutes I've ever spent on youtube. What an education. And this is just the cliff notes version.
Those 8 minutes just flashed by ! I could hear him talk endlessly and still be captivated
He had to cram 30 plus years in 8 minutes! His story needs a helluva more time to be properly told.
This guy is incredible and humble. I once met him in a Gucci store and came away with his business card. Legend.
Everything this man does is fire! Legend in the streets and beyond!
I Love how he narrates the story. Dapper Dan knows Fashion & Style! I would love to see his life story as a mini series.
"Get inside and have a seat at the table" that statement was such a gem being dropped!
I still have all of my Dapper Dan jackets in Louis Vuitton and Gucci print since I was in college in 1989. I know they are probably worth a fortune now!
Legend. He should start his own brand/logo. He doesn't need any of those other labels anymore. He is at a point where he can stand on his own. I would proudly wear his brand.
@capitalismforme bummer
" break Jim Crow barriers in Fashion" wow super powerful!!
@capitalismforme lol....shoe is just on the other foot! If blacks had a dime everytime they were hussled by white folks....
@capitalismforme lmao everything you see has been stolen nothing is original not even your comment
@capitalismforme even with all the opportunities and resources you have available you still couldn’t do what this man has done
It never ended at all. It's just repurposed. Gucci made a antiblack line not too long ago.
This brotha is high fashion in our community, and is one of the best designers in history. We Black Folks know how to survive. Period!
The Europeans hate to see us make it with anything.

I have obviously heard the name “Dapper Dan” my whole life, but I never knew he was a real person. He is truly an inspiration and an icon. I am shook.
@@disoleil1876 no it doesn’t lol, it means surprised, impressed, etc
@@disoleil1876 are you dumb or stupid? Look up “shook” right now on urbrandictionary and it will say “surprised.”
@@disoleil1876 I didn’t need to, I recommended it because it’s a renowned site and you have access to it. Youre dumb and wrong, it’s embarrassing.
@@disoleil1876 clearly you don’t know what “shook” means if you think it only means “scared” 🤣 girl it’s not 1990 anymore
As a Trademark & Patent paralegal I'm in shock at the infringement but I admire the hustle. "$10 worth of vinyl". 🤣
Even Steve Harvey said "you can take $10 and turn it into 1000000!"
I thought the same.
I'm glad you brought it up. I thought about it, but I didn't want to get yelled at by the internet.
So Dapper Dan's fakes were made so well that even Gucci had to pay him. First they tried to ruin him by raiding his business, repeatedly. More great stories like this please!
It's all about the name. It never matters the material.
If you look up 'swag' in the dictionary it says 'Dapper Dan'.
No sir! Dapper Dan doesn't have "Swag"... He has "STYLE"!!! Swag is a trend STYLE is FOREVER!
OKKKKK!!!🗽🗽🗽🗽💯💯❤❤❤
Soo gucci reached out to him after the commotion AFTER taking one of his creations😭💀
They had no choice 🤣
I've always heard people calling each other dapper dan whenever they're dressed nicely or looking good, but wow, never knew he was a real person or even still alive
It took them 30 years and being called out on social media to finally acknowledge this mans genius.
If you enjoyed this 8 minute video then I highly recommend his memoir. Fascinating read about an American original.
Ok
Dapper Dan The Man. Not only is he creative beyond imagination. He is wise, intelligent, and proud. Watch his interview on the Breakfast Club and get ready to receive gems of wisdom.
That's Harlem accent?
Love it 🔥
This man is all sauce!
Dapper Dan is truly a living legend in our lifetime. Salute. 💯
If Dapper Dan didn't re-purpose those materials to create the jackets that he did, who knows what street fashion would look like right now. What we see today is a product of Dapper Dan.
Yasssss! Fosho
Dapper Dan's story is admirable. He is a real legend.
That being said, it is easy to get why he was shut down. As iconic as he was, he was stealing those brands's logos, making bootlegs, selling in Harlem at that time, with mainly drug dealers as clients. He was inventive in his designs but it was the logos that caught people's eyes. I don't know if he would have been famous without the logos but I like that he has a legit voice now.
This video alone shows how much we have evolved as a society. The world has changed in 30 years. The people at the helm of Vuitton, Gucci..etc have changed in 30 years. We have a new generation of designers and clients and even the fact that he tells his story to Vogue shows how much we have evolved as a society.
I don't think LV changed the same way as Gucci, Alessandro Michele is really a genius and has more character than the majority of other top industry designers
i remember watching hip hop documentary’s as a kid and always hearing about dapper dan. a real living legend in the fashion world also the music world
Virgil needa watch this interview
These are the stories we wanna hear
Truly the definition of iconic
A fine example of how Perseverance, Intelligence and Heart can find a way to take you where you most want to go 💜 Much Gratitude, Light, Love and Peace to you Dapper Dan for sharing your inspiring story 💚🌎💚
Dapper Dan's been making his own trends for decade's!!Ofcourse Gucci wanted him.He was doing more for that label.Than they were themselves. He's a creative genius.
Key...
Without Gucci there would be no Dapper Dan. Gucci has been around for over 100 years. He was biting everything they ever made 🤣
@@disoleil1876 Nah he was switching up everything they ever made and put his own style to it then they started biting his style and how would there be no Dapper Dan if there was no Gucci? He just said in the video he was selling mcm,Louie,Fendi, and Gucci. He got the deal with Gucci in 2017……The man was “Dapper Dan” decades before 2017. Everything you commented was literally wrong😂😂🤷♂️
I'm going to need a Netflix series on his life. 🔥
Hey there!☺️..there’s actually a documentary on Netflix called “The Remix, Hip Hop Fashion that discusses all of the amazing Black designers that have contributed to the culture. This is an INCREDIBLE story that needs its own motion picture.
I never heard of Dapper Dan until this video. He’s amazing. His story is amazing.
Dapper Dan influenced me before I even knew who he was. A living legend, truly.
I wonder why Gucci didn't raid Dan when the other labels did. Even though that mercy and their collaboration with Dan are great, it's disappointing that they tried to copy the jacket. But, what else is new in designer fashion?
Bruh he literally stole their designs and printed their prints for his clothing. Let's not pretend he wasn't a thief too.
@@headphonic8 Small thievery should not beget large-scale thievery, and certainly not a privatised raid.
fruity garlic still theft nonetheless

ye23 the logo is still design, he used the colours and the symbols and on account of that he sold his clothes so that's stealing. not that i mind, he started a new era with that and they are overhyped and overpriced
Just finished his memoir, it was truly inspirational.
Amazing story. I loved rap music when in my youth in the 80’ and 90’. Watching Yo MTV Raps. I’ve always wanted the clothes those rappers wore. Seeing street cloth and high fashion come together is a dream come true.

“Being born and broke, was a great asset for me.” Wow not something you hear every day.
