I love technology in worship. Clicks, backing tracks, Ableton automation, they are all amazing tools. But at the end of the day, what I personally believe the body of Christ needs is not for worship to sound like the recording. Or be the most efficient for the team to get through without tripping up, falling out of tempo, or aid having a lack of band members. I think these tools, when used properly, can be a great aid to ushering in the presence of the Holy Spirit by eliminating mistakes that can distract (by assisting bringing in God's presence, I'm thinking of 2 Samuel 6:1-8). I think as tech people, our job should really be to eliminate distractions and get out of the way so that the congregation can worship at the feet of Jesus. I think Churchfront provides an awesome and clear way to implement tools. BUT for churches, please don't let the tools dictate how you worship. Spontaneous worship and prayer is often absent in worship sets these days. And a lot of that is because we are glued to the tools we use. So if the Holy Spirit is leading you to pray, or stay in a chorus, or to not sing any lyrics at all; always follow that lead. It means it's time to turn off the click track, turn off the backing tracks, not worry about the slides being accurate, and worship. Not preform, not provide the best product, but to worship freely without having to focus so heavily on the mechanics. Not throwing the baby out with the bath water with worship tech, it's just something that isn't talked about very much.

Agreed. As someone that does spirit-led/spontaneous worship in a Pentecostal church, my thoughts on using tracks is to only use them if a vital member is missing (keyboards if the keyboard player has to miss, etc.). Even though it's possible to repeat sections of songs, many times a singer, etc. will get a prophetic word and it's kinda on the fly, nothing that can be planned for enough in advance to add a repeat. Our band is good at following that stuff. A click is a different situation, it can DEFINITELY be helpful as nobody's time is perfect.

Budget is always the factor in this case. I'm getting ready to step down as a worship leader at our current church and never had the opportunity to run tracks consistently due to no budget. I did one time by recording all the tracks myself in our home studio and running it through reaper but man that takes time. Hopefully our next position will have that opportunity. It really does fill in the gaps sonically.

There's definitely ways to do this for cheap. But as you said, it's not as efficient. I've done it with zero budget before. It just takes time and planning ahead a lot more.

This is what we use at the church I’m at now and what I’m hoping to use at the church plant we’re planting this fall in Florida. We actually use the whole connected stage. Being able to sync up ChartBuilder live with the tracks is amazing. Also love that the licensing is also directly integrated in and we don’t have to report.

Hey Jake, my name is Mayowa Joshua, I've been following your channel for as long as I can remember and I've learnt soooooo much. Thanks for the knowledge you share. Also, I know your videos are always of great production value, but this feels just all the more refined and just better, any changes in cameras or lens?

Currently use playback with all of their add-ons. For the small to medium sized church I can’t recommend them enough. 2k a year let’s me do as much as me and another staff person at previous churches. Yes it’s not cheap. But it’s way less time spent working on tracks/charts/slides, etc. so it’s not “cheaper”. It’s just that the you’re paying in money instead of time. And my time is worth way more than the money I’d save if I was doing everything myself.

Thanks Jake, for the updated video on clicks and tracks. Would love to implement this for my church, but the greatest challenge is that it is a non-English congregation, and multi-tracks are non-existent for the songs that we sing (e.g. Stream of Praise). We will just move ahead with IEM and then see what that leads us next.

Hi Jake, great and informative video. We use Studio One to run tracks at my church. We've been using it for about a year now. They have this feature on the show page. I'll love if you check it out and make a video on it. I want to know if it's worth still getting Ableton Live. Great video as always.

Hey Jake would we need to get 2 sessions of Ableton and two computers to synchronize lights with the Ableton track on stage? Is it possible to sync two sessions of Ableton?

Hi Jake, If I want the background video playing in perfect timing with instruments. is there any way that I can make the video including backing track, guide, and click? then how can I playback in ProPresenter? In my case, guitarist was playing the backing track on Logic on the stage, and video guy back in the hall was controlling the Propresenter. If i want to make both guitarists, and propresenter can control the backing track, sound console has to have 8 input?
how would you do if you were in this case?

Hi my name is Logan and I'm a drummer & beginner AV technician on my worship arts team. Our church is new to using Chart Builder and Multitracks. I follow yall on TikTok and your AV videos have been very helpful to our new team. We are trying to figure out how to incorporate a stage monitor for the vocalists to help them with timing and lyrics with using chart builder. I am trying to figure out how to display it to a TV and bypass the "Screen Capture Detected" disclaimer when I mirror our iPad using Airplay. What can I do? Thank you and really look forward to hearing from you. God Bless 🙌 🙏

We usually do one of two things: Either redo one of the songs from the worship set quieter or do instrumentals. Eliminates that altogether.
