Joseph Smitherman I was going to say I think he is technically a “hire on” like the stones is technically just jagger and Richards but the rest are paid extremely well hired ons. I think slipknot even does that with Corey and clown being the only actual members. GNR wasn’t originally that way but after everyone kept over dosing and blowing out organs from drinking axl made everyone sign a contract saying axl owns the band name and all that good stuff.

This song is the introductory to the plot of American Idiot as a concept album. It follows the character of the Jesus of Suburbia, who leaves his small town to venture off into the big city and make a new life for himself.
Along his travels he meets and falls in love with a girl named Whatsername, but coincidentally develops the alter-ego of St. Jimmy who tempts him into a life of drugs and self-destruction. Eventually Whatsername decides she can't put up with it anymore and dumps Jesus, which shocks him back into the reality he needs to kill his alter-ego and return back to his small town life. The plot's pretty loose, but that's the basic gist of it.
For classic Green Day, check out "Welcome to Paradise". For something a little more out there, check out "Misery".

Bands like SOAD, Slipknot, Staind and all that between 1999-2005. The ones after me still were rock based. But i think nowadays there’s not many light on Rock N’ Roll. This album spoke to me when I was 12/13 living out in the desert of California. The multiple parts of the song for me was the journey of disillusionment. The first part is the current state of the youth but trying to find something for themselves. Part two is the youth looking around their local area and seeing that there are others in the same spiral of going nowhere. Part three is pushing back against the current state of their world. Part four is someone trying to intervene, trying to say this "suburbia" is all they will ever have and to conform to the broken home. Part five is finally being feed up with the situation and leaving the house. Everything they are told, everything they have done is a lie as far as they can see. Better to run and find truth then to "die in tragedy." With this view of the song, I hope others can see why this made sense to a half Asian living in Death Valley, California. Hope this was helpfully.

Billie doesn’t like being put in “pop punk” and to me it’s not really in that genre cause the songs isn’t usually about the norm it’s against what most people would agree with it doesn’t fit everybody but you should also react to 21 guns, American idiot, basket case, boulevard of broken dreams, wake me up when September ends, know your enemy those are their most know.

Green Day are my favourite band of all time, and have been since 2005. I can understand why this may seem a bit all over the place, but it's telling a story and each part is reflective of the parts of the story.
As a lonely, angry kid growing up in suburban Ireland, this song, and the entire American Idiot record, really gave me a feeling of belonging and hope.
I'd love to see you react to more Green Day, especially their less known stuff (Macy's Day Parade, X-Kid, Brain Stew, Whatsername, Letterbomb, J.A.R, to name very few).
Also please check out their Bullet in a Bible videos, they're an incredible live band.

This song is part of the American Idiot album and it really starts the concept story of the album to establish a character known as St. Jimmy who becomes the basis of the entire album henceforth

The song is about the Jesus of suburbia and basically he is living his life as a generic punk teen who then realizes that his life in a small town is too simple . After that he realizes that he just straight up stopped caring about things because “everyone’s so full of sh!t” then it hits him basically he is overwhelmed by this new idea this “dearly beloved are you listening I can’t remember a word that you where saying.” And “ Am I retarded or am I just over joyed.” This idea is revealed as him needing to leave his home.
