  • Yoga wheels are all the rage in the yoga community. For those of you who have not yet experienced them for yourself, the magic may not be fully understood. Yoga wheels are in the spotlight in the yoga scene because they offer an inspiringly diverse range of uses.
    For this yoga wheel tutorial, we are using Yoloha’s beautiful Chakras Cork Yoga Wheel which you can snag on their website here: bit.ly/1RFcB3k
    Just like a bolster or block feels good supporting your spine, yoga wheels can do the same - but offer the added benefit of movement. You can roll the wheel up and down the length of your spinal column to massage the spine, and/or find a static hold of a heart-opening backbend to help counteract the negative effects of hunching over a computer screen, cell phone, or steering wheel all day.
    Speaking of heart-opening, yoga wheels also help open your entire front body, from your shoulders, chest and abdomen, and even your hips. This helps alleviate hunching and rounding that contributes to bad posture, and creates more space in these areas for increased range of motion and decreased tension and tightness.
    Yoga wheels make a great support system as you work to deepen your practice. They can aid in going deeper in backbends, they help you gain more flexibility, and are also effectively strengthen (all demonstrated in the video tutorial). Looking to cultivate more balance in your yoga practice? The yoga wheel has you covered there too, bridging strength and flexibility for a full mind-body challenge.

    This set comes with 5 bands of varying resistance, a storage bag, czcams.com/users/postUgkxS7ex6L4sMqpaTn4LnBPyBmRQsSingL8y a small pamphlet with some sample exercises, and an access code for an online workout video. I haven't viewed the online video, so I cannot speak to the quality of that piece of the set. However, everything else is perfect for what I was looking for. The bands are durable, and the resistance strength varies enough between bands that they're each useful for different exercises and provide a great challenge as you gradually increase the resistance level for certain exercises. The only band I don't use very often is the lowest resistance band, but even that is nice for exercises that target weaker/seldom used muscle groups.

    • @youaligned
      @youaligned  Před 6 lety +1

      Hey Lisa! Thank you for watching and great question! As with anything in our yoga practice, our bodies will tell us when something isn't right and we need to back off. So if you have any pain or injuries in the lumbar spine, you want to take it slow and keep it safe. If not, then you can certainly use the wheel to gently massage or lengthen the low back. I'm happy to answer any further questions you may have! Namaste, Ashton from YogiApproved

    Hello and thank you for your calming and beautiful video. I realize you are not a doctor when I ask my question. I have DDD with myofascial back pain of the neck and back - herniated discs in neck and lower back and piriformis syndrome which travels from my right lower back straight down my leg to right above my knee -similar to sciatia. I have been working very hard for the past 3 years with P/T, chiropractor and acupuncture. I am 45 but in my younger days I was very active and could do fabulous backbends from both standing and mat positions. I was no olympian but I was a gymnast, a diver and swimmer. I worked out 5 days a week for 2 hours a day. Then I woke up one day about 8 years ago with pain all over. It hurt to bend and tie my shoes. Tomorrow I have an appointment with my chiropractor to look at my most recent X-rays and I plan to ask her opinion on whether using a yoga wheel is a good idea. I truly believe it is and I am also quite ready to take the next step. I really want to be me again. My question is about the size of the yoga wheel. Here goes ... I am 5 feet tall. Is a smaller diameter better for a beginner or larger? My first opinion was larger but now as I watch your video I am thinking a smaller diameter would be best. My logic is telling me that a larger diameter would put more of a strain on my spine as I slowly lean back. Any info you can share with me is greatly appreciated. I am going to show my chiropractor your video too when we have our talk.

    • @youaligned
      @youaligned  Před 7 lety

      Hello Kristen,
      Thank you for sharing your story, and for your questions. We apologize for the delayed response. First off, we wonder what your chiropractor thought about you using a yoga wheel, since they know more about your specific condition, etc.?
      With that being said, a smaller size may be a good place to start as a general recommendation for someone wanting to ease into yoga wheels gently and slowly. The main question is whether your spine is ready for backbending again, etc. which is best determined by your licensed healthcare professional. Best wishes!

    This is not* for beginners, obviously. So everyone else would need to be easy on their back, support themselves rather than let the wheel break our backs, hah. Test out the wheel with your own back and forth movements, go VERY slowly, as your hands will not want to be stretched exactly like her's or too legs even, too wide... VERY slowly, peeps.

      While we are by no means medical professionals, and always advise consulting your doctor/chiropractor, yoga wheels are designed to create more space in the backbody. In other words, you may find that yoga wheels are a nice way to decompress and create more space in your spinal column.

      Hello noirprncess,
      One great stretch to start with is to come into a low lunge position (back knee planted) and rest the back foot on the yoga wheel for a modified King Arthur's Pose - a great way to stretch the quads.
      Also - watch the pose on this video starting at 2.30. This is another great quad stretch.
      Enjoy! -Ashton from YogiApproved

      Hey Minarose, I am practicing with the small 10" wheel in this video (yolohayoga.com/product/chakras-cork-yoga-wheel-small/). Yoloha also offers a 12" wheel. Here's what they say about which size is best:
      The 10″ wheel is designed for users with a petite frame and a height of 5’6″ and under. The wheel is narrower than our 12″ wheel to better fit between your shoulder blades and a smaller diameter to make backbends easier.
      The 12″ wheel is designed as the optimal height in backbends for users with a height of 5’7″ and up. Thank you for watching and commenting! -Ashton from YogiApproved

      Saw an ad for the chirp wheel. They have a may special. $99 for all three sizes plus an upper body posture corrector free. And their wheels have a groove for your spine so you're not putting pressure directly on your vertebrae. Oh, and I bought it myself. Are you that controlling that your wife can't buy her own?

      @youaligned  Před 5 lety +1

      Hello Shiloe, thank you for your question! Do you mean a smaller sized yoga wheel? If so, some of the same movements taught here can be done on a different sized wheel, but others depend on the actual size of your wheel.
