  • Landscape photography carries it's own risks, be they fall and trip hazards, wet and treacherous paths or in this case a steep and rocky climb down to a stone bowl and an incoming tide.
    Safety first... always have an escape plan, just in case. But the rewards! An iconic location that has never failed to deliver atmospheric and photogenic possibilities.

    Ooooh Izzy, you are always living on the edge a bit! But yes, you got the reward with your mastery of techniques. What a fabulous location! In the last shot I noticed that someone has somehow put a ladder out on the rocks, Crazy.

      Thank you very much Juanita, I really do fee privileged with your ongoing support 🙏. As for the ladder I have known about it for a few years but I still haven't figured out how to get around there and explore. Would have to be a very low tide I assume... maybe next time. Have a great week 🙏🙏🙏

    Truly spectacular photos, and I can't stop thinking of "Groot" as the rock's name! The base is looking a little eroded, and I hope I can get there before it can no longer withstand the pounding it's getting. (One of the 12 Apostles succumbed a few years back.) I liked the first of the two images (@ 5:00-ish) more for the clouds and the wave formations. Looking at the cliffs and hearing you say you'd be going down, I thought, "I think that's beyond me," but then I saw there was a path and then thought, "That's not so bad!" But if I do get there, I'll decide on the day. (I am not good with heights, and watching your clip on the Pinnacles @ Phillip Island, I feel uncertain about that, too.) And like other commenters, I saw that ladder on the right-hand side of the picture. That was...unexpected.

    • @IzzyAbuleelaPhotography
      @IzzyAbuleelaPhotography  Před 7 měsíci

      Cheers Mick, yeah Groot is engrained in my mind too 😂. The path down is a little steep in places (not as steep or as long as the Pinnacles path though) but easy to manage if you take your time, and well worth the effort in my opinion. Just don't attempt it in the wet! The ladder is a mystery... if I time it right on my next visit (low tide) I might try and investigate. Have a great week buddy 🙏🙏🙏

    Wonderful location Izzy and good work again. Love the tonal and textural variation of the vegetation in the foreground of the images taken from the top. The glaucous foliage of Leucophyta brownii really adds interest. It makes you feel lucky to be in Australia as we are blessed with some great coastal scenery. And the chances are you will see no other photographers (or people for that matter) in a location like this - a far cry from many similar locations in Europe and North America.

    • @IzzyAbuleelaPhotography
      @IzzyAbuleelaPhotography  Před 7 měsíci

      Thank you Dane, glad you enjoyed the adventure, and I'm impressed that you recognised the foliage too. I have been here about 6 or 7 times and only ever seen one other photographer, its a bit of a hike with easier locations about 20 minutes up the coast so I think it's still off the radar a little bit. Thanks for your support and comments. Have a great week 🙏🙏🙏

    Do you know how lucky you are in geologic time to be alive to photograph this magic rock while it is still standing? A truly spectacular location that, as always, yielded another amazing collection of photos. I had a chuckle and an eye roll at the "postcardy" commemt. Sure, not as dramatic as the 2nd location, but still a lovely composition and fantastic image. Well done my friend, thanks ror sharing this amazing location. Hope you are well pal, have a wonderful week!

    • @IzzyAbuleelaPhotography
      @IzzyAbuleelaPhotography  Před 7 měsíci +1

      Thank you buddy, I had a little giggle too, I find the larger landscapes more difficult to capture rather than the more intimate shots so it's a fair criticism. Art is subjective after all 😊. Every time I head there I am relieved 'old Groot' is standing and then I hope that I am the one to photograph it should it splinter and fall... imaging that (so long as I'm not in the middle of a long exposure that is 😂. hope you and the family have a great week Paul 🙏🙏🙏

    Thank you once again for a wonderful video. Great lesson about taking that extra to "paint the light in" What a difference it makes! Thank you as always Helen, its only a little trick but it can transform some dull long exposure images (and I prefer it to the tried and trusted dodge and burn). See you next time. Have a great week 🙏🙏🙏

    Certainly a stunning location, especially at sea level. I'd have preferred a portrait at a longer focal length from up top to give the rock more prominence but you probably shot that before or you're 20-35 is glued on :-)

      @IzzyAbuleelaPhotography  Před 7 měsíci +1

    What an amazing location. Well worth the climb down and what looks like a lung busting climb up again. I always try to take a short exposure to give me the ability to paint in highlight and shadow detail, it can really lift a LE and create more depth. Great images again mate and btw, that's some bad hat.

    • @IzzyAbuleelaPhotography
      @IzzyAbuleelaPhotography  Před 7 měsíci

      Cheers Tony, the path up isn't too bad, quite steep in parts but thankfully quite short. You could mimic the light using dodge ad burn but, much like you, I like the challenge of capturing as much of the environment out in the field. Have a great week matey 🙏🙏🙏

    Maybe it’s the Pinot slushing around in my somewhat addled brain but I was underwhelmed by the first half of the Vlog, the foreground seemed to dominate the image just making me think oh. But once you’d risked life and limb and got the close up shots of that rapidly eroding rock I was just wowed. Well done Iz

The long exposure shot wins for ( im a long exposure fan anyway), and thank you for that tip with the extra shot to add the light etc to the shot, will be having a go at that next time. Great video Izzy - thanks for sharing 👏👏 I haven't shot this one yet but it's on my ever-growing list, ha ha! I particularly like how you lead the viewer through your thought processes and your shot at 18:25 was quite sublime. May I ask what the tide situation was when you were there? Low/high or somewhere in between? Can't believe I wasn't subscribed previously - you have a new sub 😀

    • @IzzyAbuleelaPhotography
      @IzzyAbuleelaPhotography  Před 6 měsíci

      Cheers Brian, I'm pretty stoked to have you along 🙏. It is definitely a draw card location if you are ever at the tail end of the Great Ocean Road. The tide was on its way in (about half way when I left). I definitely prefer a retreating tide, although you can still access the bottom at high tide you just have to shoot from those large boulders at my back. The only concern you might have is if the wind is 'in your face' as the shape of the cliffs funnels everything directly at you and you might have some real issues with spray. Apart from that its a wonderfull spot. Have a great week 🙏🙏🙏

  • @petercowley8657
    @petercowley8657 Před 7 měsíci +2

    Please take this with positive intent. Nice blog Izzy, but to be honest I don't get the final images in the first half of the video. They seem a bit "postcardy". The second view, from down the cliff are 1000% better. I would like to understand why you use a graduated filter when post processing will give you a similar result with more flexibility.

    • @IzzyAbuleelaPhotography
      @IzzyAbuleelaPhotography  Před 7 měsíci

      Thank you Peter and i don't take any offence at all. Art and photography is subjective, it has to connect and 'talk' to you. I also find I need to work hard with the larger landscape images (postcardy is probably a fair description 😂). As for the grad filter, its purely because I like to try and capture as much of the final image in the field... it's as much a challenge as anything else. Have a great week 🙏🙏🙏
