    It's amazing how matches just below the very top level can actually look better. The amount of brilliant rallies in this match is just unreal!

    • @yudistiraliem135
      @yudistiraliem135 Před rokem +8

      The almost pro people are still in the path of perfecting their “basic” technique. When you are at the very top for example Ma Long, one of the training are to kill any ball as long as they aren’t fall in the table with discourage rally. Even Xu Xin didn’t master it at the start of his career, he would push semi long backspin ball and Liu corrected that mistake. The other that you see is not to telegraph their move, act like you want to push and change at the last milisecond for example.
      Also this is what I learn from Adam vs pro video, that Adam can block pro shot almost as good as semi pro, as in he can get to the ball, but against pro only 1/3 of the ball he blocked return to the table.
      Ma Long, Wang Liqin etc kept talking about this, they have many shots that looks almost the same but have different spin in it. You got to have that kind of shot at the very top to discourage safe play from your opponent.

      It's probably partly due to the camera angle... you can hardly get such angles in top matches...

    • @turbozed
      @turbozed Před rokem +4

      I've noticed that too. Longer rallies and easier to follow the dynamics of great non-pros. The pros just hit the ball with a higher amount of speed, but that small speed difference edges balls into unreturnable territory just because of the human limits of reaction timing. It's like a 90mph being trackable but 100 mph fastball not being trackable for hitters in baseball. Difference of miliseconds or fractions of miliseconds.

    Hi Seth - Great video as always. I've really become a fan of your match analysis as I find it very helpful with my game. Also - a guy named Phil came into the table tennis club I recently opened in Portsmouth NH (Seacoast Table Tennis). We got to talking about things we try to do to try to get better, at pong and I mentioned that I watch your channel. He laughed and said that he was a childhood friend of yours and that you used to play pong together when you were kids. Small world. That said, IF you are ever in the Boston area and IF you wanted to reconnect with your childhod buddy, you could always come to my club and do a demo :).

    Great match and great session! I would really appreciate some thoughts on match flow sometimes. Like for example the last set you were 9:3 up and it somehow ended in deuce points. It would be interesting (for me at least) to hear your thoughts on such situations (flow changes)..

    • @PechPongTT
      @PechPongTT  Před rokem +1

      Hey thanks! Yeah flow changes are a real thing very psychological. Brad Gilbert talked about it in his book “Winning Ugly” he says it’s very common for players to not be able to push leads only a few players can do this consistently. For me the main thing I was trying to do was to stay positive and keep thinking and just mentally hold on!! Haha

  • @rileywoo
    @rileywoo Před rokem

    Hey Seth, great video! Do you know how long the return board would roughly last/are the rubbers... replaceable? Also, do you ever do FH training on it? It seemed like the video had only BH drills.

    • @PechPongTT
      @PechPongTT  Před rokem +2

      Hey I’m not sure how long it would last, I would think maybe 1 year if you used it every other day and maybe two years if you only did like 2 times a week this is just a guess. The rubbers do look to be replaceable. I did backhand only because it was mainly in response to one of the viewers who wanted to see my backhand practice routine with the board.

    • @PechPongTT
      @PechPongTT  Před rokem +1

      If I want to change down the line I must place the ball very wide as well as with some pace which is something Im not 100% comfortable with against this level if I don’t then they will get a free strong forehand, if I play decent diagonal then I don’t have to worry about them finishing the point so it’s more of a safe move on both our parts that levels the playing field for both players

    • @PechPongTT
      @PechPongTT  Před rokem

      I will be making a video on robots and how to practice on them as well as different ones you can buy, I personally use the powerpong robot as it has the ability to do so many really awesome drills that fill in the gaps of my practice. If you would like I can give you a discount code for it as I have teamed up with the owner.

    You were 9-3 and later 10-7 up.
    You should have closed out the match.
    When you are that much up, one mistake on your opponents's part will end the match, hence they will try to be as safe as possible.
    You have to just wait for your chance.

    This was an amazing match.
    I can see you are really good at keeping you weight in the middle even when moving left and right during rallies hence the fast movement.
    One tip you could like in backhand straight shot.
    You can use Harimoto backhand straight which adds left side spin to straight ball making it harder to catch.
