    Welcome to my Austin Mini Mayfair 998 Automatic restoration. This project car was bought from e-bay in July 2020, my intentions are to carry out a light restoration and make the car the best it can be while keeping it completely original. The end result will be a time warp back to 1984 and the car will look like it has just left the showroom.
    This Mini Mayfair is rare in that it has only covered 12,000 miles since new, only 330 miles per year! The shell is almost completely rust free and has never been welded or had any panels replaced.

    Cracking job on the grill despite the cramped conditions in the potting shed!! That mini looks like a really good buy I’m looking forward to you getting to grips in the engine bay as that seems to be the only real area where the car looks a little grubby.
    Take Care Stay Safe Everyone Regards Dave

    Looks great Keith! Sorry should have said but I’m andy whitelaw, you probably seen me comment before, but started this channel for my mini sunny, we need to finish the garage before we start the car, need dry weather now to do the roof so while we waiting made a tandoor oven today lol, let’s see how good it is tomorrow!

      Just to add, I bet you felt your eyes after painting that, I bet that sting! Protect your eyes mate! If you watch my video today you’ll see I wear full face visor when using grinder but it’s all going right into my friends face when I’m cutting😂😂😂 hindsight eh? Lol we should both have put on the mask I have there, my throat and nose was full of red dust

      Cool, thanks. Good luck with the new channel. I never really noticed any eye sting from spraying although I'm only usually spraying small parts at a time and I leave the garage/shed when drying. However it's a different story spraying 2K. Hammerite do recommend goggles/glasses to protect against splashes but I don't think the fumes are harmful on eyes reading the MSDS

    To get the matching black door mirrors, search for M68990E & M68991E at mini spares as imho the black ones from Alex Toon would look to 90s on a 80s car...

    Not sure if it helps but my 1984 city has the arches riveted on with silver rivets and the same colour arch so yours could be original. I know mine are as per factory. Good tips on the grill, I have the same to refurb.

    Hiya keith- I agree. Looks like you just got a new grill delivered. Great job! Tardis was a good little buy I think. Hope your well.

    Great Work on the grille, looks amazing! For future reference, brake cleaner would have got the badge off no problem too. What did you use to stick the badge back on with?

    • @classicminiworkshop
      @classicminiworkshop  Před 3 lety

      When I heated the back up the glue came off completely with the badge so there was no residue left over. It was still very sticky so I just warmed it up again and refitted with the existing glue. It's stuck on just as well

    Need a bigger shed Keith 😊 i have the W & P arches on mine and as you probs know these are screwed thru the lip? I regularly pump cavity wax behind the arch to keep the rust away

    • @classicminiworkshop
      @classicminiworkshop  Před 3 lety

      Yep, you are right, I need a bigger shed. If I get one big enough I could get another car :)

  • @philtucker1224
    @philtucker1224 Před 3 lety +2

    Keith maybe next time you spray something in your shed, try aiming it front to back, not side to side! You’ll have more room mate!

    • @classicminiworkshop
      @classicminiworkshop  Před 3 lety +1

      Yes, pretty sure it's the same grille as a Jet Black/Red Hot, just a different badge. Not sure where to get one though, they are getting rare

    Keith, Great job on the grille, A larger tappered hole bigger than the dent in a flat piece of wood may have popped out the dent
    in the headlight ring as it looks a bit flat now, As you say there not expensive to replace but i wonder about the quality of new
    stock especially chrome or brightwork. Cheers Dave

    Like what you did on the grill. What grade of scotchbrite did you use and what was the cleaner for the paintwork please?

    Loving Tardis so far mate. My jet blacks slowly getting there. More of a winter project really. I was just wandering is this the same grille that would be on the jet black/red hot?? Know if any good places to find one??

      LOL, it's not quite as good as Marks. A lick of paint will have it looking just as good 👍😂
