Pulse is one of our most basic forms of musicality in lindy hop. It keeps us in sync with our partner, makes our footwork more precise, and helps to embody that swingin' rhythm section iconic to our music. Here's what I think about to make my pulse possible. If it's tricky at first, don't worry - just keep dancing and it'll happen.

Your comment about having a basic posture from which you bounce down really gave me an aha moment! Thanks Laura!!

Good stuff Laura....especially love the "bounce down". I keep having to remind new dancers about that when I"m teaching. Makes a huge difference.

It was very clear, thank you! Next I'd like to know how you apply these bouncing kinds to different steps, like kick-ball-change or charlseton.

Hey Laura, thanks for the video. I just started Lindy in a beginner class and I have the biggest problem with synchronizing my triple steps even on slow beats. (Sorry if I mess up the nomenclature). I can synchronize two steps/rock steps just fine but triple steps just wont work. I tried counting, but if I am focused on that, I cannot focus on the second step of triple step.
I gladly take any advice you can give me regarding practice to get better.
It always looks so easy and fun, but actually doing it is a lot harder and gives me more and more frustration. I am afraid I will loose my motivation over this and just stop.
Thanks in advance for your advice. Appreciate it a lot.

Great video Laura! Thank you so much. Sort question, I realized you dance on the ball of your feet. It is also fine using the whole of your foot when shifting your body? Is it actually a different technique? Cheers!

Such a great question. Honestly, I feel like you should do whatever works best for you. By best, I mean, however you're most nimble / balanced. For me, that's definitely the front part of my foot MOST of the time, but if I'm dancing to slower music, I'll roll through my entire foot. If I'm doing traveling charleston, a lot of the times my heel will hit the floor first because of the way my leg is extended. I say it's always important to explore your body and notice what makes it feel capable and strong.
