  • HEY THERE, TRASH FANS, LOOKING FOR A GOOD TIME? WELL, YOU’RE IN LUCK!
VHS Trash Fest and Physical Impossibility have joined forces especially for Scalarama 2016 in order to bring you an eye-wateringly trashy and uproariously funny TRIPLE BILL of VHS madness this September! Descending on The Old Hairdressers on the evening of Friday 9th, this VHS-only event celebrates the 40th birthday of the VCR, (first launched on 9th September 1976), also coincidentally in the year Japan will stop VCR production FOR EVER. There has never been a better time to dust off the old VCR and find out what VHS trash delights await!
The programme schedule is as follows:
    7.30pm - Get Crazy (1983)
A musical comedy from the directer of Rock ‘n’ Roll High School and Heartbeeps, never on DVD and out-of-print since the 1980s! Get Crazy stars Malcolm McDowell as Reggie Wanker, a thinly-veiled piss-take of Mick Jagger, and Lou Reed as Auden, a Bob Dylan parody. The cast is rounded out by members of The Turtles, Fear, Kid Creole and the Coconuts and lots of Arkush/Joe Dante regulars, including Paul Bartel, Mary Woronov, Dick Miller and Robert Picardo. According to its director, Get Crazy is “a movie with 3,000 punch lines, but only 1,000 jokes…It’s just too bizarre.”
    9.15pm - Night of the Creeps (1986)
From the guy that brought you The Monster Squad and RoboCop 3, Night of the Creeps is Fred Dekker’s directorial debut, featuring alien brain parasites invading a college campus and transforming their teenage victims into the walking dead! Who you gonna call? Uh, lucky college freshmen Chris and JC are on hand to battle the slug beasts and save their dates!
    11pm - Blood Diner (1987)
One of the most underrated horror comedies you’ve probably never heard of, director Jackie Kong’s cult masterpiece is long overdue a resurgence. Loosely based on Herschell Gordon Lewis’ Blood Feast, Blood Diner brings an 80s update to the story of two cannibalistic occult brothers serving up body parts to their unsuspecting vegetarian diner clientele. The film’s tagline? “First they greet you, then they eat you!” Not to be missed…
In addition to this trash trio of mayhem, we’ll be playing grindhouse trailers in between the features, hosting a VHS giveaway, and running a free VHS Swap Shop upstairs at The Old Hairdresser’s from 6pm on the night. Tickets per film only £4.50 each, with a £10 Trash Trio Ticket if you think you can stomach all three! Remember trash fans, keep it trashy and support your local video store!
