  • Satisfactory is one of my favorite games of all time. In this video we will dive into what makes Satisfactory such a great game and why it is so easy to sink hundred of hours into it without feeling like you've even scratched the surface of what the game has to offer. If you like factory and automation games like satisfactory remember to subscribe to the channel for more content like this. Thank you all for watching and I'll se you in the next video.

MY personal theory about automation as a genere is just that it never feels like you are at a good "break point"
sure you may have just unlocked a annoying milestone in satisfactory, but look, now you get tier 3 conveyors and miners mk2, do you really wanna leave without trying your new toys?
and i mean... it is only really trying if you can automate them at least a little. and the circle continus until its 5 am.
Satisfactory however always had one thing few other Automation games offer to me. Understandable numbers. sure i might get a 4 lane stacked steel belt with 270 items throughput each, but what am i using that for? like 15 stators a minute 60 steal beams a minute and some other small numbers in different things. Comapare that to factorio where the average item stacks to 100 and the average train carries 4k per wagon in a system that runs a multible trains per minute. The smaller amount of production per space makes it feel... less dauting even if there are difficulties.
However i will always stay true to factorio for the endless amount of customizeability and the existence of a super solid logic system

I have put over 200+ hours into the game... I gave it a fair chance.... but I hated it. It takes ages to get anything done... the distances.... the lack of terrain tools... lots of things don't properly align... the awful GUI.... the extremely limited blueprint system... no wonder why people often install mods (which is risky) in an attempt to fix some of these flaws.

    Counterpoints for me specifically:
Satisfactory has way too much jank that gets in the way for me.
    * Power system is inaccurate; producing 50mw is not enough to satisfy a grid that takes 50mw and blows the fuse.
    * Speed modules are non-automatable, which is fine for resources you transition out of early on like wood in factorio or biomass in this, but something as useful as speed modules should be automatable.
    * Enemies are roadbumps and exist for the sake of having enemies. They add nothing to the game, though I've heard rumblings they're working on adding wave-defence like in Factorio or DSP.
    * Not building top-down hurts a lot and slows the game to a crawl, relative to other games. The snap system requires you to consistently break out hacks and tricks to get curves or non-grid shapes.
    * Smaller point; you can't see what recipes a building's making without interacting with it.
    * Blueprints feel like a crime towards other blueprint mechanics, factorio & DSP both have an excellent system for this, but Satisfactory's blueprint doesn't even snap with itself; you have to manually add power & belts.
    * Vehicles & their programmable paths are a really cool concept but just end up being janky; they basically admit the system isn't good enough by making them phase through terrain if they get stuck (which they do, even when they really shouldn't be getting stuck).
    * Rail pieces behave stupidly, with some corners/bends not being possible unless you chop it in two. Trains as well seem inflexible but that's obviously with me coming from factorio where a M:M system is more than possible in vanilla. (Arguably trains being inflexible is not the end of the world and maybe a bit too demanding)
In your video you adress efficiency as something that makes satisfactory awesome, which I hope you don't mean *only* satisfactory.
Personally as well, I don't really like the open world aspect; i feel like it distracts too much from the factory building portion. Though I know there's plenty of people disagree with this, so I don't mind as much.
It just feels like the game does not really respect the time you put in, other games have tools that let you build more factory, faster, but satisfactory really doesn't. Besides the budget blueprint system.
Despite the janky requirement to use tricks and hacks, building is just fun and I agree with that point fully.
I feel like a lot of the points you've made apply to other automation games too, if not more.

What I don't get is why this doesn't click with me. I love factorio and DSP. I love the blueprints.
Satisfactory feels tedious, because the blueprinting is basically not available (too limited to be useful to me).
BUT I do love stationeers, which is on a whole different level of tedium than satisfactory. Somehow satisfactory falls in this inbetween zone, between convenience and scale, and the tedium mattering to make the simulation feel deep.
I tried getting into it a couple times but I keep bouncing off. It keeps puzzling me. I occasionally click such videos to see if it gets me excited, but somehow it doesn't work.
