Now, here is the big question: how do you get you're first release and what labels should you be looking for as an unsigned producer? Especially, if you are under age...
@Adam AL I am 30 I was so set on getting signed when I was 21. I got my self a contract and didnt read it. They took everything and I didn't receive anything. Mind you the music was mehh. Make sure you have a good product.. learn mixing techniques and if possible mastering. as well have a good product
@Adam AL Make good music. I uploaded my first track to Soundcloud back in 2011 and a label approached me. Maybe I was luck,y but write good music & the rest will happen without much effort IF you make that good track 1st. I like a lot your channel, I have improved with sending music in record labels and the way to get a booking agent for gigs. I think the way for any artist of underground music is producing a lot of music, well mixed and mastered and send in record labels with same style and similar sound. I have not yet a Booking agent but i think this is the way, producing a lot of good music and try to get in to top Beatport often.

It'd be nice to see an example of what one of those emails look like. I can't imagine an email that's sent to a label (and no one in particular) being 'personal.' It seems nonsensical as well since it does indeed come down to the track itself as you said.

Just while it is fresh in my head -here is a video idea if you think its worthy. Can you do a video on the question - 'Can you be a DJ without being a producer?' and/or how far can you expect to go as a DJ without producing perhaps? just a thought.

Another great video Jon! I know you've heard my track "Rewind" and thank you for the feedback. It has gain some exposure now on Spotify. I haven't released it to any label yet, because I feel that the work I have put in myself is gaining exposure to people in my area now (Norway). My question is this, are there cases where a track has gain exposure and it's discovered by a label? and in that case what should one do if this happens?
Hi, Jon. First of all, I love your helpful videos. Second, I made a track that sounds great, and submitted it as a demo properly. It’s basically mastered since I’m not an expert at it, and I did not indicate unmastered though I almost did.
I didn’t send a demo attachment on the email; otherwise it’s really hurt my chances.
I never send unfinished tracks ever in my life. And was kind and polite to the owner’s/A&R manager by writing this.
Example: (Hi! My name is Ivan Milenin. I am a DJ and songwriter, and have been making music for about a year. I’m 18 years old, and was born in Moscow, Russia, now living in New York City, United States. I would like to submit a demo to Perfecto Records, with a trance with uplifting rolling baseline. [Ivan the Dictator - Track Title (Original Mix)] [private soundcloud link]. Take your time you need to answer if you think this track is great. Thanks for listening! Have a great day. signature).
After this comprehensive but proper email, I put a private SoundCloud link on the email, and enable the download for them to access it in a private link.
It indicates that it will contact me in a couple of weeks if they like what they here. After a couple of weeks, no reply. So the rule says that they are welcome to send a reminder after a week or so. But, the label probably turned me down, and made me send it to the other label, Damaged Records, another trance label, just to be sure that I don’t want to annoy them. Of course, I never intended to cc them, or I’ll be in a lot of trouble.
Hopefully they will accept, but what happens if my demo gets rejected again? Will my efforts be wasted? What went wrong? Would I be blocked if I send them to multiple labels? How to possibly fix the error in a demo submission?

thanks a lot good that the tips helped it's most of the time not you doing something wrong but these labels get 100 of track every day. it's hard for them to keep up

So I came to your channel to see if I could find info on submitting demos. I may have some opportunities to play out in Spain at some small venues. The promoters are looking for demos but aren't being very specific. I'm planning to make three 30 min sets to make available in different styles. Ill find out what happens. I am not a producer just an aspiring DJ.
Thank you Jon. Super useful. Why the track shouldn’t be mastered? Will the label take care of that? I’d like to send a complete work, mixed and mastered. In case the master doesn’t satisfy the label, I can send just the mix, as I am the composer, producer, mixing and mastering guy... No, I don’t know how to make coffee 😁
A record label found me recently and I went through the process and everything, they are signing me they discovered me on SoundCloud and they loved what they heard.

Hello Jon.. we’re working on serious project never had been submitted to anyone.. it’s about a concept album.. in prog Rock genre.
What I can send you is a finished product (although mixed ) and mastered Tracks .
Want to have your opinion at least on one track and will explain the whole concept.

I have sent out my track to 6 labels now. Not even a single response with a generic "not the direction we are headed." All I want is a response. The only response was Jerome Isma-Ae and he said the track was good.... That's why Jerome is the man but just wondering why I haven't heard back from any labels??
they usually listen to most stuff they get but won't reply. totally normal nowadays
labels only reply when they're interested, that seems to be standard procedure.

Hey Jon, hast du Erfahrung mit Selbstpublishing über Aggregatoren wie CDBaby? Ich bin auf der Suche nach einem solchen Anbieter weil ich gerne meine eigene Musik auf Plattformen wie zum Beispiel Spotify bringen möchte, das aber ohne Label oder Aggregator nicht geht. Auch ein Artist Profil kann man ohne nicht anlegen.
Hast du da Tipps? Es geht mir erstmal weniger um den Profit per se sondern darum, meine Musik auf die relevanten Plattformen zu bekommen um zugänglich für Hörer zu sein (nachdem solche Plattformen wie Soundcloud ja inzwischen fast unbrauchbar werden). Und solltest du dazu was sagen können, gibt es evtl auch gleich einen guten Anbieter, der Beatport mit einbindet? So wirklich kostengünstige gibt es da nicht nach meiner Recherche
artist profile sollte auch so gehen. mit cd baby kommt man easy auf Spotify aber das wars dann auch ohne promo macht dein track nie plays

Du hast mal gesagt, dass du bei nem guten track helfen könntest, an vocals zu kommen. Ist das noch aktuell? Weil als kleiner Hobbyproduzent kommt man sehr schwer an Vocals :)

Most labels write a Demo Policy on their website.. read that and use the advice from this vlog ..do not waste labels time with music there is out of the style they release. Good luck :)

Jon i have a question , are you sure that i shall send labels unmastered version of my track ? It would be very helpful because i even paid 60 $ for mastering a track and the label paid me just 2 $ from it :D This is ridiculous i think
it's not your task to master your songs usually and pick a better label next time if they just make 2$ for you you can just release it yourself
