      That makes total sense. I told a friend who was impressed with my minis that it was 80% mental and 20% physical, at least to me. That friend couldn’t believe me. Maybe everyone’s experience is different, but painting is mostly a mental game to me. Having that long term conversation would certainly help me deepen my knowledge and understanding. Thank you again, Marco!

    • @Tianaris
      @Tianaris Před 2 lety +9

      He taught me so much about painting miniatures that I picked up a bunch of liquitex inks (love 'em!), almost the whole range of Scale75 colours (love 'em too!), some oil colours (still adapting) and started painting non-gaming related minis (busts & 75mm scale) to paint them just for fun and to try out new techniques. You know, challenge yourself to try something different to improve your regular painting. That sort of mentality.
      Now flat canvas... That stuff still frightens me! Even if I might one day give it a try, I'll always stay a miniature painter.
      And to Marco: thanks for being the inspiration you are! Keep up the good work!

    I love this vid because it uses familiar Marco processes way beyond the normal stopping point. As a learning vid, especially explaining the classical painting perspectives that are made great use of here it's huge.
    I wouldn't paint the model with this garish result, it's not for me, but it helps enormously to see it done.
    I just use more muted tones over a lot more of the volumes and stop sooner, then like the last vid the final model is a joy.
    This one is for the painters to think about, it's education.
    That said I've seen these minis a lot and they do lend themselves to wild painting, hard to imagine them painted realistically, they'd look silly

    One thing I would love for you to start telling us with each video, is the dry time between stages. I've followed some of these with guesstimates and have very much ruined previous steps due to inadequate dry time. I think. Especially with inks on inks and the airbrush. But yes, love the work.

    • @TheKylerStern
      @TheKylerStern Před 2 lety +1

      Most painters accelerate dry time. so unless going for like a high gloss finish you can generally speed up drying with a hair dryer or using his box method for oils. Aleays assume that the model is absolutely dry and ready for each step. the only times its not is when he specifically states that he is wetblending.

    Another amazing video. The combination of airbrush, oils and acrylics have so many applications and potential and I have learned so much already. How do I see if an oil paint has staining properties?

      I believe he's using acrylic ink so it shouldn't be affected by oil or spirits at all. My only experience with oils is using them as a wash, but I have used it over acrylic inks and paints and never had an issue with rubbing or removal :) (Except the one time I was going way too hard with a q-tip to wipe the oil layer haha)

    • @jonashenriksson2182
      @jonashenriksson2182 Před 2 lety +1

      @@Geordiecrafts yeah, chemically it shouldn't be a problem, but I had both Liquitex ink and kimera paints rub of when using a q-tip, and I haven't quite figured out what I'm doing wrong. My Kimeras get really watery if I leave them to long on the wet pallete- still great coverage, but I suspect the medium is thinned down to much so that the paint is not as strong after drying.

    A question about airbrush trigger control: I have always been taught to turn off the paint flow before the air flow lest I get a dry needle tip or ruin my artwork with a splatter of paint that has collected at the nozzle. Here’s what it looks like: 1. Press Down On Trigger (Air On), 2. Pull Back On Trigger (Paint On), 3. Push Forward On Trigger (Paint Off), 4. Release Trigger (Air Off).
    Correct me if I’m wrong, but in most of your videos it appears that you push down and back simultaneously in short bursts before quickly releasing the trigger altogether (i.e., you don’t manually reset the position of the trigger, you just let the springs do the work for you.)
    Have I been misinformed, or is the technique I’ve been taught not relevant to miniature painting? For reference, I own an Iwata HP-CS Eclipse airbrush. Thanks in advance for your time
