A few years ago during the holidays, Richard and I spent an afternoon with his friends Andrea & Travis. Travis brought out these oyster crackers that were tossed in oil, seasoned up and then baked. They were almost like a crouton but far more addicting and snack-able. I knew I had to make my own version and call it Oyster Cracker Munch.
This is the PERFECT thing to eat on its own, top on salads or soups or to mix with nuts, chocolate or whatever else for the ultimate bar snack. Even better - it's the perfect gift when placed in a tin or mason jar to give to others and it couldn't be cheaper or easier to make either using your Instant Pot air fryer lid or your oven.

You can also add peanuts and mini pretzels in. If you want you could even use Goldfish crackers
Have been making these and pretzels for 30 years. Great gifts.
First experienced these probably about 25-30 years ago or so at a family owned local bar/restaurant. The owner's wife brought them out during football season (think she said she first saw the recipe on the HVR Dip and Dressing mix envelopes), and ever since then for me personally this has been a sports watching snack enjoyed with your favorite chicken wings and BBQ foods, ice buckets full of your favorite "lawn mower beer", and good friends. And for me, not forgetting the lemon pepper is a must. It adds that "just one more handful, and then I'll stop...maybe" greatness that adds the contrasting tiny bit of "twang" to your taste buds that goes together really well with the other more subtle flavors of the baked in dill and the oil or butter flavors of the mix. That and the crunch just all go perfectly together in this great snack. Just add a few friends who haven't yet lost the bonding nature of sharing food, a few beers, and some good old-fashioned, good-natured game time trash talking for laughs that's all in good fun, and this snack is just about the best!
You can also do a no bake version or add some crushed red peppers if you want a little spice.
I made these yesterday and I have to say....It was sooo salty no one could eat it. I dumped them out and made another batch this morning with 1 pkt of Ranch Mix, and it was perfect. Good thing this is not an expensive recipe!
my dad made this in the late 60's early 70's in the oven
My Mom had made them for years, but didn't put the lemon seasoning in it. So good. We always did them in the oven as IP wasn't invented back then. I don't have a crisper lid, so would still have to do it in the oven. I also make a Buffalo Ranch Pretzels one by using about a 10 oz. to 16 oz. bag of Pretzels. 1/2 cup melted butter, about 5 tsp. Ranch dressing powder, 1/3 cup of Buffalo wing hot sauce. Put the pretzels in a zip lock bag (I use a gallon size bag) with the melted butter and hot sauce. Shake until all are coated. Place them on a cookie sheet with parchment paper, in the oven at 300F. I usually don't measure the Ranch powder, but sprinkle it over the mixture, just enough to give it some ranch flavor. Place in the oven and check every few minutes. Use a spatula and turn the pretzels, so them can dry. depending on your oven will be on how long you have them in. They also will continue to crisp even more after you take them out, so don't over do in the oven. Store in a air tight container and they will last up to two weeks. I can't say about doing them in the IP with the crisper on, as I don't have one.
Ty! I don’t have an air fryer lid either and was wondering how I could do these in my oven.
I like the option you give with the Instant Pot air fryer. I won’t have to heat up my oven.
l bought both of your books. l love them. They are so easy to follow. Thank you for writing then. Waiting for your next book. What a great wedding gift an INSTANT POT and your books! Can't beat it! Thank you!
Neat idea. I’ll add these to my menu for my annual New Years party. Thank you Jeff for sharing.
I would use butter instead of oil.
I just got my instant pot during the Amazon prime days and I found your you tube channel and I love it! Now I need to go order your cookbooks, thanks!!
I’ve been making these at Christmas for years! I take them to work and give them to my neighbors. So good!
Looks so yummy. Will give it a try. Thanks Jeffrey ❤️
I think a cookbook dedicated to the 3 quart instant pot would be fantastic. Croutons and soup topper would be yum!
I can’t wait to make these!!!!!
We’ve been making these for years and they are so addictive!
I just want to tell you that your cookbook (I got the blue one) is thee best I’ve ever seen. I just got it & haven’t made any of the recipes, BUT........the pictures, the instructions, all of it....TOP NOTCH! You should be super proud!
I'm from the south and everyone makes them around the holidays. I've always wanted to make these myself! now i will!
Making them as a snack for our Mah Jonng game next week. The girls will love them!
You could really add any combination of herbs and spices for this. Genius! I'm definitely making this for family gatherings. Thanks Geoffrey! 😋
My grandma makes these around holiday season and I love the ones that are broken in half.
Have made these for years. We add red pepper flakes for heat and call them firecrackers.
i bought both of your books today off amazon. thank you i hope my support helps you with all your life goals. keep up with all the great vids
I add cayenne pepper or crushed red pepper flakes for a little heat.
Snack mix out of oyster crackers would never have occurred to me in a million years, but wow, I gotta try these! Thanks!
This recipes that are the back of Nabisco oyster crackers for 40 years
@@sharongypsydove6080 They don't sell them where I live, so I've only ever had them in restaurants with soups.
@@WaterfaerysDomain Well I thought they sold oyster crackers not just Nabisco but store brands everywhere..
You have great ideas!
Such a simple yet amazingly looking snack munch! I will be making this along with some Rocky Point Chowder, and Dels Lemonade mix this week!
A very nice budget friendly snack.
When we had office parties, one of my coworkers made something similar, but I think you bumped the recipe up a notch. Yummy! 😋
I’ve been making these for years. Almost the exact same recipe too. I bring them into work and they disappear in a flash. I’ll try your twist on them next time. Thanks for sharing!
Many of us grannies and singles have an instant pot mini and could use a cookbook dedicated for mini use and tips. It is sometimes difficult to adapt 6 or 8 quart recipes to 3 quart. I love your helpful style of cookbooks but really could use one solely for the mini 3 quart model.
Just half the recipes.
Love the Instapot!
OMG I'm totally making these tomorrow!!! I'm gonna be on such a carb high!!!!🤯
Try fresh chopped dill for a major glow up.
Oh my! I used to make these all the time but it has been years now. I need to make them again, my recipe is a tab bit different than yours. SO delicious!
Hey I love oyster crackers since having gastro dilemma can’t have popcorn this recipe is So perfect for me and thank you for this wonderful recipe ,
I can’t make these at home... I can’t stay out of them, and eat them until gone!!!
I am going to do this and mix it with some wasabi peas and pretzels!
Im going to put them in chili
Very cool. I wonder if you can do the same thing with a bag of dry chickpeas.
You need to start with cooked (canned) chickpeas, rinsed and drained. But this is a great idea. I love roasted chickpeas!
Looks so yummy 1 questions could you use butta instead of oil? And would this be the same timing in an air fryer instead of instant pot ?
Really looks great and can’t wait to try it. Just curious, why do you not recommend olive oil for this recipe?
I wonder what these are like with your french onion soup
Mom made these 30+ years ago...tasty 4 sure
We call them crack crackers and they are so good.
I would mix one or two tablespoons of hot sauce in the oil before mixing it in. Add some heat!
Sold!
Hey Jeff, you're amazing! I love ALL your recipes! But how about eliminating the inflammatory vegetable and seed oils? They're not good for you!
My grandma makes these at Christmas. After 47 years of eating them ONLY at Christmas, I feel dirty adding these ingredients to my grocery list for this week.....😬. Sorry, G-ma!!!
Good dirty or bad dirty?
3:10 Unless you have the wal-mart exclusive 6 qt instant pot duo crisp hehe!
i’ve been making these for years
do the same thing with mini pretzels
The only Brand of Oyster Crackers I use is Westminster these are Amazing.
Wonder how this would turn out if you subbed the oil with butter
You'd have to be careful due to the water content in most butter.
Think these will keep in the freezer??
My 6 qt Duo Crisp + has the same controls as your 8, nothing on the lid
Yesterday my store had oyster crackers on sale for 3 bags for a 1.00, I didn't get any because they were out dated. I will go back today and see if they still have any left.
Once you bake them, it won’t matter if they’re expired. Did they have any crackers left?
@@abunchahooey yes, they did, and they then had them for 4 for a 1.00, so I got them.
Now that’s a bargain! 😊
I guess you could put it in a regular air-fryer too?
We have made these for years. We call them bad breath crackers.

Oven would be best
The website for the company that makes Instant Pot sells air fryer lids for regular 6-quart Instant Pots. Just search "Air Fryer Lid".
Why not use olive oil? I'm just wondering. I made some with half stick butter and olive oil and heated on the stove before mixing in ranch powder and parmesan cheese with some other seasonings! Came out pretty nice.
I like the option you give with the Instant Pot air fryer. I won’t have to heat up my oven.
What? No Boursin? 😂 This actually, looks really good. I can't wait to try it out!!
😂😂😂 I was waiting for Jeff to dump the Boursin in there, too!
