  • Well another year has past and its time for a four year review on my Honda Pioneer 1000-5. They updated the newer models and this will probably be my last review unless someone request one. I can honestly say I would purchase this exact machine all over again.

    I own a 2018 Deluxe 1000-5. I use it for food plots and work around my property in Upstate NY which is 50 acres. I had one recall for something with the heat shied to help with the heat behind your back and a recall with the gas pedal (needed a new set screw or something minor), I use the machine to truck deer out load up to 25 bags of lime per load (at 40lbs a bag) and it is a beast! I love it and had no issues since I bought it in 2018.

    I've had my 2020 p1000-5 for two years. 2000 miles of trouble free so far. Added the dual battery and recommend doing it if you add accessories. I don't mind the heat. The only time it gets noticable is midsummer. Spring and fall I enjoy not freezing driving it.

      @@pineylife yes, I like the heat more than I dislike it. Thank you for your posts on the pioneer. I used several of your suggestions when adding accessories to my bike. Like you I put a 54” light bar on mine, but I put mine above the windshield. I had to custom weld some brackets as I could not find any that would work. I considered putting below and using your bracket idea but opted for the upper. Back up lights as well as adding interior lights are a must. Cheers from Canada.

I am an old offshore powerboat guy and I can tell you having a "house" battery can save your butt when you have been cranking your stereo, running the fridge and vacuflush all day. I have 2020 Honda Pioneer 1000-5. I use it for hunting and easy trail riding. My wife and I live in East Tennessee and ride up at Windrock utv park pretty regularly. We just spent 3 days up there riding with our 3 granddaughters. It has plenty of room for that. And we have a great time with it! I have a little over 500 miles on it and so far no problems! I saw several Honda Pioneers this past week. One guy I spoke to at Windrock said he had 2 pioneers. And the one he was driving had almost 13,000 miles on it and had 30 inch tires on it. Which was the reason I was talking to him because I want to go up in size but not get crazy. I want 28 inch tires the same size all the way around. Also, we did stuck in a really bad mud hole but my winch worked well and got us out. My only real complaint is my 2 piece windshield. I would go with a one piece if I could do it over again. Other than that, I love my Honda Pioneer!!! It’s a keeper! I wouldn’t hesitate to buy another one. And I would love to meet Piney Life on the trail someday! God Bless!

    I’ve got a 2019 pioneer 1000. I use it on the fam every single day. It’s got right at 18,000 miles on it. I had a shift motor go out 3 months after buying it but that has been the only issue. 2 sets of tires and 2 sets of brakes is all that has been replaced. I’ve been very pleased with it. I had a Polaris ranger 900 before this and both the front end and the rear end are stripped out of it at 14,000 miles. I worked on that thing quite a bit several sets of wheel bearings and upper a arm bolts that would brake and almost kill me. But according to corporate polaris they had never seen that happen even though I told them my neighbors ranger was doing the same thing. We use our stuff every day all day long. My father-in-law has 2 Honda 4 wheelers with over 60,000 miles. Now they are slam wore out but will still get around 🤣.

I have had Hondas since the day my parents let me ride. atc 70, atc 110, atc 200x , atc 250sx, fourtrax 330 4x4 and now the Honda pioneer 1000-5. Over the years I out grew the sizes and eventually had different purposes for the Hondas as I got older but each Honda is still in the family or has been sold and probably still used today. Dad had a terex for years, did fine for hunting but was loud. I bought a 2019 700 deluxe 2/3 seater and the stock tires have been the only weak link for me. The terra bites will be their replacements, based on your reviews of them. Hard to find an honest review from anyone online anymore for my UTV use, they’re a tool with a little care will last forever. I can’t fathom buying a 20-30k machine then beating the brakes off it every weekend. A front winch and rear bumper are in the works and I’ll build some sort of rear rack/shelf to help organize gear. I highly recommend a small battery operated chainsaw mine is a Dewalt and it’s soooo nice to grab a couple batteries not worry about the extra noise. I wouldn’t cut firewood all day with it but for clearing a fallen limb or two it’s perfect.I went with the HME deer lift/winch that goes in 2” hitch it was the best $120 I’ve ever spent comes with the gambrel and is like cheating to clean/load deer. Do y’all know of anyone building racks for them that aren’t $1500+ ? I don’t need a crazy roof rack with a dozen lights just something simple to strap the cooler and gun boots to so deer will fit in the bed without covering everything with blood.

    • @pineylife
      @pineylife  Před rokem

      Thank you for the kind comment and I believe the terra bites is a perfect choose for you. Mainly because it sounds like we use our UTVS for the same purpose. Work and hunting. I will have to check into the electric saws. I carry a Milwaukee 18v hacksaw with me and a pruner blade but the real saw sounds much more efficient. The HME deer lift has got my attention also. Been looking at a similar lift, But I will be checking this one out for sure. I don't know of anyone that is building roof racks for side x sides right off hand. I do have a homemade rack that fits a jeep. I was gonna modify it for my pioneer but decided not too. If your local or near the Knoxville area it might be something you could get modified. I will keep a eye out for fabricators building roof racks. Thanks for watching and supporting my channel.

    I looked at these briefly since my primary use is hunting, but also have 2 small children and like to ride trails occasionally. (I moved on from the mud life years ago). Previously had a Defender 800 with 30" Carnivores, custom built (by me) full stereo/sub setup and it did everything I needed it to perfectly. It was just short on seating for me, wife and 2 kids. Hunting season '22 came upon us. Inventory was still hit and miss on all brands. Ended up purchasing a CF Moto UForce 1000XL camo. It serves my use well, but it is a little large in the woods being a 6-seater. And, while I saved at least $6k over a comparable Polaris/Can Am, there are fit and finish quality differences. I expected that. So far so good. Toured around my uncle-in-laws swampy hunting property north of Oak Grove, LA last weekend. Myself, my 2 yr old boy, him and my G-Pa in law in a completely stock Pioneer. I was really impressed with how easily it went everywhere. I fully expected us to get hung up at some point. Made me reconsider the Honda for next year.

      I too have give up the mud life. To much expense. lol.
      I have to say I haven't found anything yet that pioneer cant handle. I'm pretty rough on it during deer season retrieving deer in the hollers and coming up hills not counting some of our creeks. The extra seats and same wheel base as most two seaters really is handy on this machine. They are a great quality machine.
      I read up on your u force and they are a good looking machine and priced right. I had never heard of them till You mentioned them but the 2023 1000 looks great in that blue color.

    Great review. I have a Kubota RTV-500 used primarily for farm use and trail clearing. I am with you regarding belt drive units, not for me. It came down to choosing between the Honda Pioneer 500 or the Kubota when I was in the market, decided on the Kubota because it had a dump bed and the hydrostatic trans was probably a better choice for farm work. At the time there was not a Pioneer 520 with a dump bed. I needed a small unit for the equestrian trails that I maintain, bigger units simply don't fit. Looking ahead, I may buy a Pioneer 1000-5 to haul people (grand kids) around and trail riding. You hit it right on when you pointed out it is important to define the intended use.

    Great vid and I like your style sir! Right to the point. I'm also considering a Pioneer for mostly farm work and don't need a SxS for aggressive trail riding (have atv's and bikes for that). Can you give any experience you have using your rig to tow trailers for work scenarios? I'm planning on my SxS to fit, capability wise, under what my JD 5055e and 1/2 pickup can do. For the jobs on the farm/ranch that don't need anything heavier than a SxS. Thanks!

    • @pineylife
      @pineylife  Před rokem +1

      Thank you and glad you enjoyed the video. You wont be disappointed with the towing compacities of the pioneer. We have built several shooting houses that are all 2x4 stick built with 2x6 floors, insulated, windows, and of course a door and a deck. These buildings are not light and here in Tennessee we have a lot of hills and valleys we have to go thru to get to where we have to put them. The pioneer handles this without any issue. Another good scenario is when we do food plots I use the pioneer to pull the cultipacker which is all steel and 10 feet wide. reral heavy and it pulls like it like a dream. I have hauled round bales with it and many more heavy things. It honestly has the towing power of a half ton truck. They are boss on the farm or in the woods. Let me know if you need anymore info. Thanks for watching

    2022 Honda pioneer forester. Love all your videos. But the Honda doors in the back window through your suggestion. Love them. Do you have an issue with the passenger door not seating into that 2 inch hook to grab the door to keep it pulled in. Other than that great job

    • @pineylife
      @pineylife  Před rokem +1

      Congrats on your Honda. They are awesome machines. Yes I have had to adjust my doors on the front from adding the door tops. I also Have heard of people adjusting there rear doors as well. The rubber bumper screws in and out for your depth adjustment and then the metal piece on the frame is your catch. It can be adjusted by losing the two nuts and you can slide it up and down. I have had several question on this subject so I will do a video in this. Thanks you for your support of my channel.

      For what I do with mine. I don’t believe the fox shocks are needed. Now people that off road all the time in swampy and rocky conditions they swear by them. But I have not seen a need for them for hunting and working.

    • @pineylife
      @pineylife  Před rokem

      We use ours for everything from trail riding to working. Now to be totally honest the back seats are not real comfortable on long rides and if you don’t have the DEI heat shield kit under the seat it can get pretty hot in the cab. Now you can make the back seat more comfortable by adding a boat cushion or terrain seat from pur pro. Other than that it is a awesome machine I really don’t know what I would do with out it.
