  • No Letting Go - What would you do to save your child? A young teenager struggles with a debilitating mental illness as his mom risks everything to save him without losing the rest of her family.
    No Letting Go (2015)
    Director: Jonathan D. Bucari
    Writers: Jonathan D. Bucari(screenplay), Randi Silverman(screenplay)
Stars: Cheryl Allison, Richard Burgi, David Schallipp
    Genre: Drama
    Country: United States
    Language: English
Release Date: 26 September 2015 (USA)
Filming Location: Westchester County, New York, USA
    Storyline:
Based on the multi-award winning short film Illness (2013), No Letting Go (2015) follows the story of the Spencer family whose middle son, Timothy, struggles with anxiety, depression and mood disorder. As his symptoms become more and more debilitating, his parents are faced with painfully difficult choices that will change their lives forever.
    Reviews:
""No Letting Go" is obviously a labor of love. While the film is marvelously made, it just doesn't seem like the most commercial of productions. Instead, it's a film with a strong message and addresses a problem seldom talked about in movies...childhood mental illness.
When the film begins, Timothy is a 10 year-old who is starting to show some serious signs of anxiety--something you just wouldn't expect in a kid his age. His parents take him to therapy but it doesn't really seem to help. Then, the film jumps ahead to age 14. Now Timothy is not only anxious but seriously depressed...and with childhood depression comes a lot of other things, such as anger and unpredictability. The film not only focuses on Timothy but also on his family and how Timothy's precarious mental state effects them all in different ways. His parents' marriage is tense and difficult and his brothers obviously are affected as well. So is there any hope? Of course, as this a film about so much more than just a miserable family.
There is so much I love about this movie. The acting is very nice and most of the folks are faces you won't recognize...which is a plus because this makes them seem like a very real family. The direction by Jonathan Bucari is just amazing and the writing by Bucari and Randy Silverman shows that they know a lot about mental illness and its treatment. Considering I am a trained psychotherapist and have had to deal with mental illness in my own family, I can clearly see that they sure did their research. As a result, they offer a film with many great things to offer...hope for families...awareness of how widespread these problems are...the way it affects friends and neighbors...as well as the ways depression come out in children and teens. All in all, a great message film which not only does a great and beneficial service but is also highly engaging. It also has been taking many awards in the film festival circuit...and justified as the film has so much to offer and is so original. Fortunately, this film will be making its debut in March--so you can see it without the need of going to a film festival!"

My 38 yr old was diagnosed with schizophrenia at the age of 15. The first 7 years were rough. He was also diagnosed with PTSD and autism years later. Praise be to God and a miracle anti-psycotic medication that has kept him stable the last 15 years ❤

This is so real. We dont see their actions as symptoms of an illness, just as unacceptable behavior.

People actually do see their Actions as Symptoms of an Illness. The only way they know how to cope with it is to deal with it like what the Symptoms are ... *unacceptable behavior.*

Shows a true picture of how mental illness affects the whole family. So sad. My daughter-in-law always was different and when she suffered a miscarriage after ten years of marriage she went into full blown schizophrenia. She told my son she wanted a divorce. He was devastated. Mental illness makes you feel so helpless. It’s hard to get the person into treatment and to make them continue treatment. So heartbreaking.

This family has to go through so much, it’s sad, very sad …. I cried at the end, but not for the sadness… I cried for the beauty of this family sticking together, through it all. It helps to see this kind of love exists… the kind of love where people support one another, no matter what 💞🫶🏻💞
Unfortunately many of us lack that kind of love 💔

Discussing Mental condition is very hard subject. It can be very confused and sad for all family members. My son had his first hospital patient treatment when he was a freshman in San Diego University. It has taken ten year for my son to manager his mental condition, with right meditation he completed his undergraduate in seven years in 2019. Currently he has a part time job and working on a new career path. As his mother, I have joined DBSA Family and Friends Supporting Group for last six years. I'm so grateful to join DBSA San Diego, my son and I have learned so much about mental health.
