I loved exploring inside the empty old houses. It felt like I was walking right behind you, hoping nobody would jump out and scare the daylights out of us! You really have a knack for showing us places in a way that makes us feel like we’re really there.
I’ve never seen charcoal burners before, though I’ve heard of them. Thanks.
I’m so glad you opted out of hiking in the fire smoke. That stuff is incredibly toxic to breathe.

Really enjoyed the ghost towns. Back in the day, my boyfriend and I (both Albertans) explored the ghost towns of southern Alberta, Canada. It was really interesting. I'm not sure how many ghost towns are still there - and most people are unaware of them. We found a couple of rare little books about them. We were on our way to the badlands and grasslands of Alberta. If you're in Montana, I highly recommend coming north to visit Writing On Stone park and the Cyprus Hills in Alberta.

The school room sure brought back memories. The desks are the same kind we had when I was a boy from the first through eighth grade in Hailey, Idaho. When the Idaho Territory was first created, there were two cities named Bannack City. One in what is now Montana (visited in your video) and one in what is now Idaho. So, the one in Idaho, just north of Boise, changed its name to Idaho City. I really enjoyed this video and comments about your attraction to ghost towns. BTW, excellent vehicle choice.

Tristan, t.y. for sharing your Pioneer Mtn adventure. Love the whole video while a couple small things stood out to me: 1. the great music you play during your driving scenes .. lends to the country adventure. 🙂 and 2. learned how nice it must be to have a slip-on pair of shoes first thing in the morning, lol. The drone scenes are fantastic as well as the curvy mountain roads from your dash cam. Stay safe. My fears would be of wild animals and the human predator but you keep that in mind I'm sure. Love watching your outdoor adventures, the beautiful landscapes, and seeing your Land Cruiser in action. Looking forward to next adventure. 👍

I'm very glad you decided not to climb...the second you said "wildfires" that that wasn't going to happen and staying in Canyons is probably not good cuz that's where all the smoke congregates. We all want you to stay safe.

I belatedly found this video just today. I expect my wife and I were in the Pioneers this summer of 2022 just before you were. The smoke from the fires to the west in Idaho had not gotten cranked up yet. I can only guess how many times I've been to Bannack, the first having been July 1978 as a 22 year-old geology student. We went to Bannack Days for the 4th time in July of this year. Over the years since the first trip in '78 we've been all over the Byway, Coolidge, the Elkhorn mine, Elkhorn Hot Springs, Tower Mountain, and many other locations throughout the Pioneers and the surrounding Big Hole. You've discovered a terrific playground. Just be sure not to tell anybody about it!

What an incredible trip! As someone who is mobility challenged, I really appreciate seeing places I might actually be able to scooter through, such as the first ghost town. There’s so much I’ll never be able to do, so I focus on what I can, then live vicariously through your travels! Also appreciated your critique of the RAV4’s potential for making it to that last stop. So glad you have the Land Cruiser! I was nervous for you just watching you negotiate that mountain, but what a payoff! 😊

I always pull up your journeys on Google Earth .. like following to places I can't get to. I follow your hikes with great pleasure as I'm way old now to do what you do. My one son and you would get along great. LOL 🤠 Something for you to consider on the Cruiser .. all the stuff on your roof is costing you MPG. I took the roof rack off my Crosstrek and went from 27/29 mpg to 32/34 mpg. An empty roof rack was costing me that much in gas! Took the roof rack off my 2001 Ford Explorer and gained 2 mpg!

The charcoal kilns would make an interesting and unusual tiny home village.
