I just watched this episode. I love Mike Franks and this always hits fresh every time. Hearing Gibbs softly saying, “Ahhh, Mike,” just heart wrenching. Great series, one of the few truly solid TV shows with characters that come into your life, stay, make themselves at home and become a second family. They never get old, never age. They let Mike go out fighting and not laying in some bed dying of Lung Cancer. He said he was sick and it was inferred he had Lung Cancer. It fit Mike's character. And as much as Mike smoked, it would have been a surprise if he didn't get Lung Cancer! Mike was a Marine, so the casket made by Gibbs for him honored that. In flashbacks and episodes where Gibbs has seen ghosts, they have brought back Mike's character, so he really isn't gone from the show. His funeral at Arlington was also fitting to his character.

This episode was a soul reminder that everything has an end, thats the scariest reminder about this episode. This episode made me think of how the whole show can come to an end. I think we all know that it will eventually end, even though I don't want it to. It is inevitable, no matter what any of us thinks, but I hope the end doesn't come for a longtime. At least after 8+ seasons the show is still strong as an ox. Each episode is sill grippingly entertaining. That is whats so great about it.

This chokes me up every time I watch it. Makes me cherish all the more the time I have left with my dad. I love Mike’s character: patriotic, loyal to family & friends, has your back no matter what, rough around the edges, tough, and unafraid to take on the enemy. The suttlies on this show are excellent. Remember the scene where Gibbs was working on Mike's casket? The episiode Tony had the convorsation w Boss about sleeping with E.J. That was a few episodes prior for any known reason for Gibbs to be working on a casket. The letter he read about Mike's cancer clearly came to him before Mike was called in to bend Vance on the Port to Port. Seems Gibbs knew he was dying;just didn't expect him to be murdered. Love to get ya'lls thoughts on this opinion.Thanx.

I like it that they bring him back a lot in “flashbacks”. In this way we still get to hear his experience and wisdom.
