  • This little warming bag is now my new favorite travel gadget! I can use it to bring on healthy meals and snacks for my flight and then use it to cook breakfast, lunch and dinner to help me eat healthy and stay on budget while traveling as well as take it to the beach and picnics to keep things warm or cool. You can use the bag to heat with any leftover boxes as well as metal, glass, plastic and silicone vessels. As most of you who follow me know, EVERYTHING I take on a trip has to be essential and/or multifunctional and this bag definitely fits!
I pair this heating / warming bag with my collapsible silicone bowls with leak proof lids. These can be used in the microwave, heating bag and oven. Again, very versatile!

I use a mini rice cooker and mini dash machines. I m Asian so I need my rice lol. I use a similar heater for when I have to drive to different locations for work . I was getting tired of eating out and spending too much money and putting on weight so the little thing works well. U just it into the cigarette plug and drive a few hours and when I stop for lunch I have a great home made lunch.

There's also recipes for cakes. I love it. I don't go anywhere without it. I also have an a collapsible electric kettle that I use. I love the idea of this little cooker. I travel alone a couple times a year (no husband) and this December I’ll be going to London. Last time I went international I went to the store and bought fruits, cheeses and like sliced meets, my room had a fridge. Those eggs came out beautiful! I'm thinking that you could theoretically put the oatmeal in the hot logic with the just fruit and water combined and cook it for 1 ½ hours and would probably cook better than just pouring the water on top like instant oats. That chicken and vegetable meal looks amazing. I like the demo of it. Makes it seem very do-able. I had a hot logic when I was working. I would freeze up soup (ie split pea soup) flat in sandwich bags and put that in hot logic along with some diced potatoes. Can;t remember if I cooked them in instant pot first but if you dice them small enough they should cook fine stirred into the soup. I've also done overnight oatmeal, cinnamon & fruit. Sometimes I would use fresh. I've also done dehydrated apples. They cook up nicely in the hot logic too.

If you can have hot water, you can make tons of stuff.
Not that it requires a whole lot of hot water, but you said that oatmeal would be good for dessert... Have you ever tried making mug cakes, much less doing it in your sea to summit cup? All you need is a regular cake mix and an angel food cake mix, stir them together. If you want just yellow cake that's what you've got, or you can throw in some chocolate chips or those blueberry bars, etc. But it's just three tablespoons of the cake mix, 2 tbsp of water, and one minute in the microwave. From the angel food cake mix it's already sweet. I've added baking cocoa to it, lemon juice, and I've even used vanilla yogurt as frosting. And since it's just a powdered mix, it would be easy to travel with.

    • @MaggieValera
      @MaggieValera Před rokem +4

      And because I talk too much here's a 2nd comment. 😂.
I don't travel anywhere without my thermos, even in summer. I drink hot black tea all year round. My mess kit & Sawyer 2-cup or a stainless steel camp comes with me, and either an alcohol stove or my Lixada butane stove (think off-brand MSR Pocket Rocket). Although when I went to Cuba I only took an immersion heater...and my thermos.
It always depends on where I am going, and how much money I'm working with, and how I'm getting there.
I like packing tortillas, canned chicken or ham, a bag of cheese, or those Knorr Sides etc and roll of aluminum foil. Hotel irons make great quesadillas!
I had picked up a microwave rice cooker, and figured I could double as a bowl, but I gave it to someone who needed it before I had a chance to try it out.
When Girl Scout troops are traveling, if they're staying in a hotel, many times the leaders will bring a crock pot, set it up in the morning, so that they have hot food to come back to you when they are done with whatever they're doing all day. It saves the troop a whole lot of money rather than eating out constantly.

I'm wondering, though, about could be in silicone that could leach into our foods. BPA or anything else? I'm very careful about that so I no longer cook in aluminum foil, aluminum cookware, teflon coatings, and plastic.
Right now I only use a 6 cup Pyrex glass rectangular dish in my HLM. If something might stick in there (like an egg casserole), I line the dish with parchment paper. I have several of those Pyrex dishes so I sometimes do food prep or batch cooking and measure out portions to put in them. One example is cooking the 6# package of ground beef from Costco at one time, and then measuring out portions for hubby and me to put in the freezer in those dishes. I can reheat from frozen in the HLM. About midway through that process, we add other ingredients appropriate for what we will be eating. We make a beanless chili by adding Rotel with chilis Rao's sauce, chopped onions and lots of seasonings. Another dish is to add chopped onions 30 minutes and cheese on top before serving and create burger bowls by adding our favorite condiments when the meat is hot. There are so many possibilities with using ground beef!!
Soon I am going to try egg custard or egg bites like Starbucks has, because you can cook in a water bath in the HLM!!!

I prepare the ingredients for a soup or stew the night before setting off (but don't cook), bring both pots to a rolling boil for 10 minutes in the morning, then put the two pots inside the shuttle chef and stick in the trunk of the car. After a day of driving, instead of having to go out to a restaurant or choke down an MRE, I just open the trunk and after we've unpacked the car, I ladle out a hot satisfying dinner. I have a question. Some cities have an ordinance for no cooking in a hotel room. Do you have any thoughts on this? I suppose it's to seperate vacation vs residential.
So most hotels have a microwave and mini fridge. Is having any of the devices you showcase going against any "rules"? Where do they draw the line?

I believe that best practices are to check with your hotel about cooking prior to booking… no I did not intend to rhyme😊 as you know, there are efficiencies and some accommodations that have kitchens in them, and if I can book that I will try to do that, but sometimes I am in an Airbnb or hotel room that I’m not able to have a full kitchen, however I will check with the hotel or the Airbnb host if it’s OK for me to do cooking in my room and explain what type of cooking I’d like to do. And if they are not going to approve me for cooking in my room, I probably will stay somewhere else. 😊💕

Before retirement I carried one to work with me. Thank you for helping me see it through new eyes. I was afraid I no longer had a use for it but that is so not the case.

I never had wanted to last year and I used it to test out for car camping and it was one that plugged into the car. But now I really like this one that plugs into an outlet and I’m planning on finding more uses for it.😊🙏❤️
