What are the arguments pro and anti gun? I want to see how society benefits from having them or not.
A) Most importantly, there's no substantive reason for getting rid of them. Canada doesn't have an issue with semi auto long guns. You don't need more reasons beyond this, but I'll offer a few.
B) Culture: There is a huge sporting and hunting culture in Canada that will be directly impacted by banning them. Why ban something as significant as 'hockey' for no reason? There are literally more licensed firearm owners in Canada than hockey players.
C) Economics: This community generates billions of dollars every year for the Canadian economy. Culling it will result in far less spending by the community, causing many shops to close and people to lose their jobs, meaning more people on government assistance coupled with a big blow to tax revenue. And the resulting tax payer contributions needed for the government to buy back all these guns will be well into the billions.
D) Dangerous non-compliance: Due to the huge number of unregistered guns they are banning, and the baselessness and pure disregard for the community doing so affects, there will be mass non-compliance. This will in turn create many paper criminals out of otherwise upstanding citizens and will lead to numerous unfortunate situations that will wreck lives; again, all over something that does nothing good apart look good in a headline for those who are ignorant of recreational use of firearms and how safe they are in Canada among Canada's most vetted and scrutinized citizens.
Look at America look at Europe and look at South America make your own decision on where you want the culture people and government to go.

Fine for unregistered guns, but many are registered. If you "lose them in a lake" you'll be charged with a number of offences since there's no legal way of using them on a lake or transporting them there.

I can't walk into the apple store, see an iPhone with a price of $1,300, toss $100 on the counter because that's what I feel like paying and then walk out of the store with the phone. They sort of do, but at the same time they don't. It's because they talked about it during last election in 2021, that could very well cost them the majority.
Previous Conservative leader O'Toole did try to be center about his policies to attract more Liberal and NDP voters. However, thr Liberals call him out on trying to unbann the "assualt rifles" from 2020 OIC and make it a wedge issue so he had to clarify his stance.
But the clarification comments anger various Firearm associations hence making him look like he is wishy washy on their firearm reclassification platform.
Bottom line story here, let the party do their job, firearm owners sto panicking and keep raising awareness, and once we have a Conservative majority, then we can undo the damage.

Im a canadian, and I’ve been dealing with this shit one ban after the next, i literally just got my firearms license a month ago (which i had to pay over 300$ usd for) and now hearing this im actually done im just a regular ass Person who enjoys target shooting and going to the range like a normal gun owner and now they will continue to punish us law abiding citizens for no reason. Ive had a bunch of firearms I’ve wanted to buy to start my own collection one day and now those dreams will just stay dreams. This is actual bullshit, like this will do anything, criminals won’t get guns legally anyways so why keep punishing us. I haven’t even bought my first gun yet and i already have to deal with this. Such a disgrace my country is a shame.

@@clagawag 270 for the course (restricted and non restricted) 80 for the license after you pass, 25$ for photo you had to ship in and 25$ for shipping (i payed for express) also 300 usd is 406 cad so with everything im not wrong came to about 400 cad
I’m in the same boat as you. I passed my test for non-restricted firearms back in June. Got into a little snag and I still haven’t finished the license application yet but I’m good to go. Shits tyrannic.. I’ve always wanted an M1 Carbine or something similar. Dreams will be dreams.

Even then in Australia we can own semi-autos rim-fires and shotguns if your a collector and can own handguns if your a club member. Farmers and pest controllers can also own AR-15's and so on So Canada is now even worse then Australia and NZ in Firearm laws.

@@flatlander0151 I currently hold A/B/H, a collectors license is very similar process to getting a Cat H. As for farmers getting semi-auto center-fires yeah it is a process its not completely easy but it can be done and is an option which is more a point I was trying to get across.

I can own a “traditional” style pump rifle, yet I can’t own a wedgetail, warrick or scsa because it looks scary 🙄 And no folding stocks. Over the border in QLD it’s a different country! Ah well, we make do with what we have available I spose.

The one thing he keeps repeating, our PM, is that they are not targeting law abiding gun owners, and yet, right from the beginning, he started banning weapons that law abiding citizens had the right to own. I am not a gun owner, but am in the Armed Forces and I have training with a lot of these. People need education on firearms, but our government is encouraging fear amongst the less educated about these rifles.

I’m almost 22. Got my licence at 18. Did the firearm safety course at like 12-13. I own 2 guns, saving for a 3rd. As a young Canadian who loves to shoot both for sport at a range and to hunt, I am very mad at my government. I didn’t get to vote in 2016 against our national king of stupidity, spending and taxation. There are so many promises he’s made that he has broken, not ignored, broken, that there was an entire website dedicated to tracking them.

Also they are adding the 1500 rifles in the OIC + the 5000 that the RCMP added to the OIC during there interpretation of the OIC to bill C-21 so the buy back does not have to happen as they are now prohibited by Parliament not the OIC. Also that all air-soft markers will also be prohibited as replica’s they are removing the exception for air-soft in the firearms act . In 3 years firearm’s ownership is over in Canada next will be a sport shooting act like in Great Britain and hunting will be gone and the the rest of the firearms !

Here in Oregon they just banned mag sizes over 10 rounds and you have to get a license to even purchase a regular rifle or pistol.
You're right comparing it to Australia a bit. While I can't have something like an FAL cause it's self loading, I can still get something like a SCSA Taipan light pump action. 223 with 50round magazines in WA. In NSW, QLD etc there are magazine restrictions, but not everywhere. Very sad to see.

Because once the emergencies act was enacted, in theory they could secretly skip the legal system and initiate spying on all people in Canada because that is a power that act gives them.
