- If humans want to expand into space, it will take us incredible amounts of energy. How do we do that? Easy: we will just use the sun’s energy by realizing the most ambitious construction project in history. This is how it works.

Even better if we could have them around the sun itself! Played it through already! Was big fun and still is. But my Dyson Swarm was a bit short-lived and the solar sails vanished after approx. 30 Minutes. So I used them to create a sphere.
Thank god, I have the resources of not only a planet but a whole galaxy to exploit.
But the Dark Fog seems pretty interested in my doing as well... Nasty little buggers.
Amen brother, keeping the swarm off my resource outposts gets annoying. I am currently constructing a HUGE Dyson sphere around a type O star (blue super giant) I got the frame in place but making and launching the millions and millions of mirrors are going to take forever.
I wonder, would it be possible to use such mirrors to focus more sunlight on, say, Mars to heat it up and thus helping to terraform it? Kinda like a huge magnifying glass.
I mean, we'd only need to set up some sort of protection against radiation and solar storms, somehow create an atmosphere and get enough water on Mars to make it habitable...
ooh ooh! laser mars until it has a molten core to make a magnetic field, (i think that’s why it doesn’t idk i’m not doing research rn) and then radiation isn’t an issue :D

@@MarcosVinicius-hs6cs my man
As one man once noted, the problem to building a Dyson Sphere is two-fold:
1. If it doesn't spin, the slightest nudge will imbalance it and it will collapse.
2. Spinning it stops the problem of imbalance. However, centrifugal force for something the size of the sun will apart.
But the whole video focused on a Dyson Swarm, not a Dyson Sphere. If its a swarm, then it doesnt need to spin, it would simply need to orbit which we know how to do. So you couldn't "nudge" a Dyson Swarm because its not a single object.
it's main focus was on dyson swarms not an entire structure. he already explained what would happen if it was a dyson sphere stucture.
6:45 great detail that mercury got partially destroyed rip
How to build a Dyson swarm.
First, you're gonna need a planet you don't want...
Or a whole bunch of asteroids.
We just want earth, and probably mars

What technological limitations can you think of that prevents us from creating some type of partial Dyson swarm from mining with robots mercury and launching satellites/collectors to beam down energy and accelerate the process?
@@sw1tch327 The abysmal efficiency, recyclability, and maintenance of solar panels and the difficulties we would also have with capacity when it comes to storing that power.
On the one side. We might not need huge capacity if we can solve the problems with Solar energy. Solar Panels lose efficiency as they heat up and their efficiency is rather shit to begin with. But if we could develop solar technology that would allow us to control how much energy we take-in, whenever we need it. Then we wouldn't need to have an incredibly advanced energy infrastructure.
That said. Without that advancement. We need a good way to direct as much solar energy into the energy grid for storage for when it's needed. Batteries are essentially already at their best efficiency that we can actually get them. There's pretty much a chemical limit. So we can't just make a super-grid of batteries. They're expensive, volatile, inefficient for our purpose etc.
Super capacitors have the problem of having even less efficiency than batteries but they can output charge much faster. Not really fit for purpose.
Perhaps we'd find ways to use any excess energy that we harvest when it's not needed and pump it into a mechanical system that would allow us to convert later on.
I'm spitballing here but yeah. There's a boatload of issues with just receiving the energy. Let alone setting up the infrastructure that builds the thing.
@@Unethical.Dodgson Well if you watched the video it covered that when it said to use mirrors. With that much power we can use kugleblitz batteries (maybe). And we can just not store whatever energy we don't need and use what we can and then we have a very high demand for energy storage
Honestly, most people would rather focus on space travel than current problems because it's easier and more interesting. There's a reason there are hundreds of sci-fi shows but none about feeding the homeless.
@@sw1tch327 sorry to necro here, but my concert is he said mirrors to direct to a place. If that place is on earth then we are going to fry the earth before the end. Even if we dont, if the mirrors have a glitch that much energy focused in one place could demolish any city (magnifying glass and ant). So we focus on an object in orbit, how do we get that energy here? We don't have a way to efficiently transmit energy across space. Right now the only way they can think of is lasers, and again with that much energy a bad actor could demolish a city. There is also a massive amount of energy lost to the atmosphere and then again with solar. The mirrors have to be able to direct in unison to a point. How are we going to do that? Not to mention it has to get into orbit, but the mirrors will act as solar sails. If we use the force of those to keep it in orbit then we run into the issue of sun spots. Then how do we rotate the mirrors to remain focused on earth? Can't be gas we would run out on the mirrors before long. Maybe some gyroscope, but we would have to have billions of satellites working in unison

Why we don’t put solar panels on mercury instead of destroying mercury to build dyson sphere
@@secretunknown2782 Because solar panels are very short-lived compared to the timespan it will take us to harnes all the energy needed for interstellar space travel. Solar panels are not as efficient as we think :) They're still heaps better than fossil fuels at not destroying our planet, but it's still not good enough for very, very big energy generation. (Sr, my english so bad)
Thanks a lot,I was gonna build one.this will surely help
I’m impressed with the style of the video making it look like a real game
At the start: "But building it won't be easy"
At the end: "This is not just possible, but easy"
Me: *"So, which is it? Easy or not easy?"*
Kurzgesagt : *"I'm On Both Side So That I Will Always On Top"*
Yes
Starts off hard, gets easier with time once you build up space infrastructure and technology developes.
Both, at the start hard, by the end easy 😄
easy'nt
Kurzgesagt: This is how to build a Dyson Sphere
Scientists: Alright we're ready.
Kurzgesagt: You need to dissasemble an entire planet.
Scientists: *u wot*
You got it backwards.
Kurzgesagt: How do we build a Dyson sphere?
Scientists: You need to disassemble an entire planet.
Kurzgesagt: Cool!
Or you could just say reverse uno to make it a meme

**slowly enchants everything with efficiency 32k**
The uae: *note that down! Note that down!*
Thanks. I will try to build one tomorrow
Love how you guys used the nebulan b, frigate as a lil spaceship
Mercury : Am i a joke to you?
People : Yup!
Of course not
@SatanicBeige [SB] lol
Your sacrifice will be remembered and your legend will be told for eons. Nao die.
Humanity: Nope, a serious stepping stone.
Mercury: *Exists.*
Earth: “Hippity hoppity, you’re now my property.”
Haha nice!
Oh, HELL NO!
I love this phrase 😂😂
There’s no one else to claim it so ... I guess it’s ours
MALEK001 001

This was the first ever video I've seen from this channel and I love it, I also want to help humanity expand to the stars, since my people come from the stars I want to help humanity get to the stars
Huh, LOL
We need to start working on this project NOW!!!
Mercury: exists
Elon Musk: *It's free real estate*
"Sun ultimate energy "
Elon Musk: i want all this stuff
*"Free"*
♥️♥️♥️

“Our attention is too often focused on short-term political gains and conflicts that will not matter in the long run” this one hits hard, when we know how much there’s to explore but instead of improving we just keep fighting ourselves
I want to cry 🗿 why just why there is so much to discover but no
Blame the power hungry and greedy. They desire nothing but their own advancement at the expense of other people and progress.
Ah, but you see, that competition is EXACTLY what will bring about ALL of the necessary technology to do this.
A competition, if not a space war of shattering mirrors, would be behind this. Ultimately, each nation would have portions of the Dyson Swarm and try to dominate the others' mirrors.
This is superior to a One World Government, for two reasons.
1. A true NWO, where all the earth is under one body, would be totalitarian and its politicians would be permanently unaccountable simply because of the sheer size of the earth and its population. It is not possible, and never will be possible, to subjugate eight billion souls (let alone trillions) under one global polity without enslaving them. This is doubly so if man wanted to use a Dyson Swarm as one unit instead of a divided access among squabbling nations.
2. For the world to end, the earth will either unite and THE Antichrist will take charge eventually, or THE Antichrist will do the uniting.
Once the earth is united, man's temporal existence will be ticking down to the end of all things.
@@spectralassassin6030
You think the unification lfthe earth under one polity would be better? No, of course not.
A civilization of that side would have no choice but to be totalitarian.
@@TurtleShroom3 Many governments we have in the world today could actually work if not for a few people being pieces of shit that stomp on those they believe beneath them. That's what I'm saying.
Thanks for the tutorial. Now i can do it myself
Yet again another helpful tutorial by kurzgezagt very cool 👍
Finally, the instructions I need to get building!
Why earth still dont have a rail gun space launcher?
And is anyone have a name for this?
electromagnetic rail gun space launcher is too long for write
@@benlin7426 I'm all over 😎
satellite slide
@@sahinyasar9119 probably because our atmosphere is too thick and the speed required to launch things would burn them up I guess
@@sahinyasar9119 1. earth gravity is stronger than mercury
2. The atmosphere is also thicker
3. Launching stuff to space with such a scheme would take a crazy high starting velocity since the acceleration is lost the moment the ship left the gun.
4. it would take a really long rail gun or large amount of energy to achieve such starting velocity, not to mention how the ship will survive such velocity
Thanks man I was really struggling on how you build a Dyson sphere
step #14,540,202 was a really tough one
Tamarak maybe a polar orbit?
Bro be out here lecturing type 2 civilisations
Mars: You wanted power... what did it cost?
Earth: **on the verge of tears of pain and duty** Mercury...
@黃詩峰expensive and takes too long
@黃詩峰 Its more efficient to EAT Mercury so we can make the swarm
Yeah but if we had infinite power it’s pretty reasonable we could just boom snap and Mercury would back in orbit
@@greglynas52 if we could synthesis energy/plasma into matter, then yes.
