  • What happens when you need a complicated arched opening or trim around a door that isn't available in the out of the box library? Well there are a lot of solutions (Morphs, Objects and/or GDL scripting, Shells...) but my favorite solution is using Beams and Columns. I know, surprising right? Well Beams and Columns are easy to use, easy to edit, and super versatile.
    This video was made using the Shoegnome Open Template v25.0 and the Shoegnome Work Environment for Archicad 25. Links below:

    As always the template and work environment are free; a good Archicad template (and work environment) is too important to horde. If you want to click the PayPal button on the template or work environment pages to support my endeavors and encourage future development, that's wonderful. Whenever people do that, it makes my day.

    Nicely done Jared! I like how you laid out the sequential steps of the process side by side, and demonstrated each one.

    Very nice. I have NEVER used the Segment option for beams and columns, so this was enlightening.

      Segmented beams and columns are amazing. Some of my recent videos have more examples. Definitely worth using!

    Thank you. But there's an underrated software called Chief Architect. It makes a piece of cake out of this.

    Great video Jared! How would you incorporate these elements into a schedule such as a door or a window schedule?

    • @Shoegnome
      @Shoegnome  Před 2 lety

      I'd use the door elements (arched opening) or door for the schedule and add linework in the elevation if you're showing that or just use Archicad properties for the additional information like trim type or description of the sloped entry.
      Another way would be to schedule the door object along with the beams/columns and then group them all in a schedule using a uniform ID or Archicad property for a headline like I show in this video when I group windows/doors by Ganged & Not Ganged: czcams.com/video/qqwh3HVtNXU/video.html That system has a lot of details to work out and might not be automated enough to be viable as of Archicad 25, but that's the ideal direction given Archicad's current 2021 limitations.

      I recommend reaching out to graphisoft tech support and seeing if there's a bug. If you can reproduce the crash regularly they'll hopefully be able to help.

    My columns won’t show inside the opening in 3d

      Sorry, just seeing this. CZcams didn't alert me of comments. It's probably a Building Material priority issue and/or a Layer Intersection group issue. The best way to solve this is to make sure the columns are on a different layer than the wall and the layer intersection group numbers of the layers are different.
