Thank you for this video. I’m one of those negative, complaining people. I started to realize it and have been working to improve. My mom always said there is good in everyone so try to see it. My dad always said don’t judge another until you walk a mile in their shoes. I got negative along the way and forgot what they taught me. It looks like Meeden and Baohong are the same company and I love the Baohong paper. Meeden’s “academy” level is the same product as Baohong’s “academy” grade. Amazon sells it for the same price as the website but no 10% off, but I do get free shipping. Just FYI for everyone. :)

I noticed that Meeden brought out their paper at around the same time that Baohong stopped selling their academy range. I loved the Baohong Academy paper, so I'm glad we can still get it under the Meeden name.

I have been using Meeden and Baohong paper for a long time. It is my favorite! Have not found a paper I like any better. I have been hesitant to order the hot pressed, but now I think I will. I’m excited now to get hot pressed. Thanks for the info, it sounds perfect.
Pete, I had a friend that constantly complained about EVERYTHING, drove me crazy. After over twenty years of trying to be a friend, I had to just to just walk away. Sad to me that people are never happy. Pete, I’m happy 99 percent of the time. The older I get, the happier I get….(emotional happiness, body…oh no). LOL

I am astonished that you are "just testing paper" and at the same time producing art of such quality. I loved the first one (I named it "Alien Hatchling at Feeding Time"...yes, another sci-fi inspired title.) and then you created the second one. Totally different feel to it. More subtle, did not bring to mind an immediate "title"...forgive me, I'm a writer, I think in these terms. LOL Now I'm going to stop typing and just wallow in the rest of the video. I like swatching. And the product demos it's good. I like the cometary.. find it interesting . Art and brain questioning rambling . I watch in the morning and some of the dialogue comes up in my brain to talk to myself about..
My first husband is the complaining person. I think he complains always. He sat with me while I was in labour the first time and rambled about being bored and that he had a headache. Good grief second kid he stayed away didn't want to put him out.

I have seen the Meeden paint pans and I've always been interested in trying them out . But I haven't thought of using the paper. I will certainly look into them.

sounds great, pete. i'll try some next paper purchase (always looking to try new things). i hear you on washi 🙄 i use the blue tape but i rarely have any problem with it unless it is with the cold press fluid100 cotton. i hope i am not that person LOL i try not to be. i am picky about food though 🤔 i think people are like that because they are not happy with themselves, but they can not admit that so everything else must be the problem. i'm happy to just watch you paint and tell us your thoughts while you paint... maybe because that's what i like to do. i find it very therapeutic. i also like product comparisons because then i know what new thing i might want to try... or not. do it, those art supplies you want to use but don't... for reasons 😆 i have a few of those, too.
Thank you! Fluid 100 does tear with tape and masking fluid but I still enjoy using it. The hot press from them is the one that holds onto the paint and doesn't lift as easily but I use that when I need to glaze. I hear you about people. People can be strange.

Each paper has its own quirks and it’s great to do tests and take notes. Great to hear this paper is so great! You can train your neural pathways many ways people who complain to much have programmed their brain to complain and look for the negative. Also In. extreme cases it’s likely narcissism. If you are too pessimistic you have to intentionally retrain for positivity/optimism and it can be hard work to be more positive but it is worth it. However ONLY the person themselves can decide and put in the work to change for the better.

re choosing the paper with the colourful front vs the Baohong academy paper (they are both great, but I feel like the Baohong is off-white while the Meeden is more brilliant white in my experience, but I use them interchangeably and it' just down to preference) : I have often thought of reaching out to the Meeden team to simply tell them just how perfect their packaging design is and what a fantastic job the designer or team who is creating all their colourful branding is doing. it's some of my favourite branding of any art material out there. I just love how joyful it is!
ha. I just did - I sent them an email to say well done. hopefully it makes someone's day to receive a customer compliment rather than a customer complaint :)
I'm sure they like to get those types of emails over the complaining ones. It's always nice to hear what someone thinks you are doing a good job. 👍🏻🙂

thanks for the review on hotpress, I will definitly try it, I hope they have a larger size (Paul Ruben, for example has hotpress paper, but only in smaller sizes, )

I just checked, and it appears they do not have 15 x 10 in hotpress, the largest hotpress is 9 x 12. very disappointing.

I don't think there's much of a difference between an illustrator and an artist. All illustrators are artists but all artists illustrate an idea. I think commercial illustration is a profession some artists have but I don't like to put people in that small of a box to say some work is an illustration and other work is art. 🤔
I would really like to see how your test of colored pencil on their hot press works. For my professional pieces I use colored pencil on fabriano artistico 300 gsm hot press. I'm working on testing a piece on The archers 300 gsm hot press, but so far Fabriano is still winning. Also, I would love to see their huge studio easel if they would send that to you lol.
I've been using their hot press for pencil & watercolour mixed media artwork a lot recently and it has more of a texture than other hot press papers - it's almost in between other brands' hot press and cold press (it's "hot & cold" press, haha). I actually loooove it for pencil because I enjoy some of the texture showing, particularly when layering different colours.
That is something I need to try. I'll do a video of that soon. 👍🏻 I would also like to try out the easel. 😂

Your sandwich-story reminds me of a "saying" a friend and I had for those kind of people, "small dogs with big demands" which is based on a TV-ad for little dishes of dog food. Whenever we met/saw someone like that we refered to them as small dog 🤣 In my late mother's case it was her desire to come over as a sophisticated person with exquisite tast. She was just one of the small dogs, though 🤔

Did they give you talking points to mention? Was part of the deal that you had to hit their talking points? Their rough press looks more like a typical cold press. I do like to see these companies giving free product to youtubers. Let's me know what product to NOT buy. If they can afford to give it away they don't need my money. Plus, if it were great they wouldn't have to give it away & hopefully make sales trig the mere exposure effect. Meeden & Paul Reubens are bad at that.
No. I don't do talking points. It wasn't a sponsored video, they just asked me what I wanted to try out. Everything I said is what I truly think. Everyone needs to advertise. You can make the best stuff in the world but if no one knows it then you're still broke. Giving a product to a CZcamsr is the cheapest advertising there is. More companies should do it. It's a lot cheaper than a $30k commercial that's for sure. If I was a manufacturer I would do it. To each their own.
But you are getting paid. They paid you the cost of the product. I hate when youtubers pretend they weren't paid. You were. You were paid the cost of the product and the hope there will be more product in exchange for positive reviews. Ppl whom give bad reviews do not continue to get product from companies anymore. Plus you are making the adsens CZcams revenue from the video created with non purchased product. So yeah, youtubers are paid for their product reviews. Plain and simple.
I see your confusion and I used to think that was true also, but it's not entirely true. I was not paid for this video because I was not required to make the video in exchange for the product. I have received products from companies before that I did not make videos for because I felt the products did not fit my audience and it was not worth my time to use it. I also have no problem giving bad reviews. Strictly from a business perspective, and most CZcamsrs should know this, it is better financially to give honest reviews than it does positive reviews. Your audience is the reason you can make money on CZcams. Without them, you are not worth anything to advertisers. If you constantly give everything positive reviews when they don't deserve it then your audience stops trusting you and they go away. That's a much bigger loss than missing out on a new set of pens. So it actually pays to be honest with your reviews. Just look at my last video on the markers. I pointed out all the things I thought were bad about them. The company might not like that and they may never send me another product but that isn't the focus so it doesn't matter. Lastly, CZcamsrs are paid to make content. There are plenty of CZcams channels that do not do product reviews that still get AdSense. Most of my videos are not product reviews. I just do them when I think it will be helpful information for my audience. I also have patrons and they do pay me to create content. So, when people say they aren't paid to do a review it means they have not accepted physical money, there is no obligation to make the video, and they have no agreement with any company to say or do certain things for the products they received. 👍🏻
