Thanks for the side-by-side comparison! I've been using a 6.5" cut away with side bites on my 9' performance boards for the past 30 years and still stand by them, in all kinds of surf, from beach breaks to slabs. I also use a 7.5 Cut Away (for those small speed down the line type waves) and or a Cheyne Horan "Star Fin" on my 10' Yancy Spencer (epoxy) Surf Machine, love this fin, gives amazing lift and drive when surfing Waikiki / Malibu type waves. for nose riding I use my 10" rainbow (Model?) fin on my 9'6" works well, makes my board go slower, I feel.

I have to cut away fin that were popular even in the late 80s for windsurfing you might’ve seen those. Maybe they were used for windsurfers Maui and also may be over there by Diamondhead so I still have one fin that was made by. Simmer fins. He was a German windsurfer . So it’s very stiff fiberglass there’s no flex to it because it was not made for long boarding but for windsurfing boards. I have yet to try it on my longboard or but when I used to windsurf that board can turn on a dime very loose, considering the design, which is really taken from sea life or mammals, such as sharks dolphins all that. Mahalo 🤙🏼
