  • The scaphoid is one of the small group of bones in the wrist called the carpal bones. It is the most common carpal bone to fracture among athletes and is often caused by falling onto an outstretched hand.
    Initially treatment of a scaphoid bone fracture would be to apply ice or cold therapy, protect the wrist with bandaging or strapping and seek medical attention.

    Broke my scaphoid, doctor missed it in the xray, came back to working out two weeks later using a splint, came back to full maximum weights and bodyweight exercises using a splint after two months. Seven months later I came back saying it still hurts and something is wrong, then they found out it was broken. A doctor said we should operate because of blood supply blah blah blah, the other said no it looks like it will heal on its own and it's taking forever because I am extremely active with that hand. That entire period I could not do pushing exercising like bench without a splint so the weight gets divided equally on all the wrist bones and particularly away from the scaphoid, and I could not do open hand pushups, meaning I had to do fist pushups. Two years later I could do open hand pushups etc... Now, two years and ten months later, I can almost bench my max without a splint, and I can absolutely do open hand pushups. There is always that feeling that it's going to start hurting and that it's still not fully healed, but I know it's getting better and better by the second.

    Broke mine 6 years ago identified it quickly. Doctor put me in the cast for 6 weeks, didn't heal, then they did the Screw surgery, that didn't work, then they did a bone graft and that seemed to work, but i was "out of action" for about 6 months and then another 4 with wrist braces. I do still get aches and pains and stiffness 6 years later (as im sure i will for the rest of my life). I wouldnt wish this injury on my worst enemy it sucks!!!!

      Mine was snapped that bad. You could see the crack right through it and had the screw operation 3 days later.

      themegaabe just have a lot of patience and the pain killers but dont let them take over because pain killers are evil and addictive. a month to 6 weeks youll feel better but in all honestly took me 6 months to get strengh back in my right wrist

    Good luck, I just broke my left scaphoid. Hopefully it heals faster than my last scaphoid break on my right hand. The last one had to have surgery, and took 9 months before it was ruled healed. Good luck!

      Jacob same situation please let me know how ur wrist right now if the mobility and screw affects you

    • @lax4life287
      @lax4life287 Před 7 lety

      I am all healed up now and I have no pain. However, my mobility is at about 90% and my doctor told me that is probably as good as it'll get. I can feel a little stiffness when i do push ups but no pain. Overall, im good to go. Terrible bone to break and the healing process was seemingly never ending. If you get a removable splint I recommend you always keep it on to ensure the wrist is immobile. Good luck with the recovery I hope the best for you!

      Jacob how long was the recovery process? Been wearing the removal braces in 6months

    • @lax4life287
      @lax4life287 Před 7 lety

      It was about a year total until i could start working out again. However, because mine went undiagnosed for 3 months it prolonged the healing process. If your wrist hasn't had any healing after wearing it for 6 months, I would assume you would need surgery, this was my case.
