    In this video, I'm showing how to program a new transponder chip key for my 2005 Scion tC. It will also work on 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010 models. This programming technique is very quick, easy to follow, and it doesn't require any additional tools or computer software. If this method didn't work for you, or if you lost all of your keys, visit my website for more info:

    Thank you, you saved me $100's. *IMPORTANT NOTE* If the key doesn't program on the first try, try it again. If it still doesn't, step on the brake or open the door to reset. Try again. If it still doesn't program take a short drive. Then let the car sit awhile. Retry the programming. It worked for me. But, not on the first few tries.

    Best video and instructions I have found for programming replacement key for 2005 Scion tC. 2 "key" things to remember: 1) make sure you purchase the key with fob and chip. Costs around $20 for one. If the cost is about half that, you're probably only getting the shell with no guts. 2) There are two separates processes to follow here. First process (whites what the video shows) programs the key, but not the "lock" and "unlock" buttons. Second process which is referenced in the video comments and on the DIY-Time website is what then programs the buttons on the key to lock & unlock the doors.

    @Tsalviejo Před 4 lety +5

    For all of those who followed the instructions but continue to get a blinking light for over 60 sec. Inside the master key there is a small rectangular shaped chip on the left side, that you will have to remove and place into the new key fob set. I used a exacto knife and a small pair of needle nose/wire cutter to remove the chip. Then insert the chip into the new key fob housing in the same place as the master. This chip is necessary for the key to signal to the ignition immobilizer to start the car. I hope this helps. My new key fobs work great.

    • @DIYtimeTRD
      @DIYtimeTRD  Před 4 lety +4

      Sounds like your new key doesn't cone with a chip. Make sure you buy a key with compatible chip and then programming should work and you wont have to reuse your old chip. Cuz if you accidentally damage your old chip with a knife, your car wont start.

      @@DIYtimeTRD I just had to follow the steps twice, and the second time it worked. It's possible the first time I tried it the logo wasn't facing up, which some instructions say you need to do, or maybe it was some other step. Anyway, second time it worked.

    Thanks to this video I was able to program my scion tc 2005. When I got the car it came with a regular key (black one with transporter chip only) After 6 years I learned that I have remote power locks I just bought the transporter chip key on your link. Follow instructions on how to program power lock and transponder chip and and got it right the first time . Now I can open and close my car doors remotely and use that same key to start the engine. THank you DIY-time.

    This worked really well. Saved me $50.00 for me the detail about the marking on the blade was not consistent. Mine did not match the master key and it worked just fine.
    You do have to do the steps a little faster than his video. But it worked perfectly!
    Thank you!

  • @raymondray3232
    @raymondray3232 Před 5 lety +4

    This step is only to program the transporter. There is a different code to program the buttons ( lock, unlock and panic buttons) on the fob key. I don't know it but Ace hardware store charged me 15 dollars to program the buttons and it included the cutting as well.
    I bought the key at amazon for 20 and 15 for set up. Total investment was 35 dollars compared to 345.76 from quote of dealer. 2007 scion tc 2.4L. You don't have to do nothing to the key Ace will program the transponder and use a diagnostic key tool and do everything for 15 dollars.
    Let me know if anyone has any more questions.

    This worked great. The key I received from eBay had no dot but said it was compatible with the dot that my original key had. When it showed up there was a separate chip that had to placed inside the fob. Don’t throw this away! It’s not just a random piece of plastic.

      You probably don't have the immobilizer system then.
      If so, you can just cut the key - it doesnt have a chip. You can check if your key has a chip at your local hardware store. They have machines that can read chip keys.

    Is there a procedure using only a valet key, the only master key was lost. Thanks for your time.

    • @DIYtimeTRD
      @DIYtimeTRD  Před 4 lety

      No, otherwise valets would be doing this to your car secretly and then steal your car later... safety feature.

      The immobilizer chip is inside the plastic. You need to carefully take it out and insert it into new key.

  • @beefybeef87

    When you do this, is it programming the chip inside the key or the car? I want to make sure that I have a spare key just in case I lose it. Will my old master key still work afterwards? Kind regards for your help!

    I lost my original tc keys, but i had a replacement made at walmart. the walmart keys only turn on the car sometimes, not always. how can I fix that? when the keys dont want to turn on the car it makes that rumbling starter sound.

    • @DIYtimeTRD
      @DIYtimeTRD  Před 6 lety

      Does it make a difference if you flip sides when inserting the key? Probably they sold you poor quality key, and it is working intermittently. Buy another good quality key and program it yourself. Good new blank key will cost you around $20-30.
      As long as your key works sometimes, you should be able to make a copy. It may take a few tries, but it should work.

      There is usually maximum of 5 keys that can be programmed to a car. If that was #5, you cannot add more, until you erase old keys from the memory.
