  • This is a thorough demonstration of the Rug Doctor Mighty Pro X3 and the Bissell DeepClean ProHeat 2X (professional pet) going head to head. I discuss the strengths and weaknesses of each machine in thoughtful and fair way. **Update below**
Update to this video description: Before I buy products, I try to do research before making a purchase. When I went to buy a carpet shampooer, I didn't really find many good videos or posts that I found helpful. I ended up learning about floor care from trial and error, myself. This video was me sharing some things I learned about these two products, and to be completely honest, I'm proud of the work I did in this video. I shared a lot of insight that I have not found anywhere else. Furthermore, I tried to show results, from a NON-BIASED perspective. So many times, when I go to find information, the person making the video or post has seemed biased. So, I went out of my way to be fair to both products, in this video. I tried to share the GOOD and the BAD that I've discovered, in both products. I feel that I did a very good job, in this video. I know that, for some people, this video can be considered to be too lengthy, but the purpose was to show a real comparison in the most fair way I could think of. That meant sharing the entire process.
With all of that said, I am very surprised at some of the negativity this video has received. It seems that people who are biased for one brand or the other have taken issue with criticisms that I've levied at their machine of choice. Again, the point of this video was to share my experiences with other people who may have not used these machines and wanted some insight, demonstrations, or opinions. That is who the video is for.
I shared what I thought each machine does well, and what I think each machine has troubles with. To be honest, I still use BOTH machines, to this day, nearly a year later. I use the Bissell for quick cleanups, and I use the Rug Doctor, when I have time to deal with the things that annoy me about it. I have also, since, purchased a Bissell Big Green Machine to use for further comparison, and a video for that is being worked on.
As far as my cleaning technique goes: I do not advise my cleaning technique, shown in the video. That technique is NOT what the manufacturers of these machines advise, so I will not advise it. However, just because I use a different technique than what Bissell or Rug Doctor advise does not mean my video or findings are not valid. People who give the video a negative rating based on the technique I use are not being helpful or fair minded.
As an injured veteran who still wants to keep his house clean, I have developed many techniques for accomplishing tasks that most people would not use. These are techniques that I did not use before my injuries, so I get it... But... I still believe that my comments on these machines are accurate and valid. Down voting the video, for my chosen technique, is a disservice to me and potential viewers who could still benefit from the information shared in this video. The more the video is down voted, the more CZcams assumes the information was not helpful, and the it becomes more likely that the video will not be recommended. Again, I stand by the information I share here, and I spent weeks creating a video to share it.
As a side note: The shoes used in this video are clean. I only wear them when carpet shampooing. They have never been worn in any other context. (I do the same with shoes for other tasks, such as mowing the grass) Also, the water used is as hot as the faucet will get it. I'm not sure if I did something to suggest that I wasn't using hot water, but the water used, here is hot.
Again, I will be doing a new video for the Bissell Big Green Machine, in the near future (this is typed in May of 2016). Hopefully, that video, and this one will be helpful for people who are curious about these products.

Great video...I am not a carpet cleaning professional, rather a homeowner with two small children an a dog. I purchased the Bissell model and it works great. The cleaning challenges I have are primarily pet urine and soft drinks. The Bissell does great on removing both of these type of stains, but I have tried many so called “pet urine removal” products and nothing seems to neutralize the odor. After seeing the box of baking soda in the refrigerator that we use to control food odor, I figured what the heck...try it in the Bissell. Wow - what a difference that made. I shampooed the carpet as usual, then filled the solution tank with a high-concentrate mix of water and baking soda and ran the machine a second time over the areas where the pet urine stains were. I was amazed at the results. There’s no way to completely remove the odor, but this comes close. The interesting thing is that our puppy has not returned to any areas cleaned with the baking soda. Just be sure to dissolve the baking soda in water completely before using in the machine. Science or just dumb luck...you decide. It worked great for me...it might for you too if you encounter pet stains.

I just rented the Bissell ( Was rented from Lowes ..Better machine ) I rented it because I seen a video that showed the Rug Doctor vs Bissell and Bissell cleaned in one pass...Well my kids' apartment carpet was heavily soiled in traffic areas and soiled from having small dogs ( This is brand new carpet that was looking very dirty in some areas and I have to say...I will Never rent a rug Doctor again unless...They step up and become just as good or better than Bissell...The carpet came out fabulous...Super clean....smells good and feels so good to lie on....You just have to see for yourself... ( This is my personal opinion...I'm not getting paid for this ).

About the technique I use to clean carpets, in this video: Some people have pointed out that I do not use the technique that is recommended by Rug Doctor, and that is true. From what I understand, my technique can break the shampooer, as one commenter points out. I do not advise the use of the technique I show, in this video. I never have advised it, and at no point, was this video sold to anyone as a "how to" for cleaning carpets. With that said, I still stand by what I show here, in terms of discussing the pros and cons of each shampooer. That's all this video was ever about. This is one of the few "real" demonstrations that answers a lot of questions that I've seen on here, and I'm proud of this video.
As to why I use the technique shown, in this video: I am a veteran, with injuries. I have had to spend a lot of time learning how to get jobs done to task, despite my injuries. If the task is to have a clean floor, I have to figure out how to have a clean floor. Rug Doctor's recommended technique takes longer, for me, than the technique I use here, so I push the machine forward, while cleaning, instead of "only" pulling it backwards, as Rug Doctor recommends. Pushing the machine forward could possibly cause it to break. I do not recommend pushing it forward. I would not want to see you break your carpet cleaner.
However, for me, the risk of breakage has been something I've been willing to deal with. Getting jobs done quickly and well is important to me. For what it's worth, I've been pushing that Rug Doctor forward for about 4 years, with no problems, but I still do not advise any of you to do it, because I do not want to see any of you break your machines.
With all of this said... My findings are still fair and accurate. I do not think it is fair to give the video a negative rating based on me pushing the machine forward.
To be honest, I fast forward through me cleaning most of the carpet, so people wouldn't have to sit through another (approximately, from what I remember) 30-40 minutes of shampooing. I never billed this video as a "how to" for carpet cleaning. I only made it to share what I've learned and experienced from using both machines. I have a busy household, and my carpets are constantly needing shampooing. I honestly felt that my insight, in this area, could be helpful for others. Hopefully, it's been helpful for most people watching it.

I have a Bissell Revolution pet pro 2X. It seems to clean our carpets better than the two you demonstrated, but that's likely because we spray solution on the push forward, then we pull very slowly backwards with no spray so it can scrub then remove the dirt. Then a second pass with no solution to pull up any remaining moisture. Carpets are dry in about an hour and look brand new.
We use Bissell Professional 2x concentrated with ScotchGuard and the Bissell Antibacterial for the very rare but unavoidable pet stains.

A few hours ago I searched CZcams for power washing wood decks...after reviewing several videos covering that topic, I somehow ended up here. I watched your entire video, read the video description, as well as your comments below. I have not used the Bissell but I do own a Rug Doctor Mighty Pro X3 for the last 5 years: several things you find negative with the RD are COMPLETELY absent from my experiences with the machine.
I'm 58 now, 53 when it was purchased - the first thing I noticed when taking it out of the box was how much the machine DID NOT weigh - it was light! I'd rented RD's from stores and found them very heavy, but NOT the RD MPX3 I'd bought - it weighs noticeably less than my old Hoover upright circa 1985 self propelled bag vacuum.
Regarding the amount water you say isn't brought back into the machine: that is due to your intentionally pushing the unit forward with the sprayer engaged (this is what you choose to do, I know). But to say it's a negative? The vacuum is in the front (as you know) with the water jets more toward the rear - so pushing the RD forward doesn't allow it to suck the water up as it puts the water down. Yes, you will end up with more water in the carpet and less removed water in the waste tank. Yep.
I read you're injured, I understand I'm injured also and look for ways, like you, to do things with less effort and make the best use of my time. When I got the RD MPX3, I had to learn to let the machine do the work...that was difficult for me because I wanted to "scrub" that carpet clean. I found that letting the machine do all the work was difficult for me, following the directions for solution and use, pulling it backwards slowly (1" = 2 seconds), only going over the area twice seemed like it was ineffective; it was not.
I can clean 115-125 sq ft of dirty, stained carpet with one water/solution fill and suck up almost all the water put down, regularly (I have three long haired kitties). I've never experienced difficulty dumping the waste tank as you've described, but I don't doubt what you've described - I've merely not experienced it.
    So those are my thoughts...responses.

He doesn't know humility but knows a lot about pride. I take pride in my work and accomplishments but I never ever had said I am proud. He is simply an individual who hasn't learned humility. Owned my blue mighty pro x3 for 13-14 years now. Cleans wonderfully and I especially like the upholstery attachment for furniture, area rugs, stairs and car cleaning. What a I have learned to do is after cleaning the rug I use just water to rinse it well and then use a Craftsman 16 gal wet/dry vacuum (12 amps 120 v 6.5 hp) to suck up any residual water and then the floor is usually dry in an hour. On very humid summer days I just use a fan overnight. Rug Doctor Pet is the best soap to use for getting out stains and smells but when I am just doing a normal cleaning I use 1/8 cp per tank of ALL Free Clear liquid laundry detergent with Oxi and add 1 tbs of Tyler Candle Company Glamorous High Maintenance to each tank. I've even saved the scented water I sucked out with the wet vacuum and put it in the washing machine to use again for bedding, blankets or pillows. Once you've used the Tyler it's hard to use anything else.

I just did my living room rug with a Bissell machine that I rented from a local building supply store. In my opinion, the Rug Doctor machines I used in the past did a much better job at cleaning my rug than the Bissell machine. Big problem with the Bissell was that it left tracks all up and down my carpet that I mistook for wheel marks matting down the carpet. I was careful to overlap my passes, so I know it was not because I missed the rug in between passes. Unfortunately, the tracks did did not go away after the rug dried because they were in fact tracks of dirty water that appeared to spill out of the side of the machine- missed by the vacuum . The Bissell machine does dispense less liquid, but I don't believe it removed as much dirt as the Rug Doctor. Perhaps if I did my rug twice, the Bissell might have done better. But what's the point? The aipolitics2 review about ease of use is very accurate. But there is a good reason why the Rug Doctor side appeared to "POP" whereas the the Bissell side looked dull.

I always use the rug doctor shampoo in my vax carpet cleaner. I find rug doctor shampoo to be one of the best. But just like washing clothes carpets should be rinsed. This is what pulls the dirty water out the carpet, otherwise this dirty water leaves carpets looking dirty still. It’s the rinse and dry that cleans most of the dirt out. Rinse the carpet with just clean water, then pull the cleaner back very slowly to remove as much moisture as possible this has the same effect as clothes on spin cycle in washing machine. Spin cycle spins out dirty wash water and rinse water

I first had the Bissel. I also had the Little Green Machine by Bissell. I got about two uses from each before they quit spraying. I cleaned them very well after each use. In fact I cleaned them out longer than I used them on the carpet. So I threw out 2 looking like new Bissell machines and bought a Rug Doctor. It is now two years later and the Rug Doctor works like new. Yes, no heater, yes more water but when I flip the switch, it works. All you do is go over the rug and don't hold spray button. PS. I also had to throw out a Bissell vacuum cleaner because the latch broke. Sent the wrong replacement lid with latch. They are also in the landfill.

I didn't want anyone moving into I didn't have clean carpet. The Rug Doctor did an incredible job and lifted every little spot out without any scrubbing or additional products. I'm very impressed with the Rug Doctor. I'm thinking of buying one for my home.

For Bissell shampooers, leave handle in upright locked position and remove the tank and reinsert tank that way. It really helps seat the tank much much easier first time as you can see and feel it properly fit while locked in upright position.

You have to pre treat and yes even manual scrubbing. I use tiny drop of dawn, hydrogen peroxide and baking soda. The baking soda anti-suds. I recommend owning your own machine that you can pull out. I also do a rinse and then I go over it suction only. I make 3 passes. When using enzymes (warm water. See box) u have to spray on, work in and let sit for at least 10 min. I use a pressure pump garden type sprayer for Nature's Eradicator enzymes only or non sudsing or grainy substance.

I have both of these machines too and the Rug Dr. does a better job, in my opinion, but it is a task to use the machine. I just dump it in the toilet with no problem from either machine, except both tanks are fairly heavy. The Bissell is great for quick spills or light cleaning. I don't use the recommended cleaning products either because in my experience I can whip up my own cleaning solution that works much better and is far, far cheaper. I use Shout as a pretreatment, if needed, and I add Fabuloso or Pinalin to get pet stench out. I even use bleach for sanitation and have never had an issue with it discoloring the carpet. Of course, I use the cheap dollar tree bleach since its pretty watered down. Clorox is a much better product but will probably stain or discoloration the carpet so I wouldn't try it unless I had white carpet, lol. Great video, Thanks for all the effort you put into making it. Going to look for your Big Green video. I hear that is a beast!

Suggest backing the the agitator and solution (pressing the red button) just a few times. Between these few passes, you must extract the solution (without pressing the red button). Rug Doctor works on backward passes. You'll extract at least 90 percent of solution with this method and results will be superior. The extracted water will be dark sludge in the recovery tank and carpets will be slightly damp and pile will bounce back and look quite clean. PRO-TIP: As to the cleaning solution, use about 2 tablespoons of Trisodium Phosphate (TSP) available at big box stores. (Yes, it is the chemical banned from laundry detergents, as it's harmful to water supply. But, we're cleaning carpets.) I dissolve powder with near boiling hot water into solution tank. Using hot water kills bacteria, high sodium (salt) will wick (leach) water to top fibers of carpet without chemical residue as it dries. Once dry, a quality vacuum will brush and evacuate crystalized dirt and salt. Results are magical. NOTES: 1) High temperature water kills bacteria, thus killing smell. 2) Alkaline (salt) inhibits regrowth of molds and fungi. 3) Alkaline leaches moisture (and residue) to surface. Once completely dry, grime and residue is encapsulated by and groomed easily with vacuum.
It's a time consuming process, but the results will exceed your expectations. This method is for nylon low pile carpet.

      @AquaTech225 Před 2 lety

Another pro tip. Want to do some extra passes of the brush scrubbing. Without the water or solution. Wire into the unit in the handle on the other side like factory another normally open momentary switch wired to the brush motor only. So you can do extra pass or passes only pulling water out and running the brush without spray

Thanks for the video, I did see that the rug doctor looked way brighter than the bissell side. That to me told me the rug doctor sucked more water out of the carpet. I also noticed on the bissell side there was still a red stain. Didn't know they came out with a blue one. There was only red ones when I used them. Again thanks. By the way, did you get that red stain out? For most tough stains I have always used hot water and Zote (a mexican pink bar of soap) and a hard bristle brush. Great for getting yellowish white shirts back to bright white shirts. (hand wash with hot water scrubbing shirt with zote, rinse, repeat. Then in small bucket soak shirt with very hot water(water level is barely high enough to see shirt float) put the zote in the bucket for about five minutes or until the water is whitish, take the soap out carefully as it will be soft and slippery. Swish the shirt in the soapy water a couple of times to make sure the soapy water gets the shirt evenly saturated. Let it sit overnight. When the sun is out take out the shirt and let the sun dry it. Then put it in the laundry to wash as usual then dry it. And as you fold the laundry you will see how white can be. Lol Believe it or not several years ago I had no car and I had no means to rent a rug doctor let alone take it to my place( by bus no way). So Zote became my best friend. Cleaned my carpets with the pink bar of soap and hot water and a brush on my hands and knees and used towels to pick up the dirty water. Did it in sections at a time and where the most traffic occurred (my front door). It worked. Took a while, towels on the cleaned areas for over a week making sure it was completely dry. The hard part was picking up the dirty water with the towels. I tried my shop vac to get the water, and it tried but I did it quicker with a towel. My knees took a beating and my hands were sore. When all else fails........do it the old fashion way. Lol Lol ...old school works... it was first... :-)

Make sure the bucket is aligned, with the machine, properly. Sometimes it looks lined up, correctly, when it's not, and that can cause problems. As far as returns go, it will depend on how long you've had the machine, and where you bought it from.

I have a Bissell with an on board heating system, separate detergent/cleaner reservoir that has an indicator that that lets you know when cleaner is bing dispensed, a regular carpet clean setting, a high traffic setting, upholstery setting, and a rinse setting. It also has jets on the sides that will dispense cleaner also the the baseboard. Both sides of the Bissell has hot air exhausts that start drying the carpet when it is turn to the rinse setting. I bought it AFTER using a Rug Doctor ONCE! I pretreat my carpet by sprinkling baking soda across the carpet, then I take a brush broom to work it in. I then fill a water bottle up with ½ peroxide and ½ water, and spray over the carpet, making sure to cover all the areas. You do not have to saturate the carpet, but just make sure all areas are damp. I let it sit for about 20 minutes, and then I start using the Bissell to clean the carpet, and I make sure to use the High Traffic setting on any spots, plus I use a 1/2 cup white vinegar to the water. I prefer the Bissell due to the LABOR involved, and the Bissell can be used on upholstery. The Bissell tanks can be taken completely apart to deep cleaned, and easily put back together. Ironically, when we remodeled our house, we put down all wood & tile, so the Bissell only gets used on my upholstered furniture, and keeping our mattress’ stain free.

When you first start, the carpet is still dry, press + hold the button and run the machine back and forward 3 times on the 1st line! make sure you hold the button the whole time. because you just only wet the carpet on the 1st run, you should be able to see the different on the 2nd run, the carpet should be clean after the 3rd run unless there is tough stain. after the 3rd run, release the button and run the machine to suck excess water out as much as possible. do the same thing for the next line.
