For DO5, I think the parents deserve harsher charges. The amount of psychological damage they have done to this kids is irreversible and it's going to affect further development with independency, trust, and the ability to get along with other children and adults in the future. They owe these kids so much more than probation.

DO5 pleaded guilty and are on probation. I'm OK with that. Prison isn't always the answer. They saved the tax payers a trial and up to 10 year of incarceration. The remaining kids haven't been ripped from their parents home and put in a questionable foster care system. Maybe these douches learned a lesson. And if not, then put them in prison.

My ex was abusive. Here it is 27 years later and he still blames me for everything. He thinks our kids have been brainwashed against him by me, even though they were adults before washing their hands of him. Nothing is ever their fault.
Plus, both of them seem pretty dumb. One of them is probably going to break their probation somehow and they are going to go to prison anyways. It's a solid win for all of the kids, as far as I'm concerned.

I'm very happy that Cody and his sister are no longer with them, I do however worry about the other children that remain in their care. Just looking at the content they shared with the world really makes me worry about how much is going on that we are not seeing. Psychological/emotional abuse can be very difficult to investigate because of how easily it can be hidden.
Not so hidden in this case when you're capturing it to film and uploading it to transmit it to thousands of people on youtube.
That said who knows what goes on not on camera.

I never watched their channel, but based on what Phil showed throughout this story, I just have to sigh...those kids were fine--there was a camera pointing at them so they knew they were being messed with (or pranked) and they just played into it. As far as CPS saying they were traumatized...lol ask any kid, they're all traumatized.

And there are countless instances where the kids are begging and pleading not to filmed and to be left alone. The "prank" would usually continue for about another 15mins until the kid breaks down and starts sobbing. Which is usually followed by about 5 min of gaslighting and the child being guilted into apologising. Trust me. Cps knows a Lil bit more about child abuse than you.
In the video where the dad pushed his son into the book case, his son started bleeding and he did not stop the video, continued to film and then blamed the child. If that's not abuse then I don't know what is.
Do I think the Do5 punishment was enough? No. Not at all. The other three kids ought to be taken away from them and the parents should be spending time in prison. Am I glad that something was done and that Cody and Emma are safe for now? 100% yes.

Personally I'm ok with the suspended sentence but think they should have had their other kids taken away for the duration of their probation as well. People like that should not be influencing young minds.

The whole DO5 story just makes me absolutely sick to my stomach. My hands are shaking just writing this because of how upset it makes me. I wish that the other children weren’t left with those two because even if they are on probation it’s not like they’re watched 24/7 right? I sincerely hope those people have changed but the fact that they could do and say those things in the first place makes me doubt it. Especially with their “apology” video where they were just trying to shift the blame on to you of all people. I found Felix's apology video a very mature and genuine response. It sounds like he's really reflected on it and desires to improve. We all make mistakes, but not all of us learn from and desire to change and grow from our mistakes. As for some of the comments I've read on his video, I think people are missing the point when they argue whether or not what he said was "bad" or required an apology. The point is that _Felix_ believes it required an apology, he felt disappointed in himself and felt remorse for his actions. This caused a desire to learn and change for self-improvement. People who complain about the situation being an overreaction or saying he doesn't need to apologize are dismissing what Felix actually says in the video and therefore not really supporting him and who he desires to be/become.
I agree with you, and on top of that, he didn't start with any blame or try and play the victim like I've seen many other youtubers do when apologizing in order to gain money off those videos. His was short and precise and overall honest and he's willing to take full responsibility for something he admits he should have learned not to do by this point. I can't speak for all black people, but this apology is hopefully a step forward for him and I'm looking forward to seeing the change in him that comes of it.

For an apology/response video, it was refreshingly honest and to the point, without any of the overly emotional blubbering we see on youtube that often come across as "poor me" (like what you mentioned about playing the victim we too often see not only on youtube but in today's society). While Felix mentioned the situation was bad for those who look up to him, I think his response video was a great example to people for expressing honest remorse and taking responsibility.
I really like what you've highlighted here. An apolagy from anyone is pointless if they're doing it because they feel they have to. Felix himself felt the slur was out of HIS character to say, so HE wanted to apolagize. And that's what makes it all the more genuine. So it's not about him whether or not he had to apolagize, it's about the fact that he wanted to, the word didn't personally sit right with him.
The DO5 logic of "that DeFranco guy" being the reason the legal action was taken is essentially the bad guys in Scooby Doo saying "I would've gotten away with it, if it weren't for you meddling kids."

As the current foster parent it's hard to imagine what these kids have gone through. I've been a foster parent for the past 3 years of open up my house to Children such as these. I have helped raise some kids that have been neglected and some that been sexually abused and each one is different but the trauma is still there and they will have to face challenges rest of their life. I will say for the two younger kids to be away from everybody it's probably the best thing that could happen to them for the rest of their lives. Gives him a chance to grow up be in a household that loves them and cares for them and provides them with that overwhelming support that children need. For the parents they need to be locked up in jail stripped of their parental rights no children should have to endure such trauma as these kids have and it's sickening to see parents that get away with this.
THANK you for doing whatever you did to help bring light to that disgusting, sad, situation. I feel so bad for those kids... Especially the ones left in the home... and because of the selfish greed, and clear parental abuse, those poor kids have to be separated from their other siblings, etc... So sad...

I know this and the prior video on the family "pranking" their children is an old video but I've just seen it and am so proud of you for bringing it to the attention of people who could do something about it. The sad thing is that when a child suffers this type of abuse that person usually goes on to abuse their children. It's a hard, learned way of interacting that is hard to break. I was physically and mentally abused as a child and never abused my children but there were times I could have had I not had time to learn a better way of living.
That clip of the kid being told to slap his sister is still the most heartbreaking for me.. I do kinda wish the punishment for the parents was a little harsher but I am glad that this story blew up so much that everybody will remember their faces as the parents that did what they did.

I hope that Heather and Mike Martin don't move. Also if they do move I hope officials in every state know who they are now so they could follow through on what they were charged with.
If they are on probation, leaving the state without the government knowing would be an easy trip to prison.
Mike and Heather are on supervised probation for 5-years which means they can't leave the state and like I say early Mike will screw up his probation before 5-years is over
I don't know about other states, but I work at a court house, and here if you are on formal probation and you move to a different state or county, they have to get permission and transfer their probation to the new county and are assigned a probation officer in their new location.
The Martins SHOULD HAVE gotten a harder sentence, but I'm very happy that at least Cody and Emma are safe from their abuse.
They should have gotten the death penalty with immediate effect and no appeals just a summary conviction and a bullet to the temple.

TYT are completely biased but they're honest and clear about it. They never pretend to be anything other than leftists. Phil is also biased in his own way (which is fine, all media types are) but he's also obvious about making sure the audience knows what's his opinion/part of the story. Buzzfeed is cancer though.

I honestly believe that they didn't really intend on taking him there in the first place. My Mother used to do that shit to me...she would buy something, show me the item and if I got in trouble (Which was literally all of the time, 90% of the time it was my little Sister) She would give it away or take it back to the store. It's incredibly hard for a child to see something they really really want, they work their ass off for it and then have the ordeal drag out (this crap feels like FOREVER to a kid) and ultimately be denied. This was a FAMILY VACATION. Not a toy that he could "earn" or would have had the chance to get at Christmas. No wonder he felt like he wasn't really accepted by his own family. They didn't care enough about him to include him in what was to be a family bonding event.

Thank you for using your position to get those kids help and bring some light to something people may not have known was going on otherwise. I was abused all throughout my childhood and I am a parent as well and stuff like that just really hits home. cant stand the thought of kids going through something like that but glad that its all over and they can have a decent childhood. The only thing a child should ever receive from their parents is love.
So proud of you concerning the DO5 situation & conversation. You are quite the hero in this story! I do wish they would've received more punishment or showed any public remorse for their horrid actions... But I think this will do for now. We are all greatly thankful to 'That Defranco Guy' for all he did to really get this story out there so that these precious babies got the attention & care they dreadfully needed. Without him the story could have just gone away & the kids involved may have been stuck in their situation far longer or forever; with the way the system in place works (DHR/CPS operates differently according to state/location- the state I am from happens to be a place that I know doesn't work from personal experiences I've had reporting serious child abuse/neglect I've actually witnessed) so because of 'That Defranco Guy', a truly hopeless situation for several innocent children has been incredibly affected- for the better! Honestly, I am so glad that the DO5 parents are actually being punished for what they did to their kids - and even more glad that the kids are safe now and are shielded from contact with them. It is good to see that justice does get served, when often enough bad people manage to get out of being held accountible for what they did.

Hi! I have never made a comment until this do5 craziness. I am glad I am a month late because just watching the clips you had made me sick to my stomach!! As a victim of very serious long term (25+yrs) trauma and abuse of every kind first i was simply horrified CZcams allows ABUSE to be posted in the name of fun. Second, the other three children are also very much victims and should also be removed from their custody permenately. I can't help butto say God bless you Mr Defranco for literally saving Cody and Emma!!! Where were you when I was getting abused?? I am sorry this is so long but I have to just say one last thing : clearly do5 has not taken full responsibility of his actions by blaming the hero and rescuer and also because he actually had the audacity to repost the videos!!!! As a Frederick County Resident, its awesome to see you covering a story that hits so close to home for me. I'm so glad the kids were taken from those two monsters, but I do still wish their punishment had been at least a little bit harsher. The damage and trauma they caused those kids is going to be life long. I just hope their life is better now that they are back with their mother.
Hey man, I'm new to the channel as I just got word about what was going on with the Do5. Glad to see that something got done at least. You're right -- those two kids really did take the brunt of it, and I feel especially bad for the boy of the two. It's a tough situation but at least the authorities did something about it for the time being.

Deckerlink I like it because probation rules are extremely strict so they'll probably be too scared to ever be not-nice to a kid ever again. if there were a full trial ultimately the kids would have to testify in court and stuff like that which can be extremely scary. True it's not direct punishment, but it's very strong prevention and a very scary/strict second chance.
also also the other kids would probably be put into foster care if they went to prison and the American foster care system is horrible, definitely worse than living with a family that will probably be too afraid to do any form abuse again for at least 5 years

As a parent, seeing the way those children were treated... What they put those poor kids through for a couple bucks from youtube is just... They should have lost custody of their children, ALL OF THEM! PERMANENTLY! To those who think I'm over reacting, imagine how you would feel if those were your children being treated like that. I also see this from the point of view of someone who has experienced such treatment. Blamed and punished for something I didn't do. Mocked and picked on for the entertainment of others. I am an adult with my own family now but I still struggle with the effects of the treatment I received as a child. I pray they recover from it better then I did but it is something they will NEVER forget.
The DO5 parents received much more punishment than most perpetrators of more severe child abuse do. I think justice was at least served better than it is in many cases.
Well, the DO5 situation is different, there is a lot of proof of it on the internet. Thank god they were stupid enough to upload, or they'd probably be getting away with it up until the kid's were adults.
I was just thinking that. I work in the court system (albeit Canada) and I have yet to see such a hefty sentence. I'm pleased. And from my experience, even the shortest terms of probation get breached, so we might be away with them sooner than we think

As someone who works in foster care and has seen what neglect and emotional and mental abuse can do to kids I want to thank you and the other youtubers who reported this and helped in the investigation. I wasn't aware of these videos until today but I would've reported it immediately and I'm appalled more people didn't earlier on. I only saw the slap "game" video and was immediately and absolutely horrified. You are a good man and I'm glad I've been one of your viewers for all these years. Keep being awesome. ✌

It makes my stomach turn anytime I see those clips from the Daddy O' Five. How the actual heck could you not see that your own son is hurting and developing a hatred for life and his own parents because of your constant "jokes" at his expense. As someone who has worked around a lot of kids, ranging from Sunday School to a day care, it makes me want to both punch the guy and throw up at the level of neglect and emotional torture. Glad they are free from that environment.

I think that Defranco guy did a great job highlighting the abuse and helping the children ultimately. I think many people may have wanted a harsher sentence but hell I'm happy they got sentenced at all with how screwy the justice system can be.

I sincerely hope the two parents learn from this ordeal, and I'm glad two of five children are safe. We can only hope that a watchful eye is kept on the family and if there are any indications that the abuse is continuing they are dealt with accordingly. Got to have faith in the system! Pretty glad with the outcome overall. I hope the kids are too!!
The birth mother said she didn't have custody because she has a mental disorder and the judge had a bias right? And her kids get abused by a bunch of child beating hicks as a result. This whole story should be a great case study in fighting the stigma on mental health.
As a black person myself, I'm not totally pressed Pewdiepie said the N word. It's EXTREMELY disappointing especially as he's a person with a large following, but whatever, he apologized, be it sincerely or a way to make sure he can still be monetizable. I'm not going to waste my time pressed because some swedish dude said the n word. White people say it all the time behind closed doors, or aggressively in front of other black people's faces as a way to intimidate and put down. As a black American, (for me at least) I've been desensitized.
What IS bothersome to me, is the amount of his non-black fans saying they forgive him, and telling other black people, who might not be so ready to forgive him, that they should. It's so outrageous to me. If someone ran over your foot on purpose with a car because they were angry in front of a crowd of others, and then later they apologized, it'd be ridiculous for the crowd of people to say they forgave him and then tell you, the person injured to get over their injury. it's YOUR injury, and it affected you, not them. They can be upset that the person hurt someone else, but it's still not them who was completely hurt.Thats how I see this situation. It wasn't non-black people he was offending, it those who are directly affected by the word and history ie black folks. To try and say that black people shouldn't be offended or should be obligated to forgive him just because he made an apology) is complete bogus. It says more about his fanbase than it does of pewdiepie.
im white, disabled and lgbtq and I don't forgive him. But for the good of the world, I hope that he makes an effort to improve himself. If he does, then he will be more worthy of forgiving.

I don't know what the laws, regulations, or protocols are for the state Do5 resides in, but the end goal for child protective services is to keep families united or to reunite them with care and supervision, sometimes to the detriment of the children. Having said that, I think this determination was a fair one because ultimately it was never about punishing the wrongs of a family that didn't have the sense to know better, but rather to remove the children from that environment into a safer one. As a former social worker I can say with absolute sincerity, the ruling came out this way thanks to the exposure by Defranco and other Internet vigilantes who informed the public and the authorities. I wish all child protective cases were as easy as this one was. So many kids never get out.

Completely surprising!! I've tried watching one of his gaming vids and he just screams the whole time. His voice is annoying as hell and I can't imagine anyone would want to actually watch him play games. My guess is a small number of those people are actually fans. The rest are subscribed just to see if he ever does post any abuse again.
I wholeheartedly thank you for taking a part of getting the Martins under investigation. I love that you (and others) downloaded all the videos and helped the police during the investigation. Bad parents are everywhere, and it is the society's job to help out kids suffering from such individuals. It isn't always easy to do the right thing, but you and several others did it. So once again; Thank you!
Unfortunately, I'm not a big believer in people changing their ways. I think the O5's will play their cards right until they no longer have to. The fact their first instinct is to point the finger shows they have no remorse for what they've done. I'm also glad that someone stepped in and helped get those kids some help.
