FTC Disclosure: I was not sponsored for this video. Some links are affiliate. All opinions are my own.
I love how you explained why you cover up. It's so hard to explain to people. You put it perfectly
Just from my own personal experience, not everyone has a waterfall of milk, even at the beginning. I never knew the feeling of getting soaked from milk and never needed any pads to stop the leaks. Also, never got anything into the haakaa. I'm telling you this to let you know that it's still possible to breastfeed for 14 months even if you don't experience those first days or months as she described. My daughter still grew really well with just breastmilk for the first 4,5 months, even though my boobs were never feeling "full".
Yes! 100% agree. I rarely leak, never get anything into a haakaa, never feel a heavy letdown. My baby is gaining weight and doing just fine.
I agree
I totally agree. My milk didn't come in the was it does for a lot of other women - like, the quick engorgement and such. It was more of a gradual increase, and I was really worried my milk wouldn't come in, but my midwife assured me it would be fine, and it totally was.
I'm glad to read this. I was just looking this up. With my son day 2-3 I leaked but other than that I have never leaked and my daughter is huge so she must be getting enough. I wondered if something was wrong with me that I don't leak.
@@OceanMomma13 yeah, I think this is quite common actually, or more common than one would think. 😊 It's just not talked about enough. ❤️ The only mesure of weather or not your baby gets enough milk is do they grow 500 g/ month and do they soak 5 diapers a day and poo once a day. 😊 These are the recommendations for breastfeeding in my homecountry (Finland) but I reckon those guidelines don't change that much when it comes to this in other coutries either. You can of course check with your pediatrician or careprovider, just in case. 😊
hey sarah, love this video~ just a correction- if your milk ducts are clogged and usually its painful thats just called a clogged duct NOT mastitis. mastitis is a whole other beast which is INFECTED breast/milk ducts, it comes with flu like symptoms. i just had that last week, fevers, chills, migraines etc so bad i didnt even realise my breast hurt so bad a few days after. and this time i didnt even feel a clogged duct- just red and very painful to the touch skin. needed antibitotics for it.
Mastitis truly is a beast, thanks for making the distinction! I got mastitis in both breastfeeding journeys and I too didn’t even notice I was feverish or had a clogged duct until my husband felt me and said I had a massive fever, that was a couple days after feeling so terrible and not really knowing why. That was just the first time around and then the second time luckily I had that prior experience to be able to tell early on what was wrong.
Every time I get a clogged duct, I end up with a fever, muscle pain, dizziness, and very painful breast. It take a few days before my breast doesn't look red/purple.
Totally agree about mastitis! I did however notice I had a fever and I tried to stand up to get Tylenol and collapsed and my husband had to put ice packs on my chest and back and make me eat an ice pop after an hour of medication not working and I almost had to be admitted to the hospital. I had mastitis 3 times with my first and each time it was the infection that caused a clogged duct not the other way round like some doctors explain. I am going to attempt breastfeeding with my second and I’m terrified of mastitis again but now I know the signs to look out for!
Agree! Going through it right now😢
Even with mastitis her tips works
The baby fever is INTENSE. Molly is so precious
Just would like to say that breastfeeding is such a blessing. I have breastfed all 3 of my babies but my milk never came in like what your talking about. I was never engorged, never leaked and had low milk supply and no supplements or anything could bring it up. Despite that I successfully combo fed all 3 babies currently have made it to 6 months with my 3rd. So if your a new mom with supply issues just know there are options out there for you to combo feed if you really desire to nurse your baby and it's ok if your experience doesn't measure up to all the things and advice you see on CZcams.
Supply lines, are amazing
Absolutely, I never had enough for my babies despite all the herbs and pumping and otherwise being healthy. It’s actually always been a very emotional thing for me. But I breastfed all my 4 babies for almost 2 years with supplementing with donated breastmilk or formula. There are many options out there. But still possible if it’s what’s you desire. Wanted to share because when I had my first, I never knew some women didn’t make enough. None of the books I read or anything ever even mentioned that. Good to know it does happen for some women.
Yay! This is so helpful, Sarah. I just eat up your informational videos. I watch them over and over. You always make exceptional content. Thanks for working so dang hard for us. We love you guys!
I’m years away from having kids but found this SOOO interesting and helpful already! I love learning about all the mom stuff before getting there. Thanks for being so open! 💕
Sarah!! This is amazing! Thank you for putting all of this so concisely in one video; as someone preparing for pregnancy within hopefully the next year, the information on breastfeeding can be overwhelming for someone with no experience! I've been hoping a video like this would come my way, so thank you!! ❤
I’m 18 weeks with my first baby. I looove researching and gathering all the info I can for baby prep! This video was so informative, thank you!
Sarah, I am 8 months pregnant and I've been enjoying all of your baby related videos. Thank you for making and sharing these 😊
I cannot tell you HOW helpful this video is!!! As a first-time mama and long time follower of your channel, I trust and value your advice so much! Especially as a fellow believer and fan of holistic living. Seriously, THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! Blessings to you and your beautiful family!
I’m an aspiring mother in the next 5 years or so if I’m blessed with a child. So nice to have this information in such a positive and honest nature. Thank you❤️
I needed your video 6 years ago when I had my son 😅 I was not told any of this about breast feeding post partum - nothing. Your descriptions are informative and also comforting. Such a cool thing your doing sharing your experiences and tips. All the new mamas and returning mamas can sure appreciate this ❤️
I feel like you were reading my mind! I'm 35 weeks with my first and am starting to get panicky about breastfeeding, and just cannot find many resources online that go into every detail. This was perfect and will be a video I refer to again and again. Thank you so much for creating it and sharing your experience!
I love that you encouraged on demand feeding!! I tried the schedule thing for like 2 days with my first and we were all in tears. When baby wants snuggles and food; baby should get snuggles and food. I would have ten more kids just so I could always be breastfeeding, I love it so much. I’m so happy you do too and that you and Molly are doing so great!
Yes! Thank you very much! I'm so glad that you made that video!
I was one of the subscribers that requested it ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️😅😍
I'm 33 weeks pregnant and I plan to TRY breastfeeding. I hope it will work but I don't want to put to much pressure on myself in case it doesn't work! ❤️
Also I love how you mention that not everyone can and you mention mental health 😘
Love from France 🇫🇷
The after meal stretching is so adorable, thank you for sharing Sarah
Thank you Sarah for being so transparent. Keep up the great work that you provide.
I am a first time mom, due in 2 weeks. So excited! & I am so glad to find a straightforward, honest & easy to understand video on breastfeeding/pumping and how to. Thank you, Sarah! 🥰
Okay, from a midwife student I have to say you're right Sarah. Many women struggle with these topics and you're informing them right. Also, the "milk supply" thing is kind of a myth. You don't need to increase your milk supply. Your baby can't have that much milk. When your baby is a month old their stomach is the size of an egg, it is like 70ml. That's why calostro is made, cause your baby has a berry size stomach until 3 days old. Your milk supply is fine. You just have to increase your oxytocin levels and pump or breastfeed. That's it, your body is so magical that makes everything for your baby
The latch is correct tho. Baby should be mouth wide open, nose and chin stick to the boob and neck straight. Shouldn't be hurting, if it hurts baby it's not latching properly
It could be helpful for mammas who won't be there to breastfeed their baby the entire time but still want to feed them breastmilk (work, travel, dates, etc)
Haakaa tip: the flange is meant for you to flip down, squeeze the reservoir, bring to breast, flip the flange back up, and release. That way you get more suction and shouldn’t need to readjust
Thank you thank you! I'm pregnant with my 3rd baby and I feel like I still haven't figured out nursing. I was able to nurse my other two until 5 months each, I'm hoping longer with this baby! Glad I saw this
I never planned to have children, and probably will never breastfeed, but I’m just watching because I love your videos!
This was honestly so informative, it taught me more about a female body. 😊
Never say Never!
@@raven91777_I_AM True, then I’ll be a master of motherhood by learning from Sarah haha
Thank you so much for making this video. Im 28 weeks pregnant with my first and I really appreciate all the advice I can get. Also, side note, all the adorable baby noises in this video make me really happy. Molly is precious. 💕
Never been so early for a video ❤️❤️❤️!! So excited to hear these tips thank you 🥰
Also, thank you for saying it’s okay to formula feed your baby! I tried so hard to breastfeed with my son and I was devastated when he wouldn’t latch and I was always engorged. I did save some and fed it through a bottle but I never got the chance to breastfeed for more than a week. Love you sarah, you make me feel like enough 👍🏼
This was THE best breastfeeding video I've seen! I'm having my first baby in December and have only ever heard bits and pieces of how to breastfeed/treat mastitis. This was so informative and I know I'll be coming back to it again and again. Thank you for this!
I thing I've only seen once online, is with the Haakaa, the flange (the part that connects to your breast), you can actually push the silicone down, allowing the easier access to the opening where your nipple lies to create a stronger suction. Pull the flange "walls" back, exposing the opening, squeeze the Haakaa and attach to nipple to create the suction, release and put the "wall" of the flange back up around your breast. This works well for women of differing breast sizes/shapes to create stronger suction.
I was going to suggest this too! I have 5 weeks till my first little one arrives so I haven’t tried it yet but that’s how my older sister explained to me how to use the Haakkaa 👍🏻
Yes!! I do this and it works for my larger breasts. Also stops it from falling off halfway through!
Thank you for posting this Sarah!! 28 weeks and getting super nervous about breastfeeding....this has helped that anxiety tremendously 🥰
I’m watching this while breastfeeding my first baby, she’s 3 weeks old today. There’s definitely a lot to learn!!
That’s a really helpful video! In March I got my first little baby boy💕 for the first two months I nursed him. It was a really hard journey for us. He only gained slowly on weight. Since then I’m exclusively pumping. I would’ve never thought about exclusively pumping but here I am about to hit my 6 months breastfeeding goal and not planing on stopping anytime soon☺️
I adore you. I’m 2 weeks away from my due date and I’ve watched all of your momma videos. As a Canadian I also appreciate being able to get everything you offer!! Thank you for everything you share Sarah :) hugs!
Love this video. The most complete and best described video to prepare for this process! Thanks for the clear descriptions and demonstrations
Thanks for this helpful 101 Sarah! I didn’t know most of these tips and even though I’m not a momma and likely won’t be for years, it’s so wonderful to have your videos as a resource when the time comes :)
I’m due with my 2nd child late January and I really appreciated this video! Didn’t get to breastfeed for more than a couple weeks with my first and hoping these tips will help with a successful journey this time around.
Thank you 🙏🏽 🙏🏽
Hi Sarah, love your videos!
As a Doula I would also like to add a few things :
1. It is not recommended to pump for the first 6 weeks as your breasmilk takes 6 weeks to stabilize. Pumping before then increases your chances of mastitis and blocked ducts.
2. There is no such thing as “not enough milk” the chances of that is extremely rare. There are a couple of things that affect breasmilk supply (latch, stress, fore-milk hind-milk imbalance and if the receptors that are not stimulated adequately in the first 3 week. Also if you had a breast reduction that affected the breast tissue, that can possibly affect a moms breastfeeding journey.
3. Mastitis needs to be treated with antibiotics. Latest research suggests that if you have a blocked duct that massaging can actually make it worse because the massaging can decrease the circulation which makes breast more swollen increases inflammation and makes the milk harder to flow throw. Cabbages and cold compressors works better. There is also a difference between mastitis and blocked ducts. Untreated blocked ducts can lead to mastitis.
4. Nothing you eat or drink (unless you drink or eat things with fenugreek / espiride in) increases your milk supply. Not oats, or meat or anything. Fenugreek can actually cause gas and espiride is a anti-psychotic medication with a lot of side-effects. LLL (La Leche League) suggest and and advises mothers to power pump and find a quality pump to increase milk supply. Your body can become dependent on any medication to increase milk supply. A healthy nutrition diet is also essential. It's all about supply and demand.
If there are mammas reading my comments, if you struggle with breastfeeding please consult a lactation consultant. There can be so much misinformation and its important to get the correct information.
Almost 15 weeks with our first & this was SO helpful! Thank you for sharing all your wisdom!
I'm not pregnant, but I'm so thankful that I'll have these videos to look at for advice and help once I am! Thank you so much for making these videos❤❤
Thanks for sharing your experiences, Sarah. We have very similar breastfeeding stories. I’m due April 2022 and getting all reinvested in this information since my last pregnancy was six years ago. Thank you again for taking the time to post all this helpful information.
Bonus hint, I used to get mastitis so bad, fevers, fainting, red sore boob, and was on antibiotics every second week then my midwife told me with another child to try vitamin c, lots of it, well it cleared the mastitis up way faster (within hours!) and I didn't get relapses. It's been my go to for every baby since. 😊
22 Weeks now with my first baby, our little girl will be here in Jan. 2022 💝👶🏻 I plan to breastfeed as well 🙌🏼 Thank you for making this video ☺️💕
I'm a year into breastfeeding #2. Just remember you're not alone and you can reach out to other mamas when you need help. And remember you're an incredible mama already!
Congratulations😁❤ hope everything goes great for you
I also am 22 weeks (2nd baby)! Congratulations and wishing you a favorable/ healthy delivery! ✨
I'm 23 weeks with my first right now too 🥰 congrats 🎉🎊🎉🎊
Congrats! I’m having a January girl too! Jan 29th
Thank you so much for this information! I’m currently 31 weeks with my first and I love how easy to understand and straightforward this video is 💕🤰🏼
I'm crying watching this video. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
This is the information I so desperately needed with my first baby, and due to lack of support and consistent information, plus a very colicky baby - our breastfeeding journey only lasted about 2 weeks. I then pumped, and combo fed our daughter for 5 months, before switching to only formula.
I'm now pregnant with my second, and want to try breastfeeding again. Your video has come at the perfect time, and offered me so much encouragement. Thank you💓 You have made this Momma feel so hopeful, and excited for the road ahead!
This is great Sarah! I am learning to become a lactation consultant because of your earlier sentiment. Which is that I wish I knew this information with my first baby! The only thing I would like to add is with the cabbage leaves for mastitis be careful not to do it for extended periods because it can reduce milk supply!! It is recommended if this is used and you still wish to breastfeed that you only do it for a day and only 3x in 24 hours! But moist heat and epsom salt is fantastic! Love this video! Thank you Sarah!💕🥰
I’m pregnant with my 4th baby and I’ve breastfed my others 6 months, 2 months and a year. Definitely loved this video.
Thank you for mentioning the no routine. I’m a FTM and I was planning on having a strict routine but your informative and respectful response made me question my decision. I may still do so but this definitely makes me feel better if it doesn’t work out :)
This was by far the most helpful breastfeeding video I've seen! I'm due with our first baby in December and this helped me feel a bit more prepared and less scared. It's a bit overwhelming!
One of your best videos in my opinion, really useful and so good to get practical advice from an experienced but still young mum. Would love to see more baby care videos for new mums - so helpful! 🥰
I am so glad you are posting videos like that, I feel so much more prepared when the time comes🤍
I’m only half way through the video but have to say you’re giving so many golden nuggets of information! I have a 16 month old and still breastfeed a bit but our journey was full of struggles. I ended up taking domperidone for a year to combat low supply and I put a lot of pressure on myself to exclusively breastfeed. Special thank you for the disclaimer at the beginning, every journey to feed a babe is unique, should be supported and honoured 👌🏻
Domperidone is the bomb! Has the FDA approved it in the US yet? I had to get it from Australia where it's legal and widely prescribed - my midwife gave me the online pharmacy link, lol. It's used all over Europe too. I only had to take it for a week or two and it solved everything.
It was definitely the only thing that helped my supply substantially so I’m thankful for it. I live in Canada and it seems widely prescribed here.
@@cr293737 Can I have that pharmacy link?
Thank you , thank you, THANK YOU!!! I am due with my first in January and this video will be so helpful. Definitely plan on watching it over again throughout my pregnancy/breastfeeding journey.
Please do not take this as a guide for breastfeeding...
Not yet a mama, but I still surprisingly enjoy this content, I feel like I'm saving up knowledge for the future! Thank you!
So so helpful! Thank you! I’m due any day with my second babe and the schedule thing with my first did not work and was probably why I had so much postpartum anxiety and why I needed to supplement. Praying this time goes more smoothly. 🙏💖😘
I so appreciate your content and tone on this topic ❤️ Thank you.
Loved this!! I’m 15wks pregnant, still nursing my 17 month old.. we will wean in the next month or so and I’m already looking forward to nursing this new baby! It’s such an amazing experience! You’re doing great mama! Thank you for these tips and reminders!
Sarah, I’m a labor and delivery nurse and i absolutely LOVE this video. So informational and spot on!!! ❤️
A lot of good information here, but some of it is definitely not spot on.
You are so positive and helpful and the world is a much better place with you and your family in it! ❤❤❤
I second that! 😊
Sarah! This video was so amazing. I am so grateful for you and your channel! I’m on the journey right now trying to get pregnant, we just started trying. Your mama videos are my go to! So thank you :)
I love, love, love this!!! I am currently breastfeeding my third baby and oh you have shared some amazing tips for helping me with my milk supply and I love it! Thank you for sharing ❤️
I am forever thankful that I found you since my first month of pregnancy. Sharing real experiences help me a lot mentally and spiritually. I am in my 3rd pregnancy. The breastfeeding journey was almost okay for my 1st baby until I couldn't feed her any longer because I was pregnant for my 2nd. I set a high hope to fully breastfeed my 2nd because I felt guilty for not fully breastfeed my 1st for at least a year. Unlucky for me, I thought I was prepared but nope. My supply dropped constantly until I knew that my 2nd wasn't getting enough milk. Unwillingly, I fed my 2nd with formula. At the same time, I still hold on to the fact that I wanted to continue the breastfeeding journey so I kept pumping and did everything I know to increase my milk supply but nothing works and I started to have anxiety and depression. Hence, I stopped. Again, I have high hope for 3rd. I hope we will have a good experience on the journey together. Thank you Sarah for sharing your experience. May God blesses you and your family.
dang that was amazing and comprehensive! Totally didn't expect the part where you actually showed how to breastfeed. Thank you! Saved this for future reference!
I absolutely love that you included your baby in this video! Her little rooting and grunts are so sweet 💕 can’t wait for my little one to arrive!
Thanks Sarah Therèse for giving us moms great advices 😊
I have breastfed all 3 of my kiddos for a year and have been lucky to donate hundreds of pounds of milk to NICU babies. I’d say most everything in this video is spot on and very helpful. Stress can drastically effect milk supply, get help anywhere you can with life’s other duties and enjoy this baby and mama time. Goes by way too quickly! ❤️ ❤️
I can't thank you enough for doing this video. First time expecting mama here and literally freaked out when thinking about breastfeeding. Hugs from London!
I love feeding on demand. Thank you for this video. I’m currently 4 days postpartum with my third baby and you have some really great reminders here. 💖 I never could get into pumping, but I love how God made our bodies to provide for our babies!! 💞💞 I breastfed my first for 20 months and my second for 30 months. I’m so thankful for the extended breastfeeding support I received from friends and an online FB group. 🤱 Keep up the great work!
please keep that video up, I'll be needing it once I've given birth to remember in moments, where I might be stressed and not sure what to do. So many good tipps, already taking notes
My first baby is due in May and this video is by far the best I’ve watched! Thank you for sharing
Amazing how right now I'm going through some problems with breastfeeding and you come up with this video.. soooo thankful ❤️
Amazing! Can't wait to get pregnant and watch all your videos and listen to all your tips! Thank you!!! You are a true blessing! ❤️
Fantastic info for anyone that needs it, glad to see you looking so well , is it just me or does anyone else think molly has grown so much already xx
Okay I have seen so many of these videos before and this is the best one ever!!! Currently on month 4 of breastfeeding my second baby after not being able to with my first and it’s such a beautiful experience
that was sooo helpfull. i also totally cried while you demonstratet breatsfeeding molly cause i‘m cleary getting way to emotional and excited to have this baby haha
Love this video ❤️ currently on my second pregnancy, still first trimester.
breastfed my first until she was 3 years old 🥰 was such a long stretch but she let it go randomly one day when she was ready.
the hand pump definitely was the best and the nursing pillow ❤️ so happy Ive found your youtube. now with my second pregnancy its been 6 years since my first so there is ALOT i forgot
This is so helpful! I’m giving birth in November and have been looking for resources. Thanks Sarah!
Sara ❤️
As a first time mom, I can’t say thank you enough for your videos. I really appreciate it ! Hope you have a wonderful day
I wanted so very much to breastfeed my baby, but due to excessive blood loss at delivery my pituitary gland (critical for hormone regulation such as for breastfeeding) lost blood pressure and it meant my milk never came in. I wish I knew this was a thing, because I was just in tears at not being able to breastfeed and struggled for three months trying with not understanding why it wasn’t working until a doctor at a breastfeeding clinic told me. Just wanted to post this for anyone else struggling.
Thank you Sarah I enjoyed watching this though I am about to end my breastfeeding journey in a month or so. My baby girl is a year and 3 months now.
Thank God I could do it cus my milk dried up when my first baby was only 30 days and I had postpartum depression due to feeling guilty and sorry for my boy.
May God bless all the mamas out there ❤️.
THANK YOU, SARAH! Due in a few weeks and this was so helpful and practical!!!!!!
All of this is phenomenal 👏🏼 I’m breastfeeding my 3 month old and as a FTM it’s been a rocky journey so far. She took a hot minute to learn how to latch. But man, the biggest thing that I’ve learned is to go with my baby’s flow and follow her cues. She’s doing so much better now and learning how to handle my extremely fast letdowns 😬 my poor girl has to chuuuug when I’m really full!
Ps. MASTITIS SUCKS. I’ve had it twice now on the same side and GIRL. It’s like the flu without the flu. So thankful I didn’t have to take antibiotics!
I'm pregnant for the first time and so new to these things, thank you sooo much for making this video and for making is so comprehensive
Priceless info! Thank you, Sarah Therese!😍
Having my 4th babe in 33 days! 4th C section and I am so thankful for this video as a refresh!! Thanks!
Thank you for all you tips. They have helped me soo much. I used th combs in hospital and managed a natural delivery.
This is so strange! I was JUST thinking maybe yesterday, that I wished you would talk all about your breastfeeding journey. Thank you so much!
Oh my .. finally something like this exists. I'm 18 and far from becoming a mom but I'm still watching and taking notes from this. Sarah is amazing and I aspire to be as amazing moma as her one day. ❤ I like to be prepared for like everything in my life as much as I can so these types of videos are the best for my future.
Sweetie you are glowinggggg! This video and the last one, I was in awe of how you look right now❤️
Fantastic video! Honestly wish I had this information 8 years ago with my first child. Pregnant with my second baby so this is very much what I needed to see. Thanks 👍
I need to watch this again when I’m pregnant with my second! I HATE, and I mean HATE breastfeeding. Like, I would go through labour 1000 times over breastfeeding just one kid! It’s by far the hardest thing to do. Literally NO ONE tells you about how difficult it is, let alone hints and tips on how to survive it. So thank you for this video, can’t wait to watch it again xx
Sarah, you’re awesome. I loved this video. You have a lot of good advice. It will help
A lot of people. I loved the tip about nursing on both sides for supply increase. I get lazy and don’t do that much. Nursed my first for 15 mo. And second for 2 years. 3rd baby us 5 1/2 months and going strong. Breastfeeding is THE BEST.
I love how you cover so many topics on your channel!!!
Love and totally agree with everything you said!! Especially about on demand feeding❤️ I exclusively breastfed my son for 14 months and he has always been a tank lol (born 10 lb at 38 weeks) so let’s just say he needed tons of milk from the start😂 and I am currently breastfeeding my 1 month old and so far it’s going great! Thankfully I have been blessed with a great milk supply but it does take some work to keep it up long term and I’m happy to pass along the tips I’ve picked up over time to my first time mama friends! Love to see encouraging and helpful videos like this😊
I nursed my daughter for 18 months, 100% agree with everything you said!
Thank you so much for this! I made it about three months with my first and am really hoping to go a little longer this time 🤞🏼
I'm so glad I watched this video, thank you Sarah 🙏💫 currently 22 weeks pregnant and have no idea about breastfeeding! I at least feel now like I've learned some great tips 🥰
